Why Does PoE2 Keep XP Loss on Death?

You don't lose anything other than time permanently when you die in most soulslike games. For the times that you do, it is usually around 10-20 minutes of playtime tops to regain the lost souls. Not multiple hours.

I'm currently at level 95, and when I die with an Omen of Amelioration in my inventory, I lose the time it takes to complete one map at most.

I'd rather have that than a game where everyone can jump into a juiced T15/T16 map and get an infinite number of tries to complete it without repercussions. We already have that in Simulacrums Stage 1, and it's the worst. What motivation would you have to improve your build and gear if you could complete any content without it?

When will people like you, trotting out the same tired worthless argument get it through your thick skulls that there is nothing challenging about having your time disrespected.

And when will people like you understand that for some people, the appeal lies in being able to lose something? Or how do you explain the popularity of soulslike games?

Your own example defeats your point, as every souls game still allows you opportunities to reclaim what you lost in full.

Oh well, and you can't regain lost EXP on death in this game? I'm also not happy about losing the ability to use tablets on the map again if it was a one-portal map. But that's beside the point — the topic is EXP loss.
Maybe the reason a lot of ppl equate xp loss to challenge is bc in poe 1 you could blow all the way to maps in scrappy white and blue gear from the campaign. All you had to do was make sure you res was good and your skill gems were high enough so xp loss probly was the only way to introduce a challenge. But poe 2 is slowing down the combat trying to make it more multi-player friendly( at least it seems that way) and has room for more "challenge" other then xp loss. Poe 1 the way it was designed there wasn't room for other mechanics to introduce a challenge but there is in poe 2

The point is the time lost. Frankly, I find it absurd that you can potentially lose xp you earned doing several other maps from dying in an entirely different one, and depending on the level that can be hours of time lost.

In the Souls games, you can equip items to prevent the loss, and you can recover the loss too as long as you reclaim all the xp before you die again.

Well, in this game, you can equip an item that prevents 75% of EXP loss upon death. This is a big step towards addressing the complaints that 10% loss is too high. And that's also why I think it's very unlikely that GGG will move away from EXP loss in general, and it's pointless to discuss this repeatedly. This topic is as old as POE1 is ;)

And for anyone who might not know what I'm talking about:

You lose the time it takes to complete a map as well as the time/currency it cost to get the omen.

This was about loss of xp, but how does someone having infinite retries make it the worst? That is what the souls games you brought up do and people don't seem to have a problem with them. Although I guess people would be very annoyed if you had a handful of tries to fight Malenia before you had to replay the entire Haligtree to get another shot. Removing that feature would likely have been one of the first mods created.

That's true. But it's not a matter of lost hours, as many people in here are suggesting. Unless you're on your way from level 99 to 100 — which, if I had to guess, might not be the situation for most posters in here.
What about dying to bugs is a challenge?
