Steam is going balistic

being able to refund would be dope, +1 to that guy

Why?

I'm surprised you have such patience mixed with your wisdom, Jakker. I probably lose my patience a bit too quickly with the naive and ignorant folks (maybe just on the internet though). Props to you for being civil. You teach us all a good lesson
Jakkar 0.20 is great, a completely new and reformed man/woman compared to Jakkar 0.10. I feel like it's that scene from LoTR with Gimli and Legolas at Helm's Deep...
well, bro did get sent to narnia for a hot minute
Refunding is a nice idea but I wanna be able to experience PoE 2's downfall first hand
I strive to be on your level my guy. " I was there since the beginning, and left seeing it all burn down in flames"

And the thing is if they want to make a Souls like game, they can go ahead and Im sure many ppl would like it. But please finally decide it and publicly announce it as such so that everyone knows what game they buy. And had they done that (say that they want to make a slower, souls like game and not an ARPG), many ppl from the PoE1 or other ARPGs community would not have bought it as they would have known that this game is not for them. Thus, much of the current uproar could have been avoided but also player numbers might have not been that high in the first place. From my personal POV they still dont know what game they really want to make. It feels like a clash of visions between Jonathan (the ruthless and souls lover) and even Mark (who seems like a more classic ARPG guy to me) and the rest of the development team. I hope they sort this out soon and commit to one clear direction. Then the ppl that are not happy with that will leave and the ones that are will stay. The dust will settle.
Nailed.
Well, the entire comment was good, but the last part especially.

Its actually insane the more I think about it that the game has this problem NOW. You would think when you develop a game and start with no lines of code and simply have a meeting with your head developers in a meeting room with a whiteboard that the first question would be: "What kind of game do we want to make?" After 5 years of development and 4 months into early access to still have not really answered this question for themselves and know what kind of genre your game is supposed to be is pretty ridiculous.

As for me: I didnt play PoE1 sadly. I bought PoE2 because I saw some gameplay videos of 0.1 which clearly indicated its a D2-ish ARPG. I never expected a new PoE1 as I dont even know what that was like. What I did expect though was an ARPG. I looked it up on steam and it said its an ARPG. I watched some more videos about analyzing the game in depth and it was clear the devs intended it to be an ARPG. Had the game looked souls-like and did not have the ARPG tag, I might not have bought it right now as I was in search specifically for a new ARPG. 0.1 also felt like a D2-style ARPG the vast majority of times, hence the expectation was that the slow, clunky and sloggish elements would be patched out and we would be left with the good things of 0.1.
But uno-reverse, they patched all the fast-paced, fluent things out of the game and left us with even more slow and clunky stuff, introducing easier stunchains and one shots, more combo-based gameplay, buffing all mobs and nerfing both damage and mobility of almost all builds which results in a 3-4x slower progression than before as indicated by campaign completion times (I personally went up from 10-12h to 33-35h playing a Witch) and the average map running time (~2-3 minutes in 0.1 with a good build vs. 10-12 minutes in 0.2 with anything other than LS huntress). In addition (because 3-4x slower is not enough), the loot is much sparser, effectively slowing down your character progression by a huge factor, even though you could spend hundreds of hours in 0.1 on one character already without being really optimized and done.

If this was communicated before, ppl like me would not have been disappointed so much because we wouldnt even have bought the game in the first place. The way things went though, I feel deceived because while the basis shouted from the mountain tops that this is a new ARPG, the direction the development of this is going is definitely not an ARPG. Hence, I feel frustrated and sad.

And now... imagine how it would feel like if:

It's 2019, you are a "Path of Exile" enjoyer, and at Exilecon, Chris Wilson announces "Path of Exile 2".
BUT... not as a new, separate game. No. As the "Path of Exile Expansion 4.0".
He tells you that they want to modernise mechanics, graphics, animations, and add a new campaign you can play through, but you end up in the same end game (mapping) like everyone else.

Then, after you have already supported GGG for many years, it's Exilecon 2023.
Oh boy, you are hyped to see what they did in all the years with your beloved game.
BUT... "Oopsie daisy exiles, PoE2 will be its own game now, thanks for your money tho!".

Fast forward to 2024, the time period before PoE2 EA launch.
Exile: "GGG, the game looks suspiciously different, especially slow, what's up with that!?"
GGG: "Don't worry, we only slowed the gameplay overall a bit for the meaningful combat, but if you are in end game - you still will be as fast as it is in PoE1"

Now: "tHe ViSiOn!!1!"

The Vision is out there! It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop... ever, until you open your wallets!

I was totally happy with 0.1 and thought that game will have a bright future. After all this trash in 0.2 and "Vision" and white mobs oneshotting you with capped resistances and 3.5k hp+ on T15 maps - I want my money back and I don't believe in them. I don't believe that they're in control of the situation and know what to do. This 30$ I'd better spend on something else.

Just believe me, if the would allow people to refund, they will lose 60% of money earned within 24 hours.
