Build variety my ass. Game has too many arbitrary and unnecessary restrictions.
Part of this
is that GGG is aiming for a more popular, more balanced game, than PoE1, for better and worse. Part of this is that the game is still in beta : I have already ran into a couple of issues where things just don't combine the way the game help popups themselves say they ought to, for these I just make a thread and move on : it makes sense that the devs would focus on the most obvious interactions first. |

So you're just mad at the game because you don't know how to make good builds? Or do you expect every random build slapped together without any rhyme or reason to be top tier? There are tons of very strong builds besides deadeye, you just need to swallow your pride and start off the base build of someone who know what he's doing then tweak things to your preferences.

" I get what you are saying but the its still early access/beta excuse goes out the window when they are treating it like full releases and even stated the same as well. You cant use both at the same time and flip flop when it benefits you. If GGG is aiming for a more balanced game, they sure as hell are not showing it. I would really like to see since launch what % of each ascendency has made it to lvl 70. Not just season per season but overall as well. Deadeye will most likely be at least 50%. That means in almost a year, a single ascendency has dominated and there are several that cant break 1%. There is no attempt of balance there. If there was, chalupa monk and chrono would be god tier this patch to try and get their numbers up. |

" Chronomancer has some great builds. That's true even if almost nobody plays them. SSF Rise of the Abyssal Ice Strike Invoker, high survivability and fast clear speed. Deprioritize armor and resistances; prioritize crafting a weapon and faster start of ES recharge. Build is shown at level 47, end of Act 3. It tore through Act 3 like butter.

Sad but true.
Even worst, if your ascendancy is not meta, you have very few builds that can work, because mandatory forced choices for power pushes us away from creativity. The reverse is true, if your ascendency is actual meta, you can afford to sacrifice some power for variety in your build. For example: - My invoker, who is seen in patch 0.3 as average, maybe little above average tier, I could try out so many different builds if I wanted to, I just like to play him as a classic cast on crit Comet + melee, and some others attack skills for fun, it's good enough and fun. - My Chayula is the opposite. I tryed so many different builds with expensive items... So far the only two builds that worked are the classics, shattering palm + melee, or full flicker. And both are average anyway. TLDR: Either you are an Archer/mage, or you are stuck. |

I understand your frustration when creating a build and it seems to go sideways.
Keep in mind that the game is still in development and probably 50% or less complete. You are likely trying to play a build that just doesn't have enough to support it yet. This was the same case for chaos builds in 0.1 and 0.2. Now there are tons of chaos related things you can do. The devs just need time to be able to create, release, and balance everything. With that, I think it is unfair to say there are too many restrictions in the game in general and that there is no build variety. It is clear you didn't play the first two leagues if this is your honest opinion. For that specific build currently, sure there may be too many restrictions, but don't extrapolate that to the whole game. Deadeye for example is simply too powerful and is too flexible IMO. Essentially any build with projectiles can do well with deadeye. I think you also may be unfairly insinuating that the devs force you into or away from certain builds with restrictions. They do have to make sure the game is relatively balanced. In doing so they do try to control the things that can self-perpetuate damage. Hence the nerf to the herald skill after 0.1 which allowed a single hit to screen clear due to the heralds procing themselves and each other. Your issue with this build fits in the same category IMO. |

" No chance in hell it's that high : considering the typical drop-off in video games, and hack'n'slash more specifically, about half of the players have likely never made it past Geonor. It's probably higher when counting characters instead, but still. But maybe you meant instead : « What % of lvl 70+ characters are Deadeye ? » (SoftCore, and including deleted ones.) I kind of agree with what you are saying, but you got to go with what the skill tree offers you to begin with.
Personally, I feel all the negatives that come with cool stuff is just annoying and unpleasant. shoot more arrows, but they shit ton less damage trololol. and so on and so on. it would be one thing if it was just the low level versions that had small negatives that would eventually fizzle out at higher level. One of my personal most disliked kind of things is the "have lots of energy shield but only 1hp" node. It's stupid, any toes dip in a poison or chaos pool and your dead. unless you got specific items. But if you need specific items to use it, why is it on the tree to begin with and not on the item itself, it's a wasted node that could be something cool that could be used in a few different ways, instead of a very-very-very specific node that only serves one purpose... |

are you a "casual" PoE gamer like me? back before PoE2 was not even announced, I'd be giving PoE a try one or two times a year, when I'd come back, I'd look at my old characters that were kinda stuck at a wall, and realize I'd have support gems that did not even work with the gems I had them with lol.
Yesterday, I shopped around for some new rings to get my resists caped, and got one with +30% chaos damage on it. I got a poison build, I thought it was going to jump my DMG by 30%. It frekin reduced it somehow. I still don't know how, got rid of the old gear so I can't analyse it in detail. Like a commenter on the thread said, part of doing your own build is trying things out, including a lot of mistakes. |

" The one that also makes you immune to Chaos damage (and, in PoE2, bleeding as well) ? |
