Why gate the new gems behind lab?
Because, theses days, getting every gem is silly easy. Your league starter completes act 10 and can give each and every character that follows any skill gem they need.
With this lab 'gate' players will need to farm for them and it's never a guarantee... but getting gems to feed the font will be cheap enough. Assume that the *GOOD* ones will be gated behind Uber lab, of course. And the EXP conversion which will go for *FAT* stacks of divines and now allow players to sacrifice a tier 3 enhance gem (empower/enhance, ect) to jump a character from Twilight Strand almost to endgame... except for the idiotic storyline, yet again. Patch Notes 3.15:
Fixed a bug where players believed the game was playable. This has been corrected and made retroactive. Patch Notes 3.19: Fixed a bug where players adapted to 3.15. This bug cannot be corrected, so we have implemented a 90% reduction in item access as a punishment.
I do not get your point, OP. Previously, special quality gems were gated behind heist. If anything, running heist blueprints is even less accessible to most, than running labs, so I believe that this is an overall net positive change.
I think most people disliked running labs because of its overall boring, repetitive nature and the fact that you got very little out of it, unless you ran the special offerings. Sure, it had enchants and these were good for minmaxing your build, but that's about it. This way, labs will be much more meaningful in my opinion. As it has always been the case, If you want some piece of gear tied to some content, you just have to suck it up and learn to love said content, or play a trade league and just buy the gear from someone who does. I am not good at grinding, do not have the patience for it, but I still find these gems be part of lab is a lot better and easier to access than them being in heist, and I do love and do lots of heist myself. (for a filthy casual scrub, that is :P)
" I haven't heard this Celsius vs Fahrenheit insult yet. Find it cute. The room temperature "burn" is decent as well. However, if anyone comes at you with temperature based insults, you can probably shut them up by telling them "Nah, way below room temperature, at about -75°C." Should give them something to think about. Hint: -75°C is 198°K, which is the only real temperature scale you would really want to use anyway :P
" Yeah I mean, at this point they're both gated behind something not everyone might enjoy. The great thing tho, is that helm enchant are gone, so lab service is kind of a thing of the past. (unless somehow the gem you want is sold by 0 players). But it's still overall an improvement. Taking Heatshiver as an example, how many build did need that with the right enchant? such a pain. Now you just get the damn gem and you're done.
" Damn so now we need Mageblood to finish uber lab. Player skill is getting worse and worse each league.
" no you dont need it but he was saying how super quick lab runs are. they are not unless you build your char for it or have a mageblood |
|
Uber Lab even on random character is still faster than any Grand Heist. Do you remember where "new gems" were gated before?
" i never do heist so dunno how long they took. last time i did heist was years ago |
|
" "Friction". Because having fun is bad, mkay? |

Imagine if you had to run to the end of Uber Lab, get your gem, and then fight your way back out.
