agree. poe allows for too much freedom in trade and item exchange.

i think we will be surprised in poe2 cause ggg will likely tackle the problem which "trade friction" didn't solve at all.

personally, i'm weird in this regard and very rarely trade for items cause it feels like cheating, probably because more than half my gaming life consisted of offline rpgs.
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!
That's a point that requires addressing, honestly.

Any time a Trade Dispute thread pops up, you inevitably get a least a few smug-snake SSF people saying "If y'all just played SSF none of this would be a problem, haww haaw lookit-how-superior-I-am." The underlying assertion seems to be that anyone who didn't find all the items for their build themselves off their own-ass ground is somehow inferior, or that Path of Exile is a worse game for being trade-centric rather than loot-centric.

Counterpoint: Path of Exile has hundreds of active skills and thopusands of build-defining/altering unique items, and introduces more with every patch. Solo self-found, no-trade game modes do not get to engage with ANY of that content. You get the skillgems, sure, but the long and the short of it is that solo self-found do not get to make 'builds'.

They get to use whatever garbage-tier loot pops up on the ground for them to progress one of the same three or four "SSF Viable" builds every single SSF player always uses because you CANNOT rely on unique items AT ALL in SSF, you CANNOT rely on obscure or hard-to-find rare item modifiers in SSF. You can barely rely on getting your freaking resistances capped in SSF.

If you play Path of Exile not for The Pure ARPG Experience of killing monsters and taking their shit, but for the ability to tinker with the game's absolutely unprecedented, unmatched and unmatchable breadth of customization and buildcraft? SSF is pure poison, because it turns off the absolute entirety of all of that customization and buildcraft and forces you to caveman through the game on a "build" you've played seventeen times before because it's the only god damned thing that works with the sort of piss-poor gear you can find in SSF.

And no, "making loot better" does not fix this, because of the whole "thousands of unique items" thing. if yopu want to make a cool build based around, say...Cospri's Malice as an easy build-defining example? If you're in SSF, well too fuckin' bad because Cospri's Malice is an extremely rare drop you could play Path of Exile for ten whole-ass years and never once see. You can want to play a cool Cospri's Malice build all you like, but SSF says you're not allowed to.

Sol Self-Found/"Make Loot Better" works in a game like Diablows Moure where you have a dozen skills tops and two, maybe two and a half builds for any given character and itemization has no impact whatsoever beyond making numbers go up. In a game like that where creativity is as dead as the gods and there's no such thing as a proper build, yes - finding your make-numbers-go-up items yourself is probably the better call.

In a game like Path of Exile, trade is a requirement because it's the only way the average player gets to experience any[p/i] of the breadth of content the game has to offer. That said, it's extremely difficult to manage for reasons I've already been over. Grinding Gear really is caught in the middle of a delicate spiderweb of rocks and hard places here - trade is the only way their game works the way it's designed/intended to work, but trade is also a toxin that could destroy their game in literally minutes if they aren't extremely careful about its application and constraints. People who think it's just so easy to make free effortless painless awesome(!!!) trade that makes everything better just have not thought any of this through at all.

"they don't want trading to be enjoyable"™

Chris stated that the value of an item is higher when the effort of obtaining it is higher...So in small words this means that the more w/ you send on trade the more satisfied you will be that you wasted 20 minutes of your time to buy a leveling item that you will change in about 2 hours of gameplay.

I am not saying he is wrong in his logic , I am just saying it's about time GGG realizes how stupid it is, I mean for some people it might be true, but those people will probably never farm uber bosses at the speed of 5000 divines per hour so it is actually disruptive for the rest of the players that actually play the game...

What's the point of being satisfied that I w/ 5000 people for 800 alteration vs 30 chaos, if after that I will get tunnel carpian syndrom from w/ another 5000 people cuz I wasted 800 alteration and got literally nothing (which aggravated the situation into me leading to carpian tunnel syndrome).

It's literally just an old idea kept from D2 just to annoy people because in the past the concept of AH was not really a thing and people still found a way to trade in game, remember "O IST N SOJ"...

Also what's the deal, console get's an AH but PC doesn't...really why (hopefully it's not some bull programming limitation like Blizzard did with players near you load all their stash tabs into your client, cuz why the hell not) ?

In a mostly single player game like POE , AH will actually attract new players...cuz it's easier...And I am sure they can implement something like you can only index AH items if you have a trade tab...Give every new account a trade tab as part of the core game and now you have people who play the game buy more tabs cuz they want to trade more and new players actually enjoy the game and not have to use some bull algorithm to sell items cuz they don't have a trade tab...

The logic behind this is that if a new player doesn't enjoy the experience they will never invest in more to become better, while the rest of the players just have a bad time even if they invested in the game.

Just make an AH already, and if a player has 15 trading tabs they index in the ah whatever is in the trading tabs , this is inceptive to buy more tabs and bring the cash flow while not making the game more p2enjoy by giving every account 1 of the already 4 tabs, a trade tab...Why exactly would it hurt your cash flow if everyone actually enjoys what they are doing, they might even invest more to enjoy more of the content faster...The scope of the game remains the same while the investment will grow...

Blizzard is already a master at getting cash flow, because they get what they want at start because everyone wants to try the game and after that they just incentive the purchase further...wonder why GGG philosophy is to just make you suffer before you actually enjoy the game enough to give them money.

Not making an Auction House it's pure hypocrisy, ggg is using/allowing a clunky home made community system and telling us NO AUCTION HOUSE NEED.
This cause ggg don't care about player quality of time, this is the reason i quitted poe.
Another example? Chaos sell recipe.
You have to spend hours combining crap items to sell, totally disrespectful
If they don't want us to trade through an "auction house", why not make the game drops "binds on pick up" then? Having to alt-tab out of the game to trade is soooo backward, and its not as if its not possible to program, the chinese version of POE had an auction house for several years now!

POE1 or POE2, not having a way to trade IN-GAME is just moronic now (excluding trade within the same group, of course).

Why are people asking questions they know the answer to?

They want us to trade. They just don't want it to be too easy and straightforward. They want there to be an opportunity cost to trading. They have explained their view countless of times. You can disagree (God knows I do with some of it), but it's not like their view on the matter is unknown.
Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.
What you are asking is NPC that sells any item you wish for. Thats the kind of AH you want.

Well they could *at the very least* program the "official POE trade site" into the game! Its the alt-tabbing sh*t in 2023 that just does not cut it anymore, imo. Doesn't take a university diploma to integrate that.

I don't understand how people still don't realize after all these years you'll just be playing a stock exchange simulator if an ARPG has a fully functional auction house. You won't play the game at all, it'll be faster to play the auction house
