Hard crashing PC locks up
" and we've got more crashes for other things too over here https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3597349/page/5#p25599016 GGG needs to step up here :( |

The weird thing for me is that for the first 3 days from EA launch I didn't have a single freeze or crash, and then over the past few days its progressively gotten worse and worse to the point where the game is unplayable now. I am at endgame maps (finally) and with 1-2 maps the game freezes my entire PC on loading screens. Even with 2 cores disabled for POE2 in task manager. I've tried many different settings. People say it's windows but many people with older windows versions are claiming they have the same problem. Clearly this is a issue on GGG's end.
My pc doesn't seem damaged as other games work fine (for now :/). It's a very odd issue.. would be nice if GGG could be up front and just tell us how it is. Probably some BS like d4 had where the issue is going to take some time and they don't want to admit that, but I am only assuming and I hope I'm wrong. I guess it's time to stop playing. |

I'm not trying to suggest that customers shouldn't get a working product that they paid good money for. But I seriously doubt GGG is counting that money and ignoring such a glaring flaw.
Sometimes resources are limited and not all developers can work on the same part of the code. That means you can't necessarily take a map developer and throw them on this crash issue. Just playing devil's advocate. The person or people responsible for this aspect of the codebase is probably trying their damnedest. Imagine the pressure the higher ups might be placing on them. Or maybe you've got some folks who don't care. Given the overall quality of the product I'd like to hope that's not the case. But the communication is the real issue. " use google, any guy who knows anything about tech at all can confirm this is the case lmao since when does a complete freeze to your system so bad that you have to force restart it not damage parts? maybe not the first 30 times but if you get really unlucky it can def yeet out some pieces. has happened to me before. ssd cooked. please man lets use some brain cells here |

Play the game since 7 december. I encoutered my first crash one hour ago. After rebooting the computer I restart the game and it crashed directly.

" IT IS DAMAGING HARDWARE DONT LET THEM FOOL YOU AS IVE SAID MY WATER COOLING HAS DIFFERENT IDLE SOUND AFTER 2 CRASHES NOW PEOPLES BIOS GOT RESETED ASWELL ON DEFAULT SHIT |

" I don't think they're fooling anyone but the morons that think your PC needs to literally be on fire for there to be hardware damage. |
|
" Maybe don't need to all caps spam it but it's true. People just should hold off on running the game if they're hard freezing. If you can crash to desktop it's probably okay to play... but who wants to play that bad? What scares me is excessive power consumption reducing lifespan of brand new hardware or otherwise bricking an already defective component (silicon lottery is real in 2024 still, who knew?). Gonna just second what a ton of other people are saying and throw in that maybe GGG should post a dedicated official sticky thread that condenses all of the "PC crash/crash to desktop/crash w/e" threads and comment on it directly from there. Maybe give us more info about what we should do and what they are doing? |

So far, deleting the caches (minimap, shader cache) exactly once (per session) before I start up the game has helped. I haven't had any freezes since I started doing that (went 5 hours across 2 sessions with 0 freezes). I should note I'm also playing on Vulkan renderer.
Prior to deleting caches, I had been using BES to limit -15% CPU and turning off cores 0 and 1 via TaskManager affinity, and that helped but wasn't a complete solve. I'm still doing those CPU limitation steps in addition to clearing caches, but I suspect clearing the caches before playing is what's resolving the issues. I'll experiment with only deleting the cache folders without the CPU limiting to see if I can narrow it down. Are people freezing who are only deleting the caches before starting the game? Given my limited experiences, I suspect removing the cache folders on a timer isn't necessary but I'm not sure. Last edited by cicatrix1#7952 on Dec 11, 2024, 7:26:26 PM

Unfortunately this issue is much worse with recent patch. Lots of great changes, wish I could experience them. Right now the game is completely unplayable.
