Ah, thanks. (I saw the post.) I assume to be the realm of 5.2 block chance as the Inner Force pocket makes a total of a 30% increase. (4 * 1.3= 5.2)

I'm still considering not choosing Inner Force as I only plan on using 2 auras (Tempest Shield and Wrath), and seems like a waste unless I use more auras.

Some feedback I'd like to add here:
Is it possible to make the effect slightly smaller?
Or, maybe, less bright? Or flat, aka closer to the shield?
I found it really distracting, to the point that in the prison I shut it off on a marauder (now legacy) to concentrate on find the necros.

I personally love the effect. It's like I'm carrying around a portable force field! Honestly, half the reason why I use tempest shield in my build is to see its awesome effect.

That's it, it doesn't look in the slightest like a forcefield to me, it looks like a Flak Searchlight.
It protrudes way from the character.

Is there a reason why Tempest Shield appears to be the only self-buff that de-activates when an area transition transpires? I wish it were otherwise.
Underrated stats: Basic human decency, small quantum of respect, microportion of compassion
No, you don't :P It doesn't properly apply its bonuses when transferred through a transition.
Also, there's a bunch of buffs that do not; TS is just the only one with a reservation cost </nitpick>

Because it isn't just a self buff. It's a self buff and an ongoing skill that deals damage to things while that buff remains, and skills cannot be transferred between areas. To have the ongoing part of the skill, you must use the skill in that area.
I'm using this skill on my molten shell templar, and I like it quite a bit. It provides decent damage on block and an added chance to block, which is perfect for my build.

That being said, I do, like others, question the balance of this skill. It offers a flat block percentage at all levels, scaling damage, and costs a % of reserved mana.

Because of the way block works in this game, It wouldnt make a whole lot of sense for the block bonus to scale with the level of the game. Maybe it could start out at 2 and end up at 6 or something, that would work, but as we can see from the passive tree, block doesnt have a rating that has differing results depending on the situation. It is what it is, which is part of its appeal.

Because of this, having the mana cost be a flat value instead of a % would result in people just keeping the gem at level 1 for the block bonus.

On the other hand, the fact that the mana cost is % reserved makes it so that it is impractical to use the skill with any support that increases the mana cost, which makes the offensive aspect of the skill relatively limited. The only practical options for linking are iron will, knock back, stun, mana leech, blind, culling strike (only 110% mana multiplier), and of course reduced mana cost, item rarity, and item quantity.

It almost seems like the 2 parts of the skills need to be separated so that it can be effectively utilized. Another option that occurred to me is that the block bonus could apply to total block, between 5% and 15%, meaning that 5% increased block chance at 50% chance to block would be 50 x 1.05 = 52.5, so an extra 2.5% chance to block. At max level, it would be 50 x 1.15 = 57.5, so an extra 7.5% chance to block. Given that, it would be more reasonable to have the mana reservation be a flat number instead of a % of total mana.

It's just that right now the skill isnt versatile because it is torn between balancing the block bonus and maintaining the offensive potential.
IGN: Iolar
Crit Strikes (115%) + Elemental Proliferation (140%) + Reduced Mana alongside the Static Blows cluster makes Tempest Shield into an automated Shock machine. Build of the Week #6 showcases this idea, minus Static Blows, and with a Crit Damage support gem. The final reservation was 39%, which is not too bad.
