Be honest: Is PoE 1 "dead?"

I know I've said this many times so far, but I'll say it again;

As soon as they announced that mtx (where 100% of their revenue comes from) would be cross-game, I knew PoE1 was going to be sent to maintenance mode. You then combine that with Tencent buying out 100% of GGG and anyone who even half pays attention would be able to deduce the same thing.

Go ahead and argue to any investor ever why they should double their development costs and cover two games, where the revenue comes from 1 thing that's shared between those two games. You'll be laughed out of the room. If they can sell mtx to PoE2 players, unless they're going to design PoE1 specific MTX (which they won't), why on earth would you then continue to develop another game that has the same mtx?

The PoE2 player has bought what they want. They then log into PoE1 and they see... the same mtx. Which they own. Sure maybe they'll play the game but that doesn't bring in any money.

Therefore the only conclusion is that any ongoing PoE1 dev time is to milk the tiny % of players too stubborn to play PoE2. I mean It's clear from the hugely successful PoE2 EA; PoE2 has outdone PoE1 by miles. They aren't going back.

Yep, many of us felt this way, however, 2 is not good and the numbers won't last unless a whole bunch of shit gets changed. How many poe noobs do you think are going to last trying to get through those abominable ascendancy trials.
OP doesnt understand how games with league system are working i dont get it how OP is so clueless

The amount of players not having the mental faculties to understand poe2 is in early access with the majority of the *base* game not even playable yet, not to mention every new mechanic to be added every content update /league is mind blowing.

Like yea dude, no shit lol

I was "stubborn" enough to try it, all the way up to T15+ Waystones and even did some bossing to level out my atlas trees. Sure, it has "outdone" PoE 1 when it comes to numbers, but is currently "miles" away from being a better game. Will it be a better game? Arguably, but GGG should absolutely keep supporting PoE 1 until PoE 2 is a better and more complete game, which may take years.

No one is asking them to "go back", which would be stupid.

My dude that's an absolute lie. Have you been gone from these forums / reddit ect for the last couple months? There's been plenty of players yelling at GGG that they shouldn't continue with poe2 and just focus on poe1.

Anyway my point is that it doesn't make logical sense to keep throwing money and dev time at poe1, when you could expedite poe2 considering its gigantic success. PoE2 has already paid for its entire development and beyond, and it's in freakin' early access with a fraction of just the planned base content available.

its also reminded me of how i HATED leagues and avoided them. but i do play league content.

I found that amusing seeing you have at least two 40/40's =p

But yes, I don't miss league (aside from the fresh stash tho that also meant no currency).

usually i jump into leagues for 2 reasons, the first is to bring some power/wealth to standard, the second is if the mtx rewards seem worth my time.

yeah i have 2 40/40s but i ll admit usually they're bought or carried. usually if i m deep into a league and hit 36/40 i might as well push to 40/40.

but i really would prefer if i could just use my existing gear/characters.

Of curse it makes sense? I don't know about you, but not all players are willing to play half-finished games and be GGG's testers. Some players want a complete experience, and while PoE 2 is many things, it is not a "complete experience".

PoE 1 is still a popular game where the last league saw record numbers, and I don't think I would become broke if I bet my money on 3.26 being just as - or more - popular. Both games in the top 20 Steam games?

Supporting both games is the right decision. That's what say said they would do, and that is what they should do. But it should've have been done in a more professional way, with proper teams working on the two games. There's no excuse for having "no senior developers" available for PoE 1 when they've been working on PoE 2 for 6+ years, promised support for two games and KNEW this situation would happen.

this....
I'm waiting to see how this bs storm pans out, but it doesn't look good by any margin for PoE1 players. New league and timelines for subsequent ones will prove if they were lying through their teeth (again).

It doesn't help that PoE2 took all the worst aspects of PoE1 and made them worse, so i'm not gonna waste my time there.
