ExileCon Put My Support Into a Conflicted Place
" They Lied for years while taking our money, Ungrateful and Spoiled are not the words that come to mind here, And to see people turning on each other so readily all over the forum its really sad. Would you let them keep the money you gave them if you knew this would happen? Innocence forgives you Last edited by SilentSymphony on Aug 1, 2023, 10:25:47 PM

I will say this OP; you're completely correct in assuming that the "POE 1 will continue development" line is just a line. They HAVE to say that. PoE 2 is 1.5+ years out, they can't just kill PoE1 now when there's ~6 more leagues to milk until launch.
Edit; in case I sound too cynical, I'm absolutely (barring unforeseen developments) buying in to PoE2. Will be giving it a good ol try for awhile I think. Last edited by Bleu42 on Aug 1, 2023, 10:32:31 PM

I am still riding the Exilecon high having been there myself. But I’ll agree hearing about POE 2’s current direction and vision over the last few days didn’t feel like a home run for me like it was in 2019.
I can empathise with your dilemma and concerns. But for me, GGG has such a track record of doing the right thing in the long run that I’m very prepared to give them the benefit of doubt for the next year or so. It will convert your forum titles into decorative square badges that use the space next to your forum posts more economically so that you can show off an unlimited number of them at any one time. - GGG, 2018 (https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3573673)

" my opinion differs on this, the way i see it, tencent has zero say in the development and direction of the game. they wanted full control of POE china, which has many things that CHRIS DOESNT WANT. it has automated trading, it has pets that pick up currency. the "sin's daughter" or something pet is next level. maybe daily rewards, maybe changed lootdrops. that is tencent's extent of control over GGG. full control over POE CHINA. dont need to compromise, dont need to discuss. if tencent wants it, POE CHINA will be how tencent needs it to be. as for POE 2. thats on the devs... ultimately chris... then again, with the devs going back on their exilecon 2019 announcement... makes me wonder how far i can trust them on the tencent buyout.... really makes me wonder should i reconsider how i originally felt about that. " QED. "Let them keep the money". Dude, do you even know who I am and how much money I put into PoE? Do you know how purchases work? Do you honestly think what you asked makes even a modicum of sense? I would be embarrassed to even entertain the idea of asking for even a cent back. Every single one of you got precisely what you paid for. What GGG do with the money from that sale is 100% their business. Did you lot seriously think you were supporting what you are already playing? When you buy a movie ticket, you are not funding that movie. You are supplying the studio with a tiny contribution towards future projects. Anyway I am done. I wish I were surprised that it was the players, my fellow Exiles of many years, driving me away and not GGG...but I am not. I am sure you are all okay to amazing individuals but as gamers you are collectively making me sick. Charan out. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

"Why am I always right about the wrong things? I knew PoE 2 had to be a new game and mocked anyone claiming otherwise."
You already knew it would be a new game. You had insider information, only you were not allowed to say anything about or better validate it before exilecon. Of course you will deny this. Baldur's Gate hauled in millions of supporter money with the promise they would deliver a Baldur's Gate 3 that most D&D gamers will love. So according to Charan, if Larian decided to instead make a FPS with that money, all would be perfectly fine. What Larian does with the money is 100% their business. So I guess in the end, we all decided to buy some shitty mtx and that is what we paid for. P.S.: Contrary to your opinion, a lot of service games actually do NOT close. Heart of Purity

" you are right in the movie ticket analogy for regular games. we buy a game the money funds new projects. similarly if we buy a battlepass/mtx or anything, it goes to wherever the devs want it to go. that analogy works well for a customer/purchased product relationship for the most part, this is true with POE as well. where it diverges is when ggg made the 2019 exilecon announcement. to me that changed the dynamics where players can be seen as investors and ggg are delivering a sales pitch. they announced poe2 a certain way which got them more investors. as a gamer i m aware that games have a lifecycle so i tend to not dump too much time/money into any of them. d1 ends i dont expect to use my gear n characters in d2. thus i also dont buy any d1 cosmetics (just for example). when ggg announced that poe2 will be additional content that's compatible and will improve poe2. that announcement gave many players/investors faith in the company. the implication is that we're no longer using the "new title release, old title abandon" convention. the implication is that GGG will continue giving us "more of the same". the implication is that our investment of game time as well as monetary level will not be wasted. the implication is many years down the line poe3 would follow suit. this kept me playing poe longer than any game. this loosened up my wallet and made me spend more money in the game. exilecon2023 ggg said wooops, seperate game lols. sure theres no contract signed. perhaps legally theyre covered. but the feeling of betrayal is real. it feels bad and thats why people complain. the only thing we can do is complain and hope we rock the boat enough ggg does something (doubt anything happens) " gamers as a collective are a huge diverse bunch. i hate them as a whole too. in fact i hate society as a whole. then again, we cant expect everyone to agree with us. the most i that i expect is mutual respect, but we're bound to see some assholes who just on being rude and shit on people. btw, Charan? you're the "charan sword" creator charan? i heard you wiped your account off the face off the forums never to return [Removed by Support]

" let me know if you find something good :D | |
1. POE2 will be like POE1 with new mechanics that allows further builds. I made a post earlier about how they made the game artificially challenging and posting a video from an attendee even. But it seems to fall on deaf ears, almost as if people WANT to believe they have been betrayed.
2. After the buyout, MTX is not about support, it is about looking good. 90% is owned by tencent right? Buying MTX to support the game is foolish at this point. |
