Content Update 0.5.0 — Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients

Let me summarize the biggest problems with party play. It's not simply about 6 people getting 6 times the loot — it's a series of issues:

1.Party play provides drop rate bonuses. Many RMTers buy 6 accounts, with 5 of them being bot scripts. This turns into a situation where one person gets the rewards of six people.

2.The Gravebind Unique Gloves were a huge problem. You could see many "ring king" players stacking their rarity to 500, then using that 500 rarity to obtain the rewards of 6 people. This resulted in 6-player parties dropping 10 to 20 times more loot than solo players. (This has now been fixed.)

3.In the endgame, having 6 people in the same party actually made the difficulty much lower. Various auras could be stacked without restraint — these buffs multiplied rather than added, easily turning 10 million damage into 100 million. (This has now been fixed.)

4.When entering a high-cost map, things like tablets and map entries cost currency, but a single map allowed 6 people to play. The other 5 players paid zero cost.

5.When all these advantages come together, the destructive impact is enormous, easily breaking the game's economy.

It really baffles me that after all this time there are 120 pages of people who think that nerfing one thing is going to make them better off.

Q: "Why put ridiculous items like Gravebind and Tangletongue and those gloves that inverted your slow curses into speed curses in the game?!? GGG is in a nefarious plot with streamers of some sort!"

A: "No, you're missing the point. Every broken item turns into 1,000,000 free clicks on youtube for the game, when people go looking for builds that use those items."

============

Q: "Why nerf those items later?!? That is bad for the game because XYZ"

A: "No, you're missing the point. Everyone then has to go back to youtube and look for a new build. 1,000,000 more free clicks"

============

Q: "Nerfing xyz thing that streamers or botters do will make me more competitive!"

A: "No, it will not. There is nothing that can be done to make you better off than someone else, in a game of skill + time. A casual / low skill player will always be worse off"

============

Q: "GGG cares about what I, personally, think"

A: "See all of the 'no' above"
wp 0% blood mage in league great work (no)

But twist not fix xd nice logic " we not fix broken build , we fix bloodmage for game "

Ah yes, the classic GGG move.

Buff totems so they are playable again.

Watch people get hyped that totems are playable again.

Decide to nerf totems at the last minute to make them unplayable.

For those who do not understand the meaning of this, spells even as a self cast only have 2 ways of scaling. You either scale HP or you scale mana with archmage.

For totems, scaling health is tricky to get to a point where its playable and if we're talking at the lower end of investment, virtually impossible. Archamge is the only possible way to scale spell totems so what happens when you make the cost of placing totems impossible because unlikely spells you are paying a bajillion more mana to place a totem that has much less damage that a single spell cast which is also much more mana viable? That's right, it's unplayable.

So GGG went back to make totems unable to be played by either having no damage or by not being able to place down totems as a result of mana costs on top of removing the only defense layer that you can scale when what you scale for damage is also mana.

Fantastic move. I guess all spell totem players either have to move to attack totems which at least have ways of scaling that isn't archmage or they just won't play because they actually wanted to play with spells for once.
"The heavens burned
The stars cried out
And under the ashes of infinity
Hope, scarred and bleeding breathed it's last."
Still waiting on that Twisters nerf, since you decided to brick Spell Totems before the patch even hits.
PoE2 is a great tutorial for PoE1.
