Hard crashing PC locks up

R7 5800x RTX 3070 Ti Win11 24H2 had a problem like yours. I tried many methods that were described here and the only one that helped was to limit the cores of the process, but then even with this method the PC began to freeze. It helped to completely get rid of the freezes by installing Windows 10 22H2 with kernel isolation disabled. Good luck.
Im also experience computer crash. CPU is going more then 120% and freeze totaly. Crash happens mostly on 2 cases :
1. Changing locations
2. Going to setting and click on set default.

I dont know how it could be connected but I noticed that crashes are more freuent in Yolo Mouse is on the tray. When I closed this application and cliced on restart settings to default computer didnt crash so often. In fact since I did it I didnt experience freeze any more. Sometime is just the game crashing itself

Me and my husband we have same configuration.
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core Processor 4.20 GHz
RAM 64.0 GB (63.1 GB usable)
NVIDIA 4070

He just have only game crashing but dont have Yolo mouse installed. This is the only diffrence in our computers.

The problem with the game crashing is clearly with the game itself.

True, but I have 2 systems, and over 40 hours in the game. I have played 39 of those hours on one system (5800x/3080, 65-watt TDP) with zero crashes, and had about 3-4 crashes an hour when trying it on my other system (7700x/4080, stock TDP).

After lowering the TDP and processer settings on the more powerful rig, my stress tests were stable with it, but it seems others aren't as lucky.

This definitely is a CPU utilization issue, and likely embedded in how the game is structured in terms of data use... and how each individual PC is handling it.

PirateSoftware, a prominent streamer, had his game nuked numerous times, and had to play with multithreading off on stream.
I have a 5800X3D an encountered this issue multiple times.
I am right now in act 1 and my pc freezed and crashed while loading new areas.
Gonna bump this every few hours until it gets properly addressed. BUMP!!!
Here same problem!
5800x3D.

Tried eco-mode in bios, limiting my cpu to 95% or limiting cores via task manager, nothing works! Tried changing ingame settings aswel but so far noting helps.

The multirendering option helps but I refuse to play at like 30fps.
At this point I have to stop playing, sick of crashing every other loading screen to have to reboot my entire system. Hopefully GGG figure out a solution soon for all of us affected.

Also affected. Intel core i5 iirc, RTX 2070, only had three crashes in maybe ten hours but after the third one I'm unable to reboot. Attempting to restore from backup now. Pray for me.

Great news for me personally. Confirmed that the bricking was apparently unrelated to the hard crash - seems to have been a loose cable to the graphics card (!). Got that resolved which boosted my confidence enough to continue playing. Have experienced one more hard crash since, while using a portal to town as many have experienced, and am attempting the fixes in this thread one by one, starting with setting a CPU max of 99%, to hopefully get better info. RTX2070, core i5 8400, Win11 24H2.

I had exact same issue with poe1. I only happend to get it because I bought a new PC. I installed newest windows image - win 11 update 24h2. And I thought my new PC is broken. But started digging and runing to reproduce this issue.

I've spent 2 days on this. What I managed to achieve is reproduction of this issue constantly in poe1 (it was before EA). What I did is I logged in, started game. 1 in 3 times this lock would happen. So that was the process. Start game, logoin, load, exit game. Then after 2-3 times it froze.
I tried full sceen, windowed, full screen windowed. All graphics modes (dx, vulkan etc) In all modes I could recrete this issue and nothing helped, it kept on freezing after 2nd or 3rd or 4th run. PC locked and it seemed that only way is to reboot the PC.

Then I tried another thing which is leave it be. When I did that the PC rebooted itself eventually and I was able to collect kernel dump which I inspected. It indicated some power related issues. But I'm not an expert here.

And I'm writing that because maybe more people can try this and collect the dump and send it to GGG for inspection.

Then I looked up this issue as my friend suggested that its related to win 11 24 update: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-24h2#3448msgdesc

At this point I installed fresh copy of win10. And the problem gone in poe1 and I also dont have it in poe2. Didn't have time to investigate more as I wanted to play :D

Specs:
Amd 5
RTX 4060
ddr5 32GB
m2 - 1TB

did you fix the issue by installing windows 10 now? or did it freeze again?
anytime a workaround appears to be successful (Vulkan, process lasso, power options), I always get a hard freeze again following a patch.

I've just now set AMD Precision Boost Overdrive from "Auto" to ECO 65 TDP and will see if that does the trick (along with Vulkan and process lasso still in place).
