New tier of currency items is an awful idea imo and thats why

what we need are alteration orbs, not 12 different exalted orbs
I'm also surprised by how unnecessarily complicated solution GGG came up with just to avoid making more deterministic crafting accessible to a wider audience.

Introducing currency tiers will only add to inventory clutter and make things even more convoluted.

It seems like they're trying to address the following issues, but I'm not convinced it's a good solution:

1. Reducing the amount of RNG in crafting.
2. Creating a sink for underutilized currency.

Why not define a range of mod tiers for each item tier? I'm surprised this hasn't been implemented already.

And what about giving underutilized currency a new purpose or making it useful in a different way?

Perhaps GGG is just experimenting with new ideas. It's EA, after all.

they are trying to make drops exciting. if you have better orbs you will be more excited about dropping a good base to use it on. you introduce bench/deterministic crafting/scours or alts and all that goes to the trash.

if this was true, poe1 would have garbage loot while poe2 loot would be great. but its the other way around. the definition of good loot for me is an item i can use to craft something useful. not a white item i have to collect 50 times for each slot in order to maybe make 1 item because they think alterations are evil. its exactly the same process, but instead of using 50 orbs i have to collect bases because the vision says item reset is bad.

nope, i said 'make drops exciting'. poe1 loot is so 'great' that no one cares about item drops past day2 of maps. if you idea of item acquisition is a DIY project with 3 tabs, p calc and a spreadhseet then a looter game might not be for you
At least some of these orbs are probably not adding to inventory clutter. Knowing GGG you will only find 0-3 per league and sell it to the high budget crafters ;P

Alteration Orbs are the backbone of poe craft. Sure they influence the loot on the ground, but it's not like Alteration crafting is that gamebreaking in poe 1. YOu would still pick up rares at least.

It is absolutely 100% necessary to reroll blue items. The loot on the ground was way to sparse when i last played to justify this non existing crafting system where you just slam a lottery ticket on a halfway decent item to make it good in 1 out of 100 cases at best...If one could at least reroll 1 good prefix and 1 good suffix as a baseline to craft on with regals and exalts, like in poe 1 when the game was new, that would be a start.

Also, lol at high tier transmute and augment...How many white bases are we supposed to mule? THe odds are probably still to low to justify this kind of tedium...

if you need 3 tabs, p calc and a spreadsheet, maybe youre not understanding crafting. there are item drops that are exciting after day 2 of maps. its just a normal matter of character progression that less and less things will make your character stronger, thats nothing new and not different in poe2. and for sure, this problem isnt solved by having shitty crafting.

Trust me, I won't be more excited. Ultimately, all I really want is to occasionally find meaningful upgrades naturally as I level up. All these mostly trash drops and rare jackpot moments are more frustrating than exciting for me. Of course, monopoly-minded guys could see that differently.
The tiered currency completely turned me off from this patch. Dumb AF.

really, ok well we are getting lots of DROP ONLY bases now for late end game. you can slam these with your best/premium orbs for best chances- if hits great! if not you can farm another high value base and be excited when it DROPS, not sit in your h/o throwing thousands of alts at it, looking up Probablity values, blocking suffixes/prefixes, bench crafting the rest. and sure you don't need all that in poe1- you can chaos spam as well- how EXCITING! *barf*
