GGGs reasoning on not making a SFL?
" Why you expect SFL to solve your problems? Does world rotate around yourself, if something doesn't affect you in a better sense, why render it as unnecessary? It should be sad being such a self-centric person. No longer a forum dweller, please use PM for contact purposes.

"I don't; I had some minor gripes about self-found before, but I feel Ambush has done a good job of addressing most of my issues with it (with the exception being the strong incentive to hoard orbs). I do, however, think it's important that it solve the problems of those advocating for it. At this point, I do not expect that. You need to understand something: I have never believed the people advocating SFL are jumping at shadows. When people say the game has a disease, I actually tend to believe them. What I disagree strongly with is the idea that what SFL supporters propose will actually solve anything. At best, I imagine a pseudorandom reshuffling which creates about as many problems as it solves; at worst, I imagine a series of blunders worsening the game. I also often disagree about which game systems are to blame for the problems; for example, I don't think trading is the biggest culprit here; you guys don't really want to trade, so I don't think it's problems within trading itself which are causing your disgruntlement. well theres good points on to make a self found league and not to.
for me i dont like calling it a self found league.. the league part makes me uneasy on not to make it. mostly just a sever where i can play in my own and hunt for good rares and items to make a collection. but anyways i will probly look through the thread and pick out the reasons not to make one. will start off with chris view on it. for the most part it seems that people who play on ambush and the normal leagues just want the population of there leagues to go down. if anyone has some good points on not making one let me know. not looking to argue or change your view on it. thanks |

" Yes we hate trading, that means trading is probably not the problem here....? Seriously I used to respect you, but you appear to have become so arrogant that you've decided only you know the true answer to why WE are unhappy with the game. I'm still waiting for your response to my previous post, I thought we had a good discussion going but you backed out for some reason... Surely you didn't run out of things to say did you? Gameplay options are evil!
All options must be removed! I am also suggesting removal of HC leagues, races and even temporary league options!! PS: if anyone disagrees with that FACT (it is not an opinion, because every opinion of mine is a fact!), feel free to ask me to produce strawman arguements to prove my point. " It's not a private server, it's a public server. And second it's exactly the same principle as all other leagues. I don't see a difference. i use a secret account because i am a politician that doesnt want the NSA to know i play poe.

"Okay, you hate trading... so you immediately jump to the potentially erroneous conclusion that removing it is the solution. This doesn't make a lot of sense, because trading is — and I'm using the most literal sense of the word here — optional. Here are some things to consider. Let's say you hate instant, chicken-flavored ramen noodles; however, you feel forced to eat them. The solution to this problem is not to prevent the sale of instant ramen noodles; this would probably just make the situation worse. The real issue in this case would most likely be trouble budgeting, or a lack of awareness of other very affordable foods. The same thing can be true with trading. If various elements within the game are causing you to feel forced to trade, removing trading might not solve the problem; it might just remove your last-resort solution to a different problem, and make the situation worse. Is the problem really trading itself, or is it a push to trade? If it's the latter, the solution doesn't lie in changing trading at all; it lies in changing things outside of trading which push you towards it. It's also possible that you don't have instant ramen noodles in general, you just hate the chicken flavor. Perhaps this is the only flavor you've been offered. By making changes to the ramen itself, you might actually find something you enjoy. The same can be true with trading. Hating trading now does not necessarily mean you'll hate it forever. Find a new way to trade — perhaps through discovery of a currently existing option you hadn't considered, or perhaps by the game changing to create a new one for you — and perhaps you'll actually enjoy it. If you really think about it, prohibiting the sale of ramen noodles wouldn't really do much of anything to fix your problem. If you don't like them, and some external force isn't forcing you, you can simply not buy them. It's not like the supermarket owner is holding a gun to your head. I feel the same is true with trading. I simply don't see it as the real culprit here, despite all the hate it receives. I firmly believe the problems stem from the game itself, specifically its itemization — that is, how rare affixes and uniques are designed (this is a separate issue from how often they drop). I think a lot of the dullness of both loot finding and trading stems from itemization dullness where it's all too easy for one item to be strictly superior to another. This doesn't mean I think things are horrible. It just means I think they're flawed. Overall, I consider the itemization of the game to be satisfactory, but definitely not on a "wow awesome" level. I think this because I consider trading in the game to be satisfactory, but definitely not on a "wow awesome" level. In my heart, I really hope this is what Chris meant when he said the economy was the most important aspect of the game to him. A story about that: When I was in the US Army, they essentially told me that the most important aspect of my suitability to the job was the ability to run 2 miles in 17 minutes. By itself, the running standard seems kind of arbitrary, but it serves as an indicator for overall physical fitness, and in that sense it's not particularly crazy. In the same way, I don't think it's particularly insane to look to the health of the economy as the most important thing, providing it is done in the spirit of measuring the overall health of all itemization in the game. Which means it's not really the most important thing, but instead the means of measurement of the most important thing. Which is still pretty damn important. Well, that was a nice segue from Answer 1 to Answer 3. To cover Answer 2, I honestly hope to run into people who can challenge my assumptions with logic I find irrefutable and thus convince me to adapt my positions. I'd rather be right than wrong, and although I admit there's some ego to be overcome, I try to be open about changing my opinion when truly defeated by logic. That said, you might be a little annoyed that I do unto others as I would have them do unto me; perhaps the Golden Rule wasn't meant to apply to eccentrics. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. " I think I understand what you mesn here, and I agree; since a SF player doesn't trade - as a mindset - trading is not a problem, true. The problem is that PoE is designed around trading! Economy is king. In a SFL , no economy, no trading, things could be designed different. Things I'd like to see in a SFL ( and cannot be in a league with trading): - increased droprates of chaos orbs and exalted orbs (the latter a lot!!), removal of mirrors, others orbs and item droprates can stay where they are now. All the orbs would be used for crafting, remember - a somewhat smaller mod pool, made ( at least partially) consistent with itemlevel - more crafting and way less gambling with chromes, jews and fusings That's what I'd love, than PoE could really shine imho! Why I'm still playing? Because nevertheless PoE is a very good game... "Metas rotate all the time, eventually the developers will buff melee"
