Cold Chronomancer Megathread. Fully updated.
" You are a bit late on fireball train =) There are entire builds around it, like https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3625530 I also put that cold fireball chrono in lvling section bc I thought it was good enough when I tested it. If you add Snakepit to it - it starts to shine even more. Btw, if I recall correctly, I had 2 natural drops of this ring. So it shouldn't be this rare. " Played around it too. Surprisingly, strong skill in terms of single target dps btw, can be elaborated. I was surprised how a single cast melted rares. Mana Flare was damn good on it too for clearing. Opted out of EoW tho, for whatever reason it was. Now it's just a better supportive skill instead of Frost Bomb. " I can't ignore it for some strange reason. Playing Slowmancer, a bit attracted to this word xD Anyway, I question the practical use of this approach. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Edit: dandylions#0610, Igni#4797, thanks for your takes here. Glad to see recoup works for you. " I'm not sure why you are so hard on stun threshold, esp bc there is no real stun immunity outside of Stone Charm. Also, it's pointless to scale ST w/o armour unless you have giga ES pool. Several "small hits" on naked ES will break your threshold really quickly at the endgame anyway. Idk if Eye of Chayula Gold Amulet (+2500 flat threshold) can help here. Got nerfed since PoE1. Last edited by monik390#5560 on Jan 7, 2025, 9:51:54 PM

Metamorphosis medium-small on this node is nice for crit builds.
3 notables in top left portion: Aspiring Genius: 20% mana regen, 10% chance for Arcane Surge on crit Austerity Measures: +5 attr, 20% ES as stun threshold Calibration: 30% increased max ES, 4% increased max mana It normally takes 13 points to path to these 3 notables. You can free up 10 points with this jewel. There's also other notables you may find useful: Heart Tissue, Spirit Bonds, Growing Swarm, Ancestral Conduits. " tooltips say one thing, and from what I understand players seem to think stun works in another way. "Increasing your Stun Threshold makes it less likely that being Hit by an enemy will Stun you." "Hits against any target have a chance to Stun them, with a stun being more likely the more damage was dealt. Stunning a target interrupts their current action and prevents them from taking another action for a short time. Physical damage, and player (but not monster) Melee Damage, are each 50% more likely to Stun targets. For players, these bonuses are multiplicative with each other. All Hits that could potentially inflict a Stun also cause Heavy Stun buildup." so yeah, tooltips make it sound like Stun works like Evasion. rng chance. still possibly deterministic. Players seem to think Stun threshold is a raw value, that works more like Freezebuild up. 2000 threshold, take 4 500 stun hits, and you get stunned. From what I understand; Stun threshold is based on Base max life. even with CI. but if you are going CI, or just heavy ES, might not be investing in life much/at all. A bunch of Gain ES% as stun threshold. self mortification line is stronger then austerity "increased stun threshold" should multiply into "Gain stun threshold" ascetism if your ES is much higher then life. (not including CI.) stun recovery? is stun considered a debuff? maybe just reduced duration is easier? 20% chrono, 20% hallowed, 40% quick recovery. belts.. stun threshold belts... or Charm duration/charge gain/reduced.. I wonder if blink works with "unwavering stance".. My experiences with stun is I think it is rng like evasion. and % chance is higher, the higher the damage. I have absolutely gotten stunned by some random poke for like 200 damage to my ES before. if it was buildup, that wouldn't happen. in the same way I don't get randomly frozen by 100-300 damage cold attacks. So, stun threshold probably IS very useful. its just we can't see the %'s. so no one is gearing for it properly. like trying to gear for block, without actually being able to see the numbers of how much block you have. at the same time of course, if a single stun charm does the job 99% the time 1% of the effort, then thats going to be the answer. -I am slowing down on the chronomancer. hitting t14 maps(ilvl78-80), and running out of them. map blocking, and the actual process of juicing maps is not fun at all. farming trials for jewels, farming ultimatum for soul cores. ugh.. absolute chore. having to waste time on bad maps, to find ones with bosses to actually run. lame. I did start up a chaos witch, was planning on hexblast, or something. the degens really are a bit weak.. but, also...got the Kenshi itch... Last edited by Casia#1093 on Jan 8, 2025, 9:34:00 AM

Well, i really wished i could make cold work, i see you guys could, but i simply cannot drop/craft the items to unstuck myself, so im swapping to lightning archmage, i do wanna clear maps.
Its just not fun see everyone doing stuff w/o much effort, when you, to do the same takes 3 or 5 more effort to do the same, am exalting maps, am tableting towers, also exalting items, but they all just get t1 mods on the regal or second exalt, chaos usually takes out the mods i didnt wanted out. i have no idea if only me feel like cold spells are mostly trash, since most of you guys got it to work, i will hang around, and hope some updates on cold, or even more support to it. 3 link gems also isnt cutting anymore, prob will dump all my exalts on the 4rth link instead of trying to get a decent item or on maps |

" If you are low on currency remember that you can try to obtain a 4th link via Vaal Orbing a 3link gem (some rng required) As for build struggles, upgrading your weapon really, really changes a lot in damage output department. While standard cold clearing is fine if you can get used to the rotation of your choice, with Snakepit it suddenly is elevated way beyond using Frostbolt. Might've been covered elsewhere but I could not find it. How does snakepit work actually or rather how does it help us?
While I was initially following a similar build to this thread in the begining, I had to stop for 2weeks while on vacation and slowly swapped off to the crit EOW/Comet build. (That forum thread is kinda dead atm) I went a maligaro's gloves route for fixed 300% crit dmg. EOW is great at clearing clumped packs. Comet has 59k tooltip dmg with 73% crit with inevitable critical socketed. Its been fine so far but I'm starting to think its kinda reached its limit, I can clear T15 maps without much issue. Only the occasional rare might be an issue with either stuns or my inability to freeze/kill it fast enough. My comet has an 800 mana cost. I thought I was doing fine until I tried the trial master where seeing my meteors do like 200k dmg. Only managed to get him down to 50% before I died to lack of mana and mechanics. I know I'm still technically still early end game, as I only got 2 boss tree skill points and nothing else. Anyone got any advice on how to improve? I might want to swap out of EOW now that crit is not an issue. |

Meanwhile, working on the lvling section with cold spells.
Act 2 boss demo: https://youtu.be/C3-rI3tUl1c Crest of Ardura shield, Frost Bomb with 3 supports, random +2 wand from the vendor, and some uniques I had in my stash (Ghostwrithe, and whatever belt with str). " Snakepit is used for Frostbolt, so it can explode on contact after forking instead of piercing through the enemies. Frostbolt explosions are stronger than projectile damage, have some AoE, and, most importantly, they can shotgun. This offers awesome synergy with Frost Wall (shotgunning) and Cast on Crit-Comet for generating a crapload of energy for the latter. If you check my Simulacrum video, you can notice me exploding walls with the Frostbolt for that. As for the builds, well. Seeders build is very different, I can't tell how to improve it. Your best bet is to check some pobs and videos from the OP for reference. A video guide by PaintMaster is quite good, there is also Chobi0ne's explained maxroll too. Anyone here verified if Magnified support gem works on Casted on Crit Comet? I have a different version of the CoC Comet which is a 1-2 combo of Frost Wall and Self-cast comet (which blasts the walls). Very consistent in proccing a shower of comets on the screen. In some cases, it can clear about 60-70% of mobs on screen. I'm trying to decide if the support gem is better slotted in Frost Walls or in CoC? Right now I feel that it's better on CoC for my build but I'm bad at checking and verifying these things.
BTW, I have 99.9% crit chance on my self-cast comet. It has the Inevitable Crit gem, without it its about 85%+ I think. I have a high crit chance as I use the Maligaro's gloves to free up some points that would otherwise be specced into Crit Dmg. It gives me a flat 300% crit bonus damage, slightly lower than if you get all the crit damage nodes. But, I'm able to slot Jewels with double crit chance (inc. crit chance for spells and inc. crit chance). Per combo, my 3.8k mana gets drained 100% due to the rain of comets (I have Archmage), which is solved by 3 jewels with 2% mana on kill. Really fun build but weak against breaches because of the major downside of casting a comet. I have a 1.45s cast time on my comet. So, any opinion on which to slot the Magnified gem on? This would replace Impetus but I tested and that doesn't even matter. Crit chance and damage of the self cast comet is just too good for gaining energy. " Magnified definitely works on CoC-Comet, visually it becomes way bigger. I tested Frostbolt, and magnified is better in wall for me. However, Comet has bigger AoE than FB, so it might be better for you to place it in CoC. P.S. Got my hands on some nice Maligaro's after y'll mentioned them here, but holy, that dex req is ugh...and I can't find resistances atm, very hard to fit T_T Idea is nice tho.
