Here is why I don't believe it's a DDOS attack.

At the end of the day it is the easiest excuse to make up for shitty server maintenance. As the other guy said with his tin foil hat comment but yeah I also do not believe them with this. They got so much hate for all the bs that happened lately I think they are scared of showing their decline in what they do.

I'm from EU, tried to play on Washington server and it was good, 0 disconnection / rollbacks etc ... until it was morning on east coast...
So it's not DDOS, just crappy / undersized / shared with poe2, servers. Btw just got disconnected again right now, by chance no rollback and objective completed, but unable to finish this pretty juicy map, so annoying. |

Yeah no DDOS attack for sure, servers were already crappy before the league launch. You could feel the difference if u tried some settlers or even ssf start testing.Too many freezes and much lag.
Also tinfoil hat, it feels like the game runs a cutter on loot. I remembered some complains in global 40/40 from people getting rollback on their mirror drop during scourge, archnemesis and affliction. Perhaps now with more loot generated from the mercs the cutter rollbacks far more often. |

If you are in a stream with several people and multiple servers go down at the exact same second then that is a clear indicator for a DDOS.
For anyone who doesn't believe that... go ahead and explain the simultaneous individual servers crapping out at the exact same moments. If they were staggered, or randomly happening then it would be an indicator for another issue, since they happen at the same time though it's a extremely high chance of a DDOS. As for general crappy server performance: Yes, that was the case, nothing said against that, the setup from GGG struggles clearly. But that doesn't mean the DDOS can't be on top of those issues which need to be addressed anyway. GGG balance is like getting a pizza which is burnt on the sides, raw in the middle and misses the most of the toppings.
Then upon sending it back you get a raw side, burnt middle and enough toppings to drench everything in grease. Everything fixed but still broken. |

100% not DDOS causing the issues. Unless, they are counting the increased player count to be DDOSing themselves because of poor scaling load balancers and code.
Imagine how the DDOS will magically solve itself in a week or two when player counts drop again... External DDOS is a thing that happens to most game servers all the time, but there are protections in place by all providers and it is very, very rare that these have any impact. I would prefer they tell the truth than lie. I would also prefer they fix the code to not have huge rollbacks, always to the player's detriment. If you lose a map due to DC, give it back. If a high value currency item drops, SAVE the character state immediately. |

" The important takeaway here is "we dont want to put in any effort to fix it". Even if this really is triggered by DDoS then they still can do something. DDoS cant on their own make game instance servers crash or anything of the sort. This is only possible due to bad system design, bad provider or bad code. All of these are fixable with effort/will. Edit: GGG leadership is lacking is the real big issue. They need a proper CEO and the current leadership should be limited to in-game stuff. Edit 2: Fixed typo No wonder it's lost, it's in the middle of the jungle! Last edited by Zrevnur#2026 on Jun 18, 2025, 4:36:06 PM

Just curious if anyone has any insight into what potential gain or motive someone would have launching a DDOS attack on gaming servers at all.
Would this be a competing gaming company attempting to drive players away from Path of Exile games? I can't really see that being the case but maybe there is some aspect of how someone could benefit from certain servers being down. Would it be to gain a foothold advantage by playing on a separate server to advance farther in the game in order to sell items and currency in the game for real world transactions? I'm just sort of confused why this sort of thing would be worth someone spending time and money just to cause lag or downtime on certain servers when there is many to choose from and its not like it was all but one server or a significant number of them at once.. Seems like a strange thing to attempt to do. |

To me, the "strangest" thing here, is that I've switched between 4-5 EU servers since league start, and it's the same shit on all of them. Are all data centers in all of EU under constant DDoS attacks?
I don't really play many other online games these days, but is it actually the same story with ALL(!) online games in EU? Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

It called not wanting to hire out more servers. They are running two games now. Ive never personally crashed this much since I started playing POE.
I had one or two a week since the start of the year in POE1. When Ive been playing a lot. But this league its all the time. Ive lost so many maps its crazy. Only been lucky enough on a few sales to cover all the lost maps. But I didnt play today because the other day I just had enough. Can only handle so many rollbacks. Even more so when you do get something good to only crash then lose it. |
