That's not the point for most.

The reason I don't play melee is because spamming shit like MS and enduring cry is absolutely terrible. It's not fun for me to do as a melee character.
Please Chris dont kill Purity... consider one of the alternative right here...

You don't get it? I have level 1 CwDT (req 31 lvl) and few gems with level 17-18 (req 62-63). To use CwDT as support I'll need to take it to 18 level! And some time age I've just downgraded it from lvl 10 to lvl 1 with scours!


So? You have had a lot of time essentially exploiting an oversight in GGG's balancing, congratulations on your good fortune, now you will have to run catacombs a few times to get it leveled, this is hardly a game breaking tragedy.


EXPLOIT?! How much do you follow this game? Obviously not much.. Let me guess, you came from D3.. Figured! Chris Wilson, the lead developer of Path of Exile, showed off Cast when Damage Taken gem during the first build of the week for season 2 as having it at level 1 linked with Molten Shell. He then had a second Cast when damage taken gem that was leveled linked with something else. SO how the hell are we exploiting the game by mimicking how he showed us the gem worked??? Think before you make accusations, bud.

I personally use 4xCwdt gems but i still don't feel that the nerfs are such a big deal. There are still many ways to utilize it:

* Get loads of HP or ES and get rid of all armor, evasion and block.
* Link it to an additional skill (CwDT->Spelltotem->The Skill you want to cast)
* Use low level gems (Doesnt matter too much for many curses etc) and/or curse on hit.

The only skill which is a bit hard to cast via CwDT is Molten Shell. Low life can still use "Cast when Stunned" though.
Wow, no change to Cleave? didnt GGG notice how dead this skill is?
Another huge balance change to a gem during an ongoing ladder season.

The sad part is that everyone will keep on using codt because thats the only alternative to pre-release auras.
There is no viable alternative to fill those empty sockets with, except for codt.
Regardless of how shitty the gem is, people will use it, and considering GGG´s false understanding of why gems are being used by so many people (its not because it is OP, its because there is no alternative), they will probably nerf it until the gem vanishes.
Prove of their false understanding? Everyone uses purity, thus they nerfed it.
Why was everyone using purity? Because there was no other 40% aura.

People use 1 or 2 attack gems and support them (+ curses). That leaves several empty sockets in your gear.
Filling them up with other attack gems is pointless.
The only thing you can fill them up with is either auras or trigger gems.
GGG changed auras to be heavily limited, thus there are a lot of empty sockets even if you use auras.
This leaves only trigger gems to fill up those empty sockets.
All trigger gems suck (for most builds anyways... some niche builds can make use of other trigger gems i guess), which is why codt is the only option to fill up those sockets with.

Regardless of how much they nerf codt, its the only option.
They need to realize that diversity stems from the fact of having different options.

If old auras were still there (7-10 auras per person), people would have to make a tough decision between codt and auras (because of socket limitation).
Do they use 1 codt + 5 auras? 2 codt + 2 auras? 3 codt? 7 auras?
Thats diversity right there.
They limited auras and implemented only 1 viable other option, the codt gem.

If you give someone 100 dollars, how can you possibly expect that they are going to buy something that costs 120 dollars? (aura problem: all auras cost 60%, 2 auras = 120%).
There is only one combination of goods in the shop that cost 100 dollars combined, thus thats what most people are going to buy. (60% aura + purity = 100%).

If we were to imagine that phase run was still in the game on top of old auras, we would have to make a decision between codt with everything (molten shell + enduring+ curse + totem + phase run) + 2 auras. Or codt with only 3 of the above mentioned spells + 4 auras. Or codt with only 1 of the above mentioned spell +6 auras.
Instead GGG is removing diversity, implement only 1 viable alternative, and then wonder why everyone is using it. Then they piss off everyone by nerfing the only alternative they offered.

The item drop quantity and rarity for Map bosses has been increased.
While playing End-game Maps, you are now more likely to find higher level Maps.

'Bout time. Nothing was more frustrating than killing map bosses for a massive pile of blues, then jumping to Piety and getting an inventory and a half of rares. Map droprate boost is nice too, although I'm not sure how much I like it just because 66 maps are a ton of fun for me.

That said, hooray! CoDT is (mostly) dead; long live Cast when Stunned.
