[Feedback] Time to Retire "Cast on Critical" in Patch 0.5
|
I don't think it needs removed, but the amount of energy you gain and self propagation near infinite loops should definitely be addressed. Comet specifically should have the extra second cast time line removed and that second added to the base cast time.
The polar opposite of this would be something like Spell Totems. Needing charges makes them a pain in the ass to cast, if you have decent damage you've likely cleared the immediate area before you can even summon one, and they don't share your infusions so they're casting weaker versions of most spells, and doesn't count as you casting so any spells from the totems don't build up your trigger spells. Then there's CoC/CoEA which are fully automatic, use your infusions, cast far faster, and can feed off one another with the CoEA fire triggering CoC and vice-versa. With high crit and elemental overflow you can build something where you cast once and then blink around and your trigger spells keep going on their own. The two things need to meet somewhere in the middle, they're both broken in opposite directions, like they were designed by completely different teams. The visual spam from all the casting is also annoying as hell. I had an Invoker loaded up with trigger/meta spells and dropped them all to just use Reap so I could actually see what's going on instead of the constant sparkle glitter fest. "Meaningful combat" in ARPG, nice joke.

Frankly I never understood why players and developers spend so much time and resources regarding class/build/skill balance. In an MMORPG (POE is not one), balance is critical for the future and health of the game. In the rest of genres, it's not. You don't like something, don't use it.
You can make pretty much any half decent build and ascendancy comfortably clear all of current content. Yeah, some are gonna be better or faster or easier at it. So what? You are not missing literally anything or having less fun by not playing the most meta build. |

In Dreamcore's recent YT video, he is calling for nerfs to Cast on Critical for Patch 0.5.
I agree with him and link is below. https://youtu.be/DutArt_zjtY?si=07FfOatCenj2aKUn Last edited by CharlesJT#7681 on May 6, 2026, 10:25:56 AM

Entirely untrue !
Dreamcore is not "calling" for a nerf. He is predicting a nerf. It 's really not the same thing. Dreamcore said the following : Now, I'm not really sure how GGG will go about addressing crit and trigger setups in general. I just know that they're going to have to deal with it at some point. Whether 0.5 is going to come with a large balance shakeup or not is anyone's guess, but presumably there will be some balance in this patch, and I'd imagine that caston crit will be near the top of the list for things that need to be solved going forward. It 's not a call but a prediction made on a really accurate analysis as usual and point the endgame balance of PoE2 in general. And if the accuracy and relevance of Dreamcore's analyses could infuse this thread, my readings would only get better. :-) |

" This is the only argument that should be needed, together with the current daily player maximum of 8,653. If this doesn't yet ring a bell for you, imagine POE 2 where 100% of players are playing a certain gem, and would the player count of that POE 2 be more or less than 8,653. Most certainly it would be less. Why? Because not everyone wants to play that certain gem. Everyone who would not want to play that gem, would not play. If this doesn't yet ring a bell, google image search "survivor bias" and try to figure out where the airplane armor should be put. |

I've seen a YT vid from Dreamcore where he predicts 3 upcominng nerfs and buffs for the next season. Those predicts really sound reasonable and I had the same in my mind. The current CoC is one of those nerfs ofc (kinda obvious^^)

I'll never understand why so many of you are so fascinated with watching whatever some idiot says online to get you to keep clicking and paying them with views.

" This is an underlying and fundamental issue at play. ARPGS traditionally devolve into mindless and repeatable farming. People will obviously try to make that as efficient and painless as possible. POE is complicated enough to push like 9/10 of players to just copy popular guides to build their characters. If CoC gets nerfed to the ground, then the 37% will pick and play the next 1 button screen clearing cookie cutter build. You d need to fundamentally change the game to avoid this. Also, poe is not an MMO, there is no hardcore pve, there is no pvp like in LOL. A broken build in a pvp game would be extremely harmful for said game. In poe, it's not ideal, but at the end of the day it doesn't really hurt your fun. You can play the most off-meta build and still efficiently clear and farm 100% of current content. |
