[Feedback] Giga-Nerf Gem Levels on Gear in Patch 0.4.0

+1, they need to be toned back / reigned in.
Let the people posting crap AI summaries of D2 cry. |

I would go further. Two handed weapons can maybe get +2 levels to all. Everything else +1 level max. It's just getting too ridiculous. All the other stats are becoming noise compared to +levels.

Case example from today - I spent a million on gamba sceptres today, going for that +4 minion sceptre.
Did not get it, sold all sceptres back except a one with +3 levels & 2 with high spirit - those I stashed. If the game didn't have + levels, many more of the sceptres would've been potentially worth slamming, now I only slammed the +3, and nothing else. |

Imagine all weapons with no Gear levels. It would be awesome to see most of them worth it a fortune. Right now some modifiers determine their quality such as MS in boots. Boots with no 35% MS are worthless even if they have other excellent modifiers. Same also happens to weapons. Weapons with no max gear level are junk....

" Yes, boots are a good example of the same issue. The speed should be implicit per boot levels. |
|
" Also, a great idea to validate how big issue this is: GGG can datamine the market prices for each modifier. If there are huge disrepancies (as there are), these should be ironed out. |
|
" At the very least, hope GGG tones them down in Patch 0.4.0. I would be shocked if they didn't touch them at all next patch. Last edited by CharlesJT#7681 on Oct 28, 2025, 3:15:54 PM

The only thing I don't like about the + gem levels on gear is that it's opportunity cost is not usually commensurate.
That is, if you don't have +gem levels on your weapon or wand/staff, the item is basically bricked because it can no way offer you a commensurate amount of utility. That said, it seems fairly easy to roll on staves/wands, and there are perfect essences of sorcery for when you don't want to "waste" good prefixes - it's not difficult to get a decent caster item with the affix. For melee, a lot of the skills that benefit the most from +gem level are shield skills, which means you don't need a mandatory prefix AND suffix on your weapon to do damage. If you get both good weapon prefixes as well as + to melee skill levels on your weapon and gloves and amulet, first, you better be going blood magic with some intense regen/leech, second - certain hard-hitting skills will just be WAY better to use to the point where even if you find a weapon with 50% more DPS you still do less damage with your skill because it doesn't have +gem levels as a suffix. My feedback here is that +gem level carries too much weight in terms of scaling some of the mace, crossbow, and bow skills. It seems okay for casters because of the essence but it simultaneously also feels like a crutch. |

+1. Leave only gear levels in Crossbows. Crossbow skills are even with +7 levels in weapon very very weak compared to other weapons...

Right now across multiple gear slots, and multiple builds, the number one affix priority is exactly the same. This is boring. It's also bad for the economy and re-playability.
Skill level is worse than move speed in this respect because it applies to multiple gear slots and there is nothing on the passive tree that increases damage nearly as much. If they don't want to decrease +skills then they need to buff other affixes so that, on average, a player would have a hard time choosing between two of the same tier. They could also massively increase build synergy with suffix modifiers to make gearing choices more interesting. |
