Hard crashing PC locks up
Seen several threads about this. Very commonly people are using X3D chips and on windows 24h2. Not sure if theres a crash log somewhere I can upload. I'm afraid to play till this is patched. It wasn't a BSOD or CTD it was a full on pc freeze had to power it off.
Edit: These crashes are not exclusively on 24h2. Users report 23h2 and w10 crashes as well. Last edited by oGsShadow#5368 on Dec 17, 2024, 11:21:40 AM Last bumped on Jan 3, 2025, 7:56:53 AM

Yep I'm having the same issue. Happens when I change Zone. I noticed that my CPU goes to 100% and then my whole PC just freezes and I have to hard reset. Very annoying and definitely not healthy for my PC. People are complaining about this issue on the Steam Forums as well. I got a 3070 and a Ryzen 7 5800x.

Same thing is happening to me on a 5800X3D.
Edit: Made it to clearfell after a few hard resets. Now it just hangs/freezes everytime I try to load back into clearfell. Last edited by apathynow#3945 on Dec 6, 2024, 8:20:55 PM

I have the same problem on every 2. loading screen.
OS: Win11 (24H2 26100.2454) CPU: 11700k GPU: 3080 (Driver: 566.36) CPU goes 100% and my mouse barely moves. I pulled the mouse to my 2. monitor and it took 2+ minutes to switch from the game cursor to Windows cursor. alt+tab/alt+f4/ctrl+alt+del didnt worked. Only hard reset helped. Win 11 24H2, 4070 Ti Super and also a 5800 X3D. Hard crashes my machine on zone changes...
Edit: I'm using my spot on the first page to offer some help. To anyone reading this who wants a working bandaid until this is properly fixed: 1.) Use the task manager to remove PoE from a few of your threads. My CPU has 16 threads, removing PoE from 4-6 works fine. It should look like this: What does it do? PoE won't be able to lock-up all system resources, because it can't "grab" all cores. Will the game still crash? Yes there is a chance the game will still crash and it might still freeze your system, which is why it is important that you kill PoE.exe through taskmanager as soon as the game freezes. This band-aid will give you enough time to do so before your whole system freezes! 2.) If you want to go one step further, then also use BES (https://mion.yosei.fi/BES/) to limit how much performance of one thread PoE.exe is allowed to use. Open BES, click on Target, find Path of Exile and set it to -5% to -10% What does it do and why does it help? PoE will be forced to sleep every x milliseconds. Windows 11 24H2 has new Kernel code and a new scheduler, which seems to be in conflict with how PoE(2) has been programmed. By forcing it to sleep in regular intervals it does not seem to trigger a certain bug where it tries to claim more resources than are available (this is my own theory). Will the game still crash? I still had game crashes, but they weren't in loading screens. They might just have been other bugs. Will the system still lock up? I don't know. It didn't happen to me anymore since I used BES. Any other crash lets me just kill PoE.exe and restart the game. Last edited by owa#5129 on Dec 21, 2024, 1:06:08 PM
