Here is why I don't believe it's a DDOS attack.

To me, the "strangest" thing here, is that I've switched between 4-5 EU servers since league start, and it's the same shit on all of them. Are all data centers in all of EU under constant DDoS attacks?

I don't really play many other online games these days, but is it actually the same story with ALL(!) online games in EU?
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
It called not wanting to hire out more servers. They are running two games now. Ive never personally crashed this much since I started playing POE.

I had one or two a week since the start of the year in POE1. When Ive been playing a lot. But this league its all the time. Ive lost so many maps its crazy. Only been lucky enough on a few sales to cover all the lost maps.

But I didnt play today because the other day I just had enough. Can only handle so many rollbacks. Even more so when you do get something good to only crash then lose it.
Don't think it's DDOS. My reason simply is (and this just happened), I was in a map and ping / latency started to go up. I was sure it would disconnect as per usual, and I stopped running around to wait the dc. It went to 60k and lasted like almost 2 mins. But, the game didn't disconnect me and came back suddenly. After that, it was all good again.

Also, in most cases you can log back in after dc. Now, if it was DDOS, why would it suddenly stop? You telling me you mitigate / ban all IPs or they stop nuking? Not likely. Also, banning DDOS IPs (server level) doesn't really resolve the problem completely. The traffic still comes through. Router level bans are also kinda hard. ISP needs to do lots of crap. Now this is (usually) automated, but depending on the service levels etc.

Anyways, pretty sure this is (again) something silly, like we had years ago on one launch, where someone decided to raise database memory limits, and it crashed the server (with high load) every 10-15 minutes. See any similarities here?

EU servers are fine when it's night time (mostly), and NA servers too. But, both actually disconnect during specific times.

Anyways, just my opinion.

I actually have a theory on what might be happening, and they might be using DDOS as an excuse to cover up a major fuck-up.

Here goes: I think it's the Mercenaries. Quite literally.

Just think about it for a second. Auras, damage calculations, you name it, now have to be done for a Mercenary and a player, as basically everyone and their grandmother are now running a Mercenary. Only a relatively small percentage (personal assumption) of players was doing party play, but now everyone is doing it.

And since Mercenaries essentially act like another player, the effective "player base" is now doubled, which - in theory - is causing massive server wide issues. If they didn't account for that scenario, this might be the problem.

Remember, they had to change aura calcs for Minions back in the day because of this very issue, in particular SRS and Vaal Skellies. SRS numbers literally got nerfed from 50 to 20 for this reason and Skellies got nerfed too, iirc. Or something like that. Can't remember the specifics.

Also, they added this item:

Good luck calculating poisons for 40+ minions per player, against juiced packs of tanky mobs.

There's no need to overthink because what is happening is intentional and orchestrated by certain people. It is ridiculous and harms both GGG and us regular players. If you've played PoE2 even a little sweaty you'd know how some people there "crafted" their mirror items. Doubt it can be solved reliably or effortlessly else it'd already had been.

If you guys are rollingback on US servers, you got infrastructure issues. Location of where the actual problem lies is anyone's guess, but it's between you and a server. We've had lag that's come and went, a few disconnects on extended hangs, but no rollbacks. "It's lag I've never experienced before on PoE." I had that thought and next day they come out saying DDOS. Makes sense to me.

If you are in a stream with several people and multiple servers go down at the exact same second then that is a clear indicator for a DDOS.

For anyone who doesn't believe that... go ahead and explain the simultaneous individual servers crapping out at the exact same moments.

If they were staggered, or randomly happening then it would be an indicator for another issue, since they happen at the same time though it's a extremely high chance of a DDOS.

As for general crappy server performance: Yes, that was the case, nothing said against that, the setup from GGG struggles clearly. But that doesn't mean the DDOS can't be on top of those issues which need to be addressed anyway.

Except it wasn't simultaneous. I had to disable friend online/offline notifications because those were creating a rather constant stream of notifs, even more annoying than the "x is the first to y" chat notifs.

Nah. I play a variety of coop stuff with an rl friend, and we never have issues like these.
