i would even go as far as to remove crit and crit damage from the game.

I don't want to remove crit entirely. Heck, its a staple in D&D and other ARPGs, and its a staple here. The best thing GGG could do is significantly reduce crit %, like 10-15% max.

In D&D, rolling nat 20 is 5% crit chance.

Better option would be change how crit damage is calculated in the overall damage formula. Right now if we only include:
- base damage
- skill% damage
- increased damage
- critical damage

we get these following formulas:

No critical hit
DMG = base x skill% x (1 + increased)

Critical hit
DMG = base x skill% x (1 + increased) x (1 + criticaldmg)

What if critical was calculated as additive for increased, instead of its own multiplier on the formula. Meaning that if you have lets say 120% increased damage from passive tree for example and then you critically hit with 150% increased critical damage (total 250%, because base critical damage bonus is 100%), the final results would be as below:

No critical
DMG = base x skill% x (1 + 1.20) = base x skill% x 2.2

Critical hit with current formula
DMG = base x skill% x (1 + 1.20) x (1 + 2.50) = base x skill% x 7.7

Critical hit with added increased formula
DMG = base x skill% x (1 + 1.20 + 2.50) = base x skill% x 4.7

This way the cap between crits and non-crits would be closer to eachother and you could still aim for 100% critical hit chance builds that are reliant on critical hitting.

Remove critical rom Aura skills.
The sad truth for GGG is, they won’t be able to meet 2 polar opposite sides of their communities and make both happy enough. I still remember poe1 beta and how amazing it felt back then, no maps, more reasonable builds, manageable monster density. When you were afraid yet excited to get to that top of the spire at difficulty 3, as a pinnacle of the content. No blasting thru, game felt very grounded. Then it turned somewhere I have no interest to be and ive tried to like it, but couldn’t. POE1 sadly failed to me in every possible way. POE2 in a lot of ways reminds me of what poe1 was early, and I sincerely hope this time it turns to a very different path. I like how it plays act 1-3, and I want whole game to feel like that. I don’t need that «build come online I can now screen blast and one shot», it’s a cancer of what turned me away from poe1, and if people like it, they can have it there. All cast on gems should change to provide variety of non damaging effects instead. Game should move away from 1 button gameplay, im completely fine for combat to change to smth like generator-spender-generator-spender combinations, sure we may not need to turn every white mob to a boss, but it does not mean 1 shotting screen of them. Power of high aoe has to be toned down drastically. Elites should not just be mobs with mods, they need to make things more interesting, they need actual unique abilities, not to level of bosses, but at least some. And it all would not work with current mob spike damage system, it has to move to attrition, sooner the better… less work to do.

Why not follow D&D philosophy for calculating critical hit damage as it's very simple? When you score a critical hit in D&D, you roll double number of dice for the attack’s damage. If your attack normally deals 1d8 damage, you roll 2d8.

Jonathan, please stick to your vision for PoE2, and consider retiring Cast on Critical for Content Patch 0.5 as it's antithetical to tactical, meaningful combat.

CoC isn't going anywhere. My guess is they will change it to make it less spammy and more strategically bursty for certain skills so that you can't just turn the game into a walking simulator.

Who am I to say anything, I don't respect my time either.

I really hope Jonathan is not reading this forum as it would take hours of his time. It would definitely be antithetical to meaningful game development.
