Here is why I don't believe it's a DDOS attack.
as soon as I read DDOS I just rolled my eyes so hard.
Nothing but a company that doesn't have the manpower/resources to run 2 live service games at the same time. Also POE is so niche who would even benefit from a DDOSing them. [Removed by Support] R.I.P. my beloved P.o.E. Last edited by JC_GGG#0000 on Jun 19, 2025, 12:21:55 PM

There can be several different scenarios in code execution that can lead to a crash. For example, one possible cause of crash is not checking for null pointers in C++.
Maybe someone found a precise (but difficult to detect) way of crashing server? Usually crash fixes are quick because you look at the log and know what and where to fix. I can imagine someone trading a mirror to their alt. Alt goes offline (char saved with mirror). And then main char crashes the server. Rollback and mirror duplicated. Pretty far fetched lol but was a valid hack in D2. |

I agree in that I cannot see why anyone would DDoS hammer *all* servers for this long, it's not cheap and and it serves no purpose.
Only possible thing would be if there was duping cheat that used rollbacks (happened a lot in some old mmo's), and it also crapped the servers for other players. But that should be easily identified because the amount of rollbacks would be piling on certain accounts all the time. That is, if there are actual server logs for that like every single online game should. |

" Spite. I have been on the internet for long enough to see DDoS attacks for the most petty reasons. And yes, even ones lasting months. People will go burn down not only bridges but the whole town just out of spite. Could be something as minor as someone getting banned over RMT. On the other hand, imo its unlikely that its DDoS in the traditional sense. I would reckon they are calling it DDoS because its similar to it, but its just giga juicing parties stressing the fuck out of servers, which results in a kind of DDoS attack. I think in one interview they already talked how much pressure this type of farming puts on the servers, and that they do have mitigating measures put in place, but it still takes a lot more server power to cater to those parties, when the server could be servicing multiple parties otherwise. |

" I have seen people DDoS private server with 100~ people because someone lost a PvP event. Not everyone on the internet is nice. |

Between spite and incompetence, we have way more evidence of the later than the former.

A reasonable solution would be to use the streamer reserved server, and share it out with everyone to offset the server load. They've had their little advert at league start with perfect lagless gameplay when everyone else is battling 10000 ping constantly, now streamers can play like the paying customers and supporters now that the casual lookers have moved on, and the load can be lightened.
Better yet, people who purchased supporter packs only, get the streamer server. |

" But their policy keeps buffing party play, doesn't? Unless they benefit more from it ofc |

Ddos for 7 Days in a row? Yeah ofc and the Earth is flat and Santa is real.
Maybe they are Just the Most useless company to exist. Finally the Diablo devs can be Happy because they are Not the worst anymore. |
