"The new ascendancies are very well done".
Bloodmage is absolutely the worst, by far. The only good thing about it is progenesis, but until you get it, you can't even put points into the class, because you gimp yourself. It needs MAJOR rebalance/rework, or for the campaign to speed up to the point where you're not flailing for 20-25h without an ascendency, while everyone else gets to play with their toys. You also don't get uber powerful afterwards, so its not worth it compared to the other options.
It also seems that some skills don't have quality bonuses, so you can argue that for a subset of builds, Gemling Legionaire is useless. Seems like its easy to get gem levels, but not gem quality.
Blood mage needs work, but is a very small change away from being amazing.
Cost sustaining doesnt feel good, and the delay on gathering remnants doesn't feel good.
So you're a fan of the Ascendancy trials that force the absolutely horrific bullshit Sanctum and Ultimatum mechanics on you even though 95% of the player base HATED THEM???
Sorry, but the ascendancy trials in this game are tedious (not challenging, TEDIOUS) and just a waste of time... even the first ascendancy, I went through it without being hit once... then in the final boss I got him to 10% HP without being hit once and I misclicked and surprise surprise... I got one shot... so in 25 minutes I got hit ONCE and then the game punishes me and tells me to do it all over... and that's on normal difficulty and IN THE FUCKING CAMPAIGN... this is not even endgame...
The game is tedious and is going out of it's way to prove it's "hard" while it's not hard at all... as I said... I got hit ONCE in 25 minutes!!!
Sorry but you and your buddies are being blinded by the hype and this game is horrific... it's a looter without meaningful loot that is artificially "hard" (meaning it tries to fool people about being hard while it just punishes you on purpose to fool you that it's hard) that purposely makes the gameplay very very slow and bloated and the campaign takes 50+ hours which the game assumes you will repeat every 3 months for a decade...
This game is just full of bullshit mechanics that are there to fool people into thinking this is a "challenging" game... it's not... NOT AT ALL!!
Plus making a build in this game is very VERY streamlined and unchallenging too... you just pick the most obvious skills that synergize, throw in the most obvious support gems and just build full damage in the skill tree with only a couple of defensive nodes and you're done... that's pretty much all there is to it...

hmmm...sorry man there's a lot I don't agree with here...I think some more context and less..."vent" would be helpful in this thread as well.
Anyways, on that note, what was your class? I failed my first ascendancy trial but it felt deserved as I got greedy. Learnt to be careful next run and did it just fine. I'm aware those who play melee don't sound like they're having an enjoyable experience however.
Initial phase:
If you want someone to get absolute bodied their first hour of the game. I don't think you can learn how to play the game if that happens...
Loot:
I can't agree on the loot opinion. If all loot is good (what you need at the time), then no loot is good. Often times I'm finding myself picking up loot to save for later or other classes I might try. Or it's something I might spec a bit further with orbs. But i do agree that after beating a hard boss, it can be disheartening getting only magic rarity and under.
Difficulty:
There's a lot of mention about the games "hard" being "fake". Just out of curisoity, and context...What do you define as "hard" then? What would make the game "Hard" for you?

nah its pretty easy to see percentage of player base isn't happy. And while there are a lot of people playing, that doesn't really mean much. Lot of games have large player numbers a launch still end up less than postiive reviews.
The whiners are usually the loudest, the game still have concurrent 200k players playing right now (on steam charts I imagine their standalone client must have similar numbers), if it was as bad and tedious as everyone here makes it to be then nobody would play it more than a few hours, pure basic logic.

I recently cracked the code for melee bosses with that gorilla boss in act 3. I'm playing a ranger so I was trying to stay at range the whole time. Silly me - to beat most melee bosses, just literally walk straight into them and always play at absolute point blank range. Most of them will change their attack patterns to less damaging and more easily dodge roll-able attacks. The only bosses to watch out for are the ones that do a full 360 nova from their bodies, so for those just roll away.
For melee bosses I can just spam the arrow rain skill and roll around them like a clown. They usually won't move at all since their AI wants to be in melee range - so every arrow rain hits and you can easily dodge since the shortest radius on a cone based attack is near its base.
Now I think it's stupid the best way to play my archer is in melee range, but whatever, I didn't make this game.
yes,i found it samely yesterday in act 6
all you need to do is dancing gorilla dance lol

I just have to reply to your comment about Diablo 2 campaign being hard. We use to take reach hell A4 in diablo 2 on necro's at lvl 30 and could actually kill things in hell at level 30. That wasn't hard. It was FUN though.

It doesn't have to be hard, it has to present enough of a challenge for you to feel rewarded by being able to overcome it.

One of the problems I am seeing is that people state it is artificial difficulty but are vastly ignoring the RPG aspect of the game that can spike your power early. They will have unused artificer orbs and runes, and only be looking for an item to pick up to get stronger.
There should be a healthy balance of crafting currency and items, I agree item drops are scarce but it was not impossible. Opportunity cost and reliance on weapons for attack builds has always been high especially in early game, PoE1 players know this and GGG initially had even shifted some of that damage into the gem itself then walked it back by buffing bases.
Unfortunately people coming from different series or genre won't understand that because you simply use a "damage" stat and do damage. I think this is more of a tutorial tooltip issue -- spells versus attacks should be explained early on in gems.

but it has worse gem system most skills are terrible or just dont work.. YOU get zero loot even in endgame maps.. you get 2 rares a map with transmutes augs and maybe so other bubblegum currency.. not a single person even had UBER LAB YET so GL casuals theres nothing fun about poe 2
- Agree with gem system, it sill need works like adding de-level system, and some needs buffs. Mercenary bolts are simply just too weak for them to be the main skills.
- Agree with the loot. Even if Poe 2 is vastly different, it is still designed around PoE 1 balanced around trade. This is not the way, PoE 2 has to be balanced around combat, not trade or loot. We need much more loot and resource to craft our gear if the casino-fest system of "CRAFTING" is still exist. Either make currency rains, or completely redesign crafting and itemization.
- Disagree with Uber Lab. We are not entitled to get ascendancy power. We have to earn it, not given without much thought like in PoE 1. Ascendancy power should be earned through challenge, not running chores in Lab.

Point 2: This I have qualms with. The game should not be balanced around trade, this vastly diminishes the game experience for GSF or SSF players like myself. There's a happy middle ground of being able to find good amounts of crafting currency and not making BiS items too easily (looking at you launch harvest and necropolis)
Point 3: I strongly agree that player power should be earned not given. It's already basically free in the campaign with some effort. Martial base types should get a little attention with the current droprate of loot for those campaign trials, though. Either way, it's something you should be able to come back to later, a tooltip around coming back when you are stronger would go a long way.
