Why is there no auction house in POE?

Many people here take such a very rigid stance, one day there may be an auction house, or auction lot where you can sling your wares, but for now we have the system we have.

The level of personalizing this argument, insulting people, and strawman arguments are exhausting.

You, shags, all of you have agreed at various times that there is no fun in trading. You may not hate it as much as others, but its annoying, cumbersome, clunky, unimmersive, frustrating. Or, like uniqueheart, you have no clue what you are talking about because you dont even engage in the mechanic you are fighting against. You have zero experience.

Characterizing players as being selfish or lazy because they are frustrated by a mechanic that the devs have stated they intentionally made work poorly and in a frustrating manner is ridiculous.

Ill grant you that there are sincere people who prefer no AH based on previous games, but the people who constantly troll these threads are just that, trolling.

I suck at this game, i mean really suck.
I can kill a few things, but in almost 2 years ive never defeated an elder or something or even some elder guards (whatever they are called)
This league im getting up there in the red maps finally, but only because playing Minions is making it easy.

Why do i suck so much?? I dont have a clue about crafting, corrupting, vaaling, double thingymajingy.. Yeah… i know…

Those are the things to really get you into endgame though.
I just usually go and create a new char. Try out a new build. And quit the league because gearing new chars is a pain.

I hate the trading in this game, i mean with a passion, so i stay well clear of it. An AH would be a welcome thing for me, as a none elite player. I think GGG is missing the boat on this by miles. Trading is already possible, why not make it accessable for everyone in a player friendly way. Also would weed out the scammers.

An AH would offer me:
A foot into endgame.
More characters, more builds.
Trying out my own builds, instead of cookiecutter builds.
(im working on a elemental hit build without any help from guids, but without the prospect of having him geared for maps it feels like a waste of time.)
Id feel less "forced" to play the game, specifically my main char, because getting things done takes a buttload of gametime.

I keep having hopes they implement an AH by POE2, but unless the "bigger" gamers ask for it, it wont happen. And those are the ones that dont need or see any benfits to an AH. So… Ill keep dreaming i guess.

The bottom line: Trade NEEDS to be limited. And I can guarantee you, no matter HOW GGG decides to limit trade, it will be annoying to A LOT of people, because they wont have access to what they want, when they want it.

What we have now, is trade limits through "people". People having to react, people having to be online, people willing to answer. Frustrating? Maybe. Stupid? Perhaps. Perfect? Far from. But it DOES achieve what it tries to do: limiting trade.

If you - or anyone - can design a system, that limits trade enough, without being frustrating to NO ONE, go for it. I'm sure it can be done. Somehow. Even though no developer has ever managed to do so in the history of ARPG hack'n slash games.

I do engage in the mechanic. I trade a lot. Every league. So you are directly wrong here. But I take trade for what it is: A tool. A tool to help you, not gove you everything.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

His visions? He never intended for trade to be as easy as it is now. Their idea was forum trading. What we have now, is a compromise. And yes, PoE is designed with trading in mind - but for one main reason: To give items value. Is it designed to buy everything you want all the time? Hardly. Yet, people will call everything "bad" the moment they're unable to get what they want, when they want it.

You realize the part you quoted was stated as my own biased opinion correct? You do realize we have forum based trading through pathofexile.com/trade? That their site and api just run it automatically? And yes, it is designed to be able to buy "everything and anything you want" that is an item, that's why everything is tradeable and chris said as much himself in the Manifesto. And very few, if any, people call everything "bad" on the forums here, but people do have legitimate criticisms about this game.
We just need a player vendor that we can put slot in our hideout. Give it a normal inventory slot amount and let us put stuff for sale and if anyone buys something it goes to our currency stash or some sort of "vendor safe".

This would eliminate all the current market manipulators thus removing useless accounts being logged in. I'd imagine we would also get better server performance with less bots loaded in as well.

Only, the API was never meant to be public. It was a compromise. So it seems you interpretations of his views are... Wrong.

What I mean by "forum" trade, is that all posting, searches and offers were being made on the forums, in posts/threads - as we did back in the days. The "release" of the API, was - as said - a compromise.

I think you're misunderstanding for the sake of misunderstanding here.

Yes, every item is tradable. Every item CAN be traded. That does, by no means, mean that everything should be available for you - all the time. THAT'S the key in a trading system. It NEEDS to be limited. Are the current system limiting trade? Yes. Is it good? No. Can it be done better? Yes. But "better" is in this case very subjective. Trade is and should be a tool. It should make the "game better", not "trade easier".

An AH is not the answer.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
I think most players are in agreement that an AH would not be good for PoE. That would definitely be the "too easy" trade function that GGG will never allow into PoE. But keeping trade unchanged forever isn't the answer either. Some form of in-game searching needs to be incorporated so that we aren't having to {Alt}Tab out to a browser to do item searches is definitely needed. Then (because the search is in-game), we can just press 1 button to whisper the WTB and not have to do the copy/paste bullshit. That I should think GGG would/should agree is not "too easy".

However my ideal is still (and forever) some form of an instant message app on my smart phone so we can sell from outside the game. To buy we still would need to log into the game to send the WTB. Being able to reduce the number of whispers that go unanswered is not making trading "too easy".
"You've got to grind, grind, grind at that grindstone..."
Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

I think you have limited knowledge on "instance" or "client and server" structure. You are not wrong by that meaning but not right at same time.

It's like a network of power grids. we can have a failure in a power grid but that doesn't cause the whole network shutting down. because physically, the network often has more than double capacity than the average max load. And utilizes the capacity by logical networking. (we even have other adjacent networks through the gates.)

It makes a network almost immune to the overload "logically" (you are wrong at this point.) we got dozens of little to large failure here and there (you are right at this point) all year round but the average uptime doesn't go below 95% in most cases (largely depends on the local network infrastructure, machines and maintenance.) they simply put restrictions or rolling blackouts to a limited area before something serious happening thus we don't even realize.

Edit: If it was causing much more than I explained, I guess it alerts the local network company rather than the datacenter or simply the gold miner would break up for the network loads or power/machine costs.
Everything I do should be wrong so please correct me if I do it right <3
