[Feedback] Giga-Nerf Gem Levels on Gear in Patch 0.4.0
" Lol.....so you are ACTUALLY claiming that the popularity of D2 is entirely reliant on +skills, and THAT is the reason D3 and D4 are as bad as they are? By that logic, why aren't all the D2 clones that DO offer +skills not as popular as even D3 or D4? Man you really are a huge fan of over-simplifications aren't you? You do realize that when you make statements like that....they don't land right? And they show an EXTREME lack of analytical data, proof, or evidence of anything. " Not entirely, but it's an extremely and one the most important aspect of Diablo 2. Every single time you remove something from the canon, you make POE2 worse. I don't care how it lands where you stand from, even if it's subjective. To me, it's undeniable that +Skill is one of the pillar mechanic D2 had to offer. Removing it from POE2 would be a grave mistake and would make the game worse. For someone that has tens of thousands of hours in D2, It is incredible you cannot recognize that. I bet you love Starwars 8 and that you think that not only it's not a good movie, but the best starwars that was ever made. Last edited by Oinkaments#6390 on Oct 25, 2025, 6:52:52 PM

" How absurd....I'm not sure what else to say here... But hey we got somewhere here! "Even if its subjective. To me, its undeniable that +skill is one of the pillar mechanics D2 had to offer" Yes....precisely. Subjective. To you. No real analysis or thought beyond....your feeling. You got intense enjoyment from +skills. Fine. I have no argument nor thoughts for or against that. But that is unhelpful and irrelevant. In case you didn't realize it, this game (nor PoE 1) ISN'T Diablo 2. D2 is also 25 years old. Perfection certainly wasn't achieved in D2. Certain good ideas got their START in D2....but much of it would have CHANGED even through the original developers, if they were left in charge of sequels. For all the points you have made about D2....you keenly fail to even mention that D2 is a MUCH smaller game than PoE: in every aspect in which +skills would play a role. Item variety. Mod variety. Item power. Mod Power. Skill Power. Skill differences. Content differences. Availability on gear. Crafting options. You name it. Nor do you even ATTEMPT to understand what these differences mean, because you believe that anything that goes against D2 is automatically failure. D2 is the PERFECT game and nothing could possibly be better. NO issues existed in the D2 formula. Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on Oct 25, 2025, 7:01:48 PM

" Subjective or not, D2 was successful for reasons. Liking something is always subjective even if the vast majority likes the same thing. I would love to see a polls on that, in asking which mechanics are the pillars of D2. +Skill would be on the top. Let's ask AI: GOOGLE: ![]() ChatGPT: ![]() They are indeed vital and one of the pillar of D2. They are not the only reason why D2 was a success, but they are pretty much up there. Deleting this mod from POE2 would make the game worse. Yes you need resistance and other important mods, but you can't argue that +Skills is not one, if not, the most important aspect of that game unless you are trolling. " I completely agree with you. I don't want +Skills to be removed entirely, but rather significantly toned down. I like +Skills on gear, it's just waaay overdone. Last edited by CharlesJT#7681 on Oct 26, 2025, 12:00:03 PM

Comparing D2 and PoE2 +skills is like comparimg apples with oranges. In PoE2 we have much more ways to increase weight of every skill level. Like whole passive tree for example which is nonexistent in D2. I don't know exact math but in my opinion +1 skill level in PoE2 equals to at least +5 skill levels in D2.

I just gonna say this. Plusses on items came from D&D and nethack. We need to go back to Ascii and text!!

" Oh its way more than +1 = +5 in terms of function.....but yes that's precisely the point lol. Especially considering PoE has level breakpoints all over the place that D2 doesn't have. With few exceptions, +skills in D2 is amazingly simple: a small overall increase in damage and in some cases accuracy. And that small amount is like 5% per level, if even that. Meanwhile a +1 in PoE, coupled with support gems and weapon damage and passive tree stats, could translate to like 15% or more power along with certain times reaching a "new" sub-stat level of power, or multiple sub-stats of power. Also, typed in the SAME question that other guy did into AI and it spit out almost word for word some of the things he has said in his posts.... But then you look at the actual CONTENT of the AI summary, and its total nonsense completely non-descriptive of function or gameplay in D2. As predicted. Which made me laugh again. Things like (and I'll summarize) "+skills is essential to D2 because: made character level less relevant. made hybrid builds possible. acted with synergies. transformed builds. encouraged endless repetition".......none of which is remotely true of +skills mods. I even tried variations of the question and it kept spitting out the same ridiculous nonsense rationale. And AGAIN......none of that is relevant to how they function in Path of Exile. But I also have to point out that, in the span of like 4 posts, you have COMPLETELY walked back your initial point to basically AGREE with what I said from the very beginning.....that +skills is important and a strong mod, but its NOT the "single most powerful mod" nor the "single most valuable part of D2 design". Even the AI didn't defend this and it was posted anyway. Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on Oct 26, 2025, 12:51:15 PM

Agree with OP: + levels are mandatory on all items that have them, and no mandatory stats should exist, as they make all items without them trash.
-> GGG should remove them on items and balance gems so that their damage is as much as it would be with max levels on items. This makes balancing the game also much more easier, as it narrows the gap between early & late season in terms of items. Last edited by Legioona#1076 on Oct 26, 2025, 2:08:36 PM
