Tempest Shield
The maximum "% increased effect of Buffs on you" you can get is 24%.
4 * 1.24 = 4.96. So it won't do anything with Tempest Shield.
Tempest Shield(TS) does way too little damage to warrant the 25% mana reserved. Sure, the 4% block is nice but as many people have pointed out, its not enough.
It seems to turn your shield into dex/int spike shield which reflects physical damage but here it does lightning damage. I think GGG idea here was to make TS the magical variant as the damage on spike shields and TS seems to scale in line. However, spike shields reflect damage on hit and on block but TS only works on block which makes TS a lot weaker. This skill needs a rework. An idea: X% to chance to shock on Block. Quality increases chance to shock or increase duration of shock or both. Shock duration should be scaled something like how freeze mine is scaled.
"that rounds up btw... edit: ok but it should have... thats a bit odd due to historical effects. Last edited by soul4hdwn on Nov 11, 2013, 12:56:08 AM

I have those '+24% effects of Buffs on you', still only gaining 4% Block Chance though, meaning i doubt it's rounded up :)

its still counts as spell right?
so cruse on hit wouldnt work too bad
Curse on Hit works with Spells.

I agree this skill needs some reworking. Personally I feel that the 4% chance to block isn't much considering the cost to just use it. The damage is ok, considering some builds that I have read/seen. Overally, I think having the block chance scale as you level the gem would be helpful. Keep the 4% but have it increase like how purity's max resistance use to do. So starting out, it's 4% but by level 20, it would be 6%. I also feel the mana reserve cost 25% is a bit much for what little it does. So many dropping this down to a 20% while adding the above said suggestion would help it out.
Just my 2 cents. | |
Hi
I agree the 4% chance to block is to low for 25% it would be better perhaps if tempest shield could be acquired at a lower lvl with 2% block and lit dam and by lvl 20 its 6% so a 1% every 5 lvls. But the real issue with tempest shield now: Is it worth the 25% whilst I try to maintain at least 1 aura at 60%(of course add reduced mana and its probably closer to 37%)? cheers Conan: Crush your enemies. I'm a bit confused how the amount of mana reservation is calculated... i've tried something and linked Tempest Shield with Lightning Penetration, Elemental Proliferation and Added Lightning Damage to shock a pack of mobs while blocking (in combination with Static Blows). Suddenly the amount of Mana reservation is 74%. I can imagine that this is intended (??) but it's quite confusing because the support gems have a mana COST multiplier and Tempest Shield has no mana costs only mana reservation. If you, for example, support an aura with Increased Area of Effect the amount of mana reservation stays the same.
Additional question: give a quality gem of "Reduced Mana" the bonus for Tempest Shield? I know it don't work for auras. |
|
Support Gems have a Mana Multiplier, not a Cost Multiplier.
Linking Increased AoE to an Aura will increase the Reserve. Conc will too, but it only nerfs your Aura so it's a bit pointless. Quality on Reduced Mana is Reduced Mana Cost. Tempest Shield does not have a Mana Cost -> it doesn't apply. Last edited by Vipermagi on Nov 25, 2013, 9:45:21 AM
