Why Does PoE2 Keep XP Loss on Death?
" Im curious, how did you determine its outdated? "Beidat honored the pact, though Beardat wouldn't take off Doryani’s prototype."

The real problem (that I don’t see mentioned) is how poorly optimized this game is, and that lag, freezes and constant pauses often lead to deaths that would otherwise be avoided in better circumstances.
Also, it blows my mind that GGG remains radio silent on this and just expects everyone to suffer because they through a game that makes high-end rigs/consoles literally melt. Fix the game, then I’ll accept your XP penalty - which is merely a mechanism to keep people stuck in the game. More in-game time spent, more mtx purchased. But not me…I’ve quit 3/4 seasons earlier than anticipated simply due to unplayable circumstances. I’ll accept your xp penalty when your game is no longer responsible for the majority of my deaths. |

The XP penalty on death doesn't "add challenge." It changes the entire way you play, and not in a good way. Instead of experimenting, pushing new content, or testing mechanics, you start playing like you're transporting a bowl of soup through a bouncy castle. One random glitch, one offscreen payload, one FPS hiccup and BOOM, a couple hours evaporate.
And yes, it's the same story whether it's a chill T14/T15 or a max-juiced T16. The punishment doesn't care. It's still 10% (or 2.5% with an Omen), and at 95+ that's a completely unhinged amount of time to earn back. The result is predictable: people avoid risk, avoid experimenting, avoid "fun", and then the same folks wonder why everyone is running the safest possible builds and maps. Also, the "level 100 is just a flex" argument is half true and still kind of stupid. Sure, those last passive points aren't build-defining for most setups, but they matter for a lot of people psychologically. It's the difference between "my build is done" and "my build is almost done forever." And in a game built on tinkering, that feeling counts. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it: make the penalty map-based instead of retroactively deleting progress. If I enter a map at 53%, then 53% should be my floor for that map. I can still lose the map, lose the portals, lose the juice, lose the loot potential. That's already a punishment for taking chances. But don't let one bad death erase the progress from my previous maps or my previous play session. The tricky part is party play, sure. If one person dies and "fails" the map, what happens to the rest? But that's a solvable design problem. The current system is "solved" already, it's just solved in the same way you solve a squeaky door by removing the house. |

" 100% agree. If someone fears of loosing xp becouse his target was levelling then he stays back , don't attack properly, hits from very far, don't enter boss room.... generally ruining the other players party game. It's not about skill or build ignorance issue but avoidance anything that cost him time. A valuable time that poe2 don't respect especially if you are not systematic player and have life. Furthermore is a copy paste from Poe1. What an implementation!!! If i wanted the same thing again again every decade then i should have sticked to poe1 not coming to poe1 remastered..... |

" Yep, I'm pretty casual, I refuse to use build guides, so I'm already held back. On top of that I refuse to engage with the more restrictive or slow skill mechanics like generating charges and infusions, they just don't make sense with the gameplay and punishments. It's only this league I finally managed to get enough game knowledge to just about get a couple of homebrew builds to endgame, disciple of varashta with rapid fire crossbow to ramp ruzhan for big ignites, with oil grenade's. I'm pretty proud of that one, but I have to acknowledge that it's not going to get very far, too squishy and can't clear quick enough, going to lose too much xp. So where does it get fun? I can keep trying to play my way and feel punished for it, I can follow a guide to a screen clear build and just mindlessly blast my way through a repitive endgame, or I can use a ggg approved combo build which don't even feel like they where designed for this game. They hand me parry, then disengage then a charge spender, and I look at the endgame and think, what the hell are you expecting me to do with these. There's no fun way to play the game atleast not for me it seems. |

We need the Devs to juice their fantasy and bring us innovative solution to xp loss. It's not acceptable the copy paste from Poe1. This issue should be solved in next patches. Im tired these kind of posts that highlight the problem again and again.

I want to have to retrieve my body butt ass naked when I die plus lose XP like Diablo2. Or better yet lets explode all our gear off like the original Diablo. Kids these days are soft, it's a game...play it, embrace a little challenge once in a while. The game has Omens you can use to prevent yourself from dying at all and if you do result in 75% less XP loss, I fail to see the lack of pampering here.

I just died 3x in 2min. I lost my level progress again, and again, and again. I die way too much, frankly I'm bad at games. I think the penalty should just be less but allow more survivability, I'm capped on my own ability to improve my own gear. Even buying upgrades people want 20div fir junk that's worse than what I crafted and I simply get one shotted every 40 seconds. I run around spamming the health potion constantly but I'm not exactky losing health thst can be healed, I just die instantly and it's no fun. This is the worst league I've had so far approaching 2000hrs and extra time with study and research, but I have been stuck at lvl 91 for over 40hrs of grinding. It's rather pathetic and incredibly difficult or exoensive to improve my survivability.

They should just make you buy a new copy of PoE2 if you die in the game.

" Yes, exactly. I am convinced the people clinging to it are just hanging on to a sacred cow, with no regard for how this actually plays out, and have some imaginary version in their head of why this mechanic is so "meaningful." Feedback: 0.1 https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3639607
