From what we've seen so far, do you feel you're going to stay with PoE1 or move to PoE2?

I was super hyped for POE2 and spend about 17h until Saturday, but I won't continue for the foreseeable time.

My character gets better through level-ups only and does so at about the same pace the mobs get better, so I don't really feel it.

Ruthless-of-Exile 2 isn't for me.

They put more emphasis on vendors for campaign upgrades but gold is in such short supply so even when you can afford it you need luck or it’s a bit rough for upgrades.

Well, the non-gamble vendors never offered anything that was even close to an upgrade, so I poured all my gold into "gamble a random sceptre". I got two useful magic bases that bricked after throwing two regals and the three exalts I had on them. Result: No gold, no orbs, no upgrade.
Didn't play it. After 5k hours in PoE 1 i have seen quite a lot of things that could have been improved in the sequel. Instead of that, as i understand, i'm getting completely different gameplay, some "souls-like Hades/ARPG hybrid set in PoE universe". I don't like trade, i play HC - currently both of these are pure masochism in PoE 2.

It will probably find its audience, especially now, when wasting your time on games is getting more and more dominant in the entertainment sphere (because games are cheap). But in its current state it's not for me.

Staying 100%. I initially had no intention of going back to PoE1 but the past 48h disappointed me thoroughly.

I'll revisit PoE2 every so often when major updates happen.
PoE2 feels like it will be a great game, in about a year, and if the devs get their heads out their asses. Current state of no loot and the snail's pace to get through acts is just not fun and I can't see myself grinding new characters in PoE2 right now. I just hit Act 4 (Cruel act 1) and Im deciding if I even want to make it to endgame at this point, as Ive read the endgame is also awful and you get no loot from maps either.

Why they decided to go in this Ruthless direction for the game, a mode that is extremely unpopular and nobody plays in PoE1, I have no idea.
Playstyle preferences aside, it's hard to imagine doing this seasonally.
PoE2 for sure, ill probably be back to play poe 1 leagues as well after a while.

PoE2 is an ARPG maligned by the fact it's an ARPG. It's so angry it cannot be Elden Ring or Dark Souls. I don't really see a reason to stick with it since as an ARPG, it's tedious, slow, lacking in loot and doesn't really scratch the itch and as a DS/ER clone, it fails to do anything better than those games. I like dodge roll mechanics, I love Monster Hunter, especially the earlier titles I grew up on but here it's just an excuse to give us no movement skills and make the bosses spam AOEs vs anything interesting or well telegraphed.

This? It's like the worst aspects of both these genres combined cause they are desperate for their game to be challenging. I'll probably try some more maps, then probably just go back to PoE1 when they launch a league. I just hop they don't cop out on the quality of leagues to develop this.

I don't think I'm gonna stay in PoE 2. It's not that the game is too hard, it's how the game handles difficulty. It's way too slow and clunky.

Melee was supposed to be much more enjoyable than in PoE 1, but it clearly doesn't feel right. I have no idea how it got past testing.

Too many forced interactions, added casting animation, and forced movement on every single skill.

Most skills have reduced attack speed, or added cast time, resulting in attack time above 1.5 or even 2 seconds. It's even slower than a MOBA...

Many skills move your character forward, which forces you to stay away from enemies to make sure your attack connects and to prevent your character from sliding next to your target. Earthquake feels the least worst as it locks you in place, and it still has a forced interaction with the totem and 3-4 seconds delay.

The rest of the skills are technical or utility skills like rolling slam, armor break, or boneshatter. Boneshatter can't even be used alone and requires setup. Warcry is required for another skill to explode, and the fissures on the grounds require another slam skill to trigger. It goes against the core design of PoE of freedom of builds we all loved.

While the attack speed could be buffed by tweaking numbers, the other flaws can't be solved without changing the entire skill system. So many convoluted skills and interactions, why can't we just bonk our ennemies ? The basic attack ended up being my most reliable skill, no matter how hard I tried to make other skills work.

PoE 2 contains a lot of great ideas, like the new skill tree, the gem and rune systems and great bossfights. But I just didn't have fun playing through the campaign. I'm gonna try the endgame next, but I doubt it will change my mind.

I don't know what happened in the making of PoE 2 for it to release in this state, even in early acces. Maybe they saw an opportunity when Elden ring and other souls-games became popular in 2022, and changed everything last minute. It just doesn't fit the ARPG genre or even what was advertised at exilecon.

I hope GGG listen to the feedback like they did in PoE 1, but it will probably take several years to redesign the entire combat system.

What do you like about PoE2?

The dodge roll?

Interactive spell mechanics, there is some thought to how you engage mobs and boss. You have to switch up skills and support skills for different bosses. I can see what is actually happening on the screen. There is actually a sense of accomplishment growth when you over come an actual challenge. You press more then 1-2 buttons and the screen doesn't just melt.

Plus it's a sunning game visually and athestically.

Definitely needs some tuning, better loot drop ratios, I would be up for a phase mechanic on dodge roll. I hate getting stuck on things. Some sort of out of combat movement speed be it mount or boost. Some better sound telegraph for boss attacks, they are sometimes hard to see.

That paradigm that poe1 has 1 button is complete bs. Builds i've played over the last few years mostly had all skill slots used and on top of it all flasks.
I'll return to PoE1 as soon as a new season will be available.
When i'll be bored at end of the season, i'll come back to lose my time on PoE2.
A sure thing is that i will not create another char in PoE2 in season or else...
