How Secrets of the Atlas Launch Went

I find it very insulting that there isn't a single word about how the MacOS client is completely non-functional after the update.

If you want I can help you to install windows on your mac.
It's not the first time we've experienced a DDOS attack during launch, but it sure is the first time where COMs have been so bad.

Nothing heard from you Friday, Saturday, Sunday or even Monday; it's Tuesday, before you even acknowledge the problem.

Fair that you have no solution, but your crisis communication strategy has quite frankly gone in the wrong direction if it does not allow for a tweet or two once the issue is confirmed.

Great Expansion. Welcome back GGG!
So if every each time we are going to hear about "DDoS" attacks and that's it, I think it would be fair from your side to put huge tooltip on login screen with such info:

Dear Exile
We are facing DDoS attack, which cause bunch of disconnects and poor performance.
Consider postpone your playing session, as you will be very likely to lose your maps, loot, HC character etc.
We are sorry

Period.

Months of ddos huh

You see, other than those who has incomplete brain function like the clinical insanes or the retards in a medical definition, people don't do things without benefit, there is always something for you to gain thru an action you chose to do, you might be wrong about what you will get but still there is a logical reason.

Who can benefit from POE being ddos'd? There is no one, the only other game that competes with POE's player count, is POE2, no other game in this genre is even close to be a competitor, and almost all of them running a very different release schedule to POE, around POE to be exact, sabotaging servers here ain't gonna drive players to play diablo like duh, if any game were to receive ddos attack, it should be "the other" games, those games compete with each other.
...

You forget what kind of audience poe was attracting all this time, and how GGG were treating their players:)

Poe is grindy, aspirational, but highly volatile, punishing, and unfair environment. People willing to push through all of it are proud, tenacious, spiteful, and capricious. If you ban them for, say, publicly abusing another money printing exploit, it would be a "logical" enough reason to get some revenge.

Then there is GGG who always stands ready to nerf what players discovered (with major collateral damage), but barely get around to buff underperforming skills of fix age-old QoL issues. Don't even mention account investigation department, look into "help and information" here, you'll see a lot of pissed off people waiting 3+ months to get their accounts back.

At the same time there are numerous tech-savvy people here, having access to a DDOS machine isn't so rare as you think. Maybe GGG's karma has finally gotten to them:)

good points, but we still have nothing but their word for it being DDOS, and frankly even if it was, there are ways they could handle it so the impact on the player is lesser. Not losing progress, is something they could do, if they bothered. That can be handled server-side, even if the server gets knocked off the net from a "DDOS".

also; for the record, the latest ban for moneyprinting wasnt an exploit. They had to do something, but it was 100% working as written on the items they put in the game. They were able to track down and remove that currency from the game, but banning them was not reasonable, or fair. The mistake was theirs.

There was massive network shutdown one day before the league’s launch. Something related to Cloudflare afaik (NOT SURE, YOU CAN CORRECT ME IF YOU WANT).
In addition to that people from many regions (China, Russia, probably some ex-CIS states, Iran etc) are having their own “inner” restrictions which affects both abilities to connect to the servers and connection stability.
As for “big streamers” Im pretty sure most of them use paid VPNs which could potentially solve many network-related issues.
Im not defending GGG here but I would like to mention they cant directly control how “the Internet works” especially from New Zealand.
Yes, Im affected by these issues too: couldn’t even launch the game on day 1, was getting disconnections every few minutes on day 2, still having disconnection like every second map, playing in party almost impossible, got some new memory related bug which crashes the game to desktop after recent patch.

Here is couple thoughts on the matter:
1) Make it like it is in POE-2: when you leave from the map via portal or disconnect the portals remains open, you only lose portal(s) if you die and resurrect (so no infinite attempts).
2) Make something about how instances work in the game so disconnections/rollbacks wont kill the instance entirely. Its bad when you lose a divine orb from rollback. Its much worse when you lose all the portals as well (especially on the league start when you don’t have plenty of maps).
3) Make some alternative update servers on different platforms. Like if someone cant connect to primary update server, the client pick next one from the list.
4) Please communicate with us. When you cant even log in in the game on the league start and Support answers with autoreplies they don’t have the resources available to help… this is really disheartening (yes, I do understand they in fact cant help with something and don’t blame them but for many people it probably feels almost offensive). Maybe you should hire some more Support specialists.
Thanks.

We lose everything in poe2 as well, when we DC in this manner as well.

Example that happened to me:

Juice up a region with 4 towers, including the tab that makes maps usable twice if they are irradiated. Start the corrupted nexus to convert the region to juicy cleansed maps. Get dced in the map.

Not only is the map dead, the portals are gone, but the effects on the map are gone too, so the double try is gone, the nexus effect is gone too. The region can no-longer be cleansed since the nexus is gone to DC.

I know my character didnt die during the DC, since my omen didnt fire and i lost no exp. However aside from the loss of exp and omen, the effect of a DC is the same.

POE2 only protects you from crashes, or client-side DCs. It does nothing if its the server DC-ing you. You lose everything.

i would love more POE2 QOL in POE1
let me ask you ONE question:

How is it possible that you are the ONLY ONE gaming company that have such problems with DDOS ?

There must be more behind this.
