One thing I don't get is how everyone is reserving so much spirit. You've got people using CoF and Archmage and things like Blasphemy and stuff. Like... how?

if I had enough spirit: Archmage first, +clarity, blink second, cast on freeze frost wall third. (and cast on freeze mana drain if that was an option. haha.) then grim feast, then ghost dance.


This is what I mean. I can have like... one of those things. I have 60 spirit now but what is the cap people can get to? I'd love to take CoF + Blink to try that one out, but even that I can't do right now.


100 spirit from quests. 30+30act 3 witch+40 act 3 witch in cruel.

I have 10 spirit via solar amulet. implicit.
+50spirit on chest. rolled mod.

so, I have 160 spirit and have to choose. I could go archmage 100, blasphemy 60. or archmage 100, cof 60. but I want clarity, so archmage 100, clarity 10, grim harvest 30. atm.

we could of course even go +spirit on scepters, at the cost of caster stats.
can get mana, int, mana regen etc. but not +spell damage, +cold damage, +cold spells, or all spells.

yeah. t2 boss, and 3 floor sekama trial, I could not tell the slightest difference in freezing. as said before, it could just be I have so much +freeze buildup.. and frost wall itself being OP.

maybe this will be more noticeable to those with less buildup, lower cold damage hits, or bosses we can't use frost wall on.

ive mentioned it before but it is pretty solid.
if I take a 1000 damage hit. 340 of it goes to mana. 415 to energy shield. 245 hp to life. I then recoup 420 life, and 200 mana over 6.5s. (with pliable, and not second ascend) so, I recoup the full damage taken, not the damage taken to my hp.

From your example means If I take 1000 dmg hit. no matter what it go through. All recoup proc with 1000 dmg?
Like If I have recoup 4 sec node (The Rapid River)
40% life 1000 * .4 = 400 over 4 sec = 100 per sec
10% ES 1000 * .1 = 100 over 4 sec = 25 per sec
50% mana 1000 * .5 = 500 over 4 sec = 125 per sec

If I did not run MOM or any damage taken from mana, I still get 500 mana for free?
and as recoup no cooldown means If I get seccond hit it will proc new recoup again?
then how about block or evade?
If it still proc recoup....
If it really like this I think I really underrate the recoup method.....
That belt recoup 50% mana is the must



each hit is a separate instance of recoup.

so if hit two times for 1000 damage each. and have 40% life recoup.
you'd get 400 hp over 4s two times. that stack. 100hp/s+100hp/s giving you 200hp/s recovery. you can open your character sheet and watch this. the 200hp/s would drop down to 100hp/s as the first instance wears off.

and yes, each individually count from the original 1000 damage hits. 400 life, 100 es, 500 mana in your example.
the value is after DR though. so the actual value that gets through. 1000 fire damage hit, that is DR'd down to 250, gives you 50% of 250, not 1000.
did not test block/evade, but I would assume its like that. no damage done, no recoup.

recoup IS very good. however, recoup is great for sustain, but does not protect from oneshots, or massive fast damage. so do remember it can't be your only line of defense. ES, enfeeble, damage taken from mana, armor, max capped resists.
Is there any way to make Frostbolt hit rather than pierce? I have searched through passives and support skill gems and didn't find anything.

Overall, I'd say I'm extremely upset about the recent changes. I don't even care about Comet + CoF, that thing was clearly broken. However, I have to push all the buttons I have, just to stay alive and the damage is laughable, while some monk or ranger just eradicates everything in his screen with 1 button push. I have played my fair share of MMO's, so it's not an issue for me to remember pushing 10 button in different order for different combos, but here the result is just not worth it.

Apparently, in this game a cold sorc is not suppose to have damage, but judging by the recent changes, she's also not supposed to have crowd control. Why does it exist then? I have everything build on Freeze Buildup and it doesn't really do much after the last patch. You either find a broken 1 button build that will get nerfed eventually, or you die. Why developers are pushing fun out of PvE games recently, I honestly have no idea.

I'm level 68 currently, and I'm at the end of Cruel. I never has issues with any bosses or any levels, but I can see that this is not going to work on maps.

Pulled points out of "shattered crystal" its great for speed, but doesn't actually do anything for raw damage, or survival. direct hits still pop. and frost bomb still pops it one or two hits. cold snap too.

Buffed heavy frost is 100% in. no longer a massive dps loss with exposure/hypo. but now instead is a huge buff to archmage, "climate change" and tri element. and in general when not casting bomb/hypo.



Just dinged 67 and going for T1/T2 maps, previously was running the Frost Wall build from you with huge success - though it was pretty squishy

However even with icicles and the talent, Frost Wall had ~3k hp+, making it difficult to detonate (could be just too high skill gem?)

With this current iteration did you tweak around with skill gems or the same principle applies?
Hi, new around here, ive made 3 or 4 posts about cold spells already, noone could give me answers it seems so let me try here.

but first... Temporal Rift
For some reason with 40 spirit, i cannot use temporal rift with more than one support gem, even having spirit left to reserve, anyone else having that problem? try to use clarity+herbalism+canibalism, it works with 1 of those, but that leave me with spirit unreserved.

now the thing i really wanna discuss... Cold SPELLS(not attacks) damage

i feel like everything on the kit, besides comet/wall/bomb are trash tier in regards of damage/killing stuff.

am i doing something wrong? im at act 3, just drained the water there.

im reeeally worried that i will not be able to kill the viper with cold spells(cruel)

after this patch i was thinking on crit build, havent reseted skills yet but the nerfs on cold hurts a lot a spell that wasnt mentioned, cold snap, since it needs things frozen, the payoff it already didnt looked marvelous before this last patch.

im headding to the game now, gonna check out how hard its to freeze stuff now for the first time.

but if anyone could give a light on the cold spells, my frostbolt for example, deals 200 dmg per ball... so i feel like every other spell element have all the fun and scales very well, and cold got left outside the fun train.

For me Vitality was not working with TR - whatever amount of spirit i had it never allowed me to actually use the skill.
Clarity + Ingenuity + Cannibalism should work though

yeah, currently the primary core support for frostwall is just deep freeze, for boss freezing.

ive toyed with icicle. and had the -wall life passive. but, currently have neither. reducing frost walls HP, speeds up the build for mapping/trash. as you can pop it with one bomb/coldsnap, or even 3-5frostbolts/eye of winter/shards.

however, as noted, that just speeds up map, doesn't effect raw power.

my frost wall atm. 5015 hp.
deep freeze, conc effect, controlled destruction. 1852 average damage.

my frost bombs are 3606 average damage... with spell echo, second wind, and strip away.
crits 1 shot the walls. or, the echo takes them out.

my cold snap. 6503 average damage. +1 skill level, +40% aoe, and considered casting, +40% damage.
1 shots full hp walls.

and of course walls instantly explode on bosses anyway. so, that just freed up points imho.
Archmage is active here.
spell damage, and extra damage as cold/fire on gear. not alot of +cold skills admittedly. which is something. damage on gear, is well damage. but +skills on gear, is damage, AND wall hp.
it is possible your walls have outleveled you other spells yeah. not sure.

"squishy" if doing hardcore, or not geared well. timesnap is great for dps uptime. but, temporal rift, or the 30% life recoup is absolutely better for survival.

my survival went way up hitting 1400-1500hp, the 34% damage from mana, and having that small 400-500es shield.

xD If you see any "decent" youtube vids everyone is using Archmage to promote his/her build as overpowered,whilst the skill is actually broken to not use...I dont think something can compete with it at the moment.
