Be honest: Is PoE 1 "dead?"
It's nearing 'maintenance' mode, if not already there. It's sorta like Diablo III status, both in terms of gameplay and state of development.
Minuscule number changes are gonna be the bulk of future updates. Game will still be around for people who want to press only one button to clear an entire screen while going at the speed of light and dropping 10 mirrors per map. PoE1 Dead
PoE2 Dead on Arrival PoEM ??????? |

OP initially when i saw your title i was thinking lol not another one of those lame "POE2 is bad, but now poe1 is dead" sort of posts.
but after reading thru i realized its more than that. i m a long time standard enjoyer. i come from the time where standard is the default and at times the only game mode available (diablo1 lol). things used to be slower. i've long forgotten how slow things were. in poe2 i actively avoided trade. i really liked the slower paced and found some appreciation for the scarce drops. it really reminded me of how D2 used to feel. players valued magic items. item acquisition was slow (mace user). by the "end" of my playthru i got to level 80+. i really enjoyed the slow acquisition of power and growth. but i realized something. this is the antithesis of temp leagues. leagues require players to be able to quickly get back to the end game. if you had 3 months and the first few weeks were spent completing the campaign, you would have so little time to do anything else. its also reminded me of how i HATED leagues and avoided them. but i do play league content. " i've responded to this a couple of times by making different thread posts. theres a VERY easy solution. make league content available on STD. as simple as that. temp leagues can exist as they are. kirac pass/league challenges and their mtx rewards can remain in the dedicated reset league. just let std players access the league content as tho they were in the league in std. i m fucking sick and tired of having to grind back my lvls, recomplete my atlas, refarm my gear. in fact i m to the point that i m planning to actively avoid any live service diablolike that does not do this. poe included. you mentioned the benefits of standard. but i can tell you the detriments. 1. Fucked economy. Its stagnant. Inflation has set in. Anything you want is gonna cost an arm or a leg. It's better to just drop into new leagues and rough it out to gain more currency. want to sell fuses? they have value in temp leagues. want to sell yellow juice? they have value in temp leagues. theres so much more value. 2. Item acquisition. you yourself said it. its hard to find certain timeless jewels. You know how it is. Theres less active players and thus less people farming. listing every single timeless jewel for sale is also a huge hassle. 3. Hassle in trading. AFK players everywhere. a lot of items listed "last online 1 millenia ago". theres no guarantee a seller is actually selling. some sellers actually listed their items during a league but didnt bother to unlist them later and HAVE ZERO interest in trading in STD. in fact some people LIST THE ITEMS JUST TO ANTAGONIZE OTHERS lol. but not everyone is like that tho it just gets frustrating. 4. if you care about min maxing as a STD player, you NEED to play leagues. a lot of people have this idea that "dont worry, the league content will come in after 2-3 months". NO IT DOESNT. it used to be that way in the beginning where POE was starved of content. Now theres simply no guarantee the league mechanics would return. in fact i feel like the current state of Permanency in POE is WRECKED. the entire idea behind standard league is your gear and wealth are preserved. legacy rolls exist because of standard league. but GGG decided that NAH fuck standard. poofed alt quality gems. retroactively changed certain item mods. switched exalt/divines up. etc. the entire point of standard was for me to acquire wealth PERMANENTLY. but we dont even get that benefit. and to top it all off, the sheer existence of player power in temp leagues creates a huge opportunity cost. for example GGG can introduce a new belt that can transform a player into ultraman. it sound OP AF. so as a STD player you know these belts are quite strong. theres a possibility that GGG might decide to retire the league and have it never return, or they could just delete the belts at the end of the league. poof. OR they could let us keep the belts. we have ZERO confirmation and GGG will not tell us (understandably so) until mid/end of the league. as a standard player the only way to guarantee you get the belt is to play the league and earn one yourself. i did this for countless leagues. i did crucible. paid off. ended with a powerful weapon. i did sanctum. DID NOT PAY OFF. sanctified relics were poofed at the end of the league. tota gave us powerful tattoos which are no longer dropping. some tattoos are now limited in quantity. when theyre all used up, theres no more to be found. as such. i feel choked. if i want to enjoy standard and have the absolute best stuff specific to what i want. i m forced to play temp leagues which i HATE TO THE CORE. i would very much prefer to just play on std with the benefit of temp league content. in fact as a standard player i've come to feel like i m a second class citizen. when people are served steak. i get served shit. arguably the way i play requires even more time than temp leaguers. yet GGG does not cater to players like me. in fact other live service diablo likes do not cater to me. all except last epoch (for now). if you have a legacy character, you can access their league content without needing to restart from scratch. tbh i'm done with poe1 and prefer poe2. if ggg is not going to make this change, i m actually fine not playing poe anymore. i've already played this game and SUFFERED having to reset FOR YEARS. i fucking hated that experience. no thanks. " the thing is if its actually been sidelined into maintenance mode that is a pretty unprecedented step for a developer to take. ignoring the 2nd paragraph as that applies to PoE2 too so seems like a misnomer |

" Appreciate the post. You say a lot, but I agree with effectively all of it, so I'll just say that I appreciate the time you put into it. Honestly... it might be time for me to be truly done with Poe too. Kinda feel regret for all the money I've put into the game, but it's better to cut the losses, I guess. I'll miss my Cospri character, always been my favorite build type. But yeah; Standard is just left in the dust, and I don't want to play a resetting game mode. I think I'll give Epoch a serious try. I've played it for like an hour and stopped cuz I didn't feel like doing another campaign push in an ARPG, but I think I'll push through it and see what the game's got for me. |

" i m really passionate because i want poe1/2 to be the best it can be. i really want to keep playing the game and want to love it. but after 10 long years i've slowly come to ACCEPT that i m not GGG's core audience. maybe i was when the game initially began but as logic dictates, GGG has to move to where the money is at. GGG still has a chance to prove me wrong, but the longer they take, the less i would care. as for LE. i feel the campaign is a bit of a drag. POE2's campaign even tho we only got 3 acts so far is much more solid. tho i would say as an "indie" LE's story is not too bad. passable. LE's crafting tho is something players can quickly latch onto. you really dont need a PHD and at times you have enough currency that you would actually just slam currency on random junk to enjoy an easier experience. The endgame is similar to poe2s mapping (i think GGG took inspiration from it, but then again one can also argue EHG took inspiration from delve). a major difference is a timelines are meant to be reset frequently to refresh the map/unlock higher difficulties/gain permanent bonuses if you like single player no trade, they have CoF (circle of fortune) faction. which draws a lot from poe's prophecy league but cranked it all the way up that you really feel rewarded engaging with the mechanics. the feeling of being rewarded for not engaging with trade is something i sorely wanted in poe. but poe doesnt work that way. you will gain access to this faction maybe around level 50 or so via the story. POE1 for me is kinda dead (but revives sometimes)...
And I can't wait to play more from POE2 Still expecting a lot from it, even if takes long time to get at the right point Don't blame me for liking the upgraded poe |

I hate path of exile 2. I gave it a shot, didn't like it. Feels bad that I won't be able to enjoy poe anymore. :( I came back here hoping to see news about the new league, but all we get is more poe2 ruthless slop.

Ofc it's dead, campaign has been replayed dozens of times, most of builds explored, and there's no more challenges or any new content/fixes/changes. Imagine playing the Standard version of Standard...
Just waiting to -try- (i hope without disappointment) the free to play final version of poe2 in 2039. Because the game will still be free to play, right ?... Right ? In waiting this there are more than enough new games available and coming soon. |

" I found that amusing seeing you have at least two 40/40's =p But yes, I don't miss league (aside from the fresh stash tho that also meant no currency). Yep, totally over league play.
