Just make POE 2 not gender locked, simple.

To an extent, for sure. It's not that idea is terrible, though, it's just that GGG would have to divert resources away from the game's development that they clearly can't afford right now. The scope and ambition of PoE2 is already so large that it's caused multiple delays, and nobody very few people want to see things delayed further to add alternate character models, character animations, armour models, and voice lines for 12 character classes.

GGG could add it later as an optional mtx kinda thing. They did say that the new character rigging would allow for it, so it's not impossible to do, it's just currently out of scope. That might actually make for a good straw poll topic:

Q1. Would you be willing to pay extra for an mtx that adds additional character models to the game?

Q2. If so, how much would you be willing to pay for each additional model? $5? $10? $20? $40?

Q3. Which character class would you most want to see get additional alternate-gender model first?

It might be interesting to have some actual data on that. What can I say? I'm a data-driven kinda guy.

I think one androgynous exile would be perfect for everyone.
I'd rather they prioritize gameplay related features with the limited dev time.

Androgynous exile wouldn't appeal to everyone. If they could waste tons of money on customization of character sex and gender, they could do it for everyone. They could introduce dynamic sex and gender selection where you can choose sex and gender of npc.

Think of the possibilities. POE 2 could be a dating sim.

I personaly apreciate that poe as it is now has no character customization options. Hopping strait into the game not having to
adjust a bunch of booba sliders is just a better experience for me.

If the game had customization options, I can imagine the nerfs and buffs:

For patch 2.9 Booba sliders will produce 15% less booba. To balance out these game adjustments, Fanny sliders are increased by 25%.

:o)

This discussion makes me retroactively marvel at the decision of the makers of Gish to have a blob of tar as the character model.

couldnt care less
I understand that most of you don't care about such things, but even in arpg's, I only play female classes, and it's frustrating to get locked out of certain roles because of that, even if I understand that that is my choice.

I just wish there was a female melee / strength class. I am guessing the Huntress won't be too far off, but having to path to the other side of the tree down from Sorc, and ascendancies that don't have a focus on strength and melee, is a real downer. I am sure there are some people who would want to play a male mage as well (so glad for female sorc though, my favorite class from d2!)

I agree that it would be too much work that could be spent on other things, and it does not benefit lore wise to allow the classes to pick gender, but just having 1 female strength / melee class would have gone a long way, I think.

I guess I just wish the templar was female, it seems like it would be the perfect class to pick.

That is what a big part of the communitiy is asking. It will increase the amount of cosmetics buyers, no downside. You said urselves that the engine now allows you to make kind of stuff much easier.

There is one downside. If they do genders for classes, they have to do they body type 1&2 thing or increase the age rating in the west by "law". It is why every game now that lets you choose the sex of a character has body type 1&2.

It will be one of the first woke things entering the game and I don't like it.
