Why gate the new gems behind lab?

Won't you just buy them like every other thing that is gated behind something that you don't enjoy? It's not as if people were out here farming there own alt quality heist gems.

Who runs labs? like 3 people? so who will run off-meta build labs? like 0 people?

Like i said earlier if you randomized it would keep trade alive, but if you don't it's killing build diversity on an astronomical level.

And who did you buy your helmet enchant from? Those rumored 3 people? EVERY single player in this game runs lab at least 4 times. Thats 4 gems per every single character that was created in the league. Even if you would have 0 dedictaed lab runners thats already more than enough gems on the market.

jezus that logic is just..... you can just run lab your self 1 time and get gem you need. you know thats its not a total random thing.

Yah one time, except for the dozen other gems your off-meta build will need without even including corruptions.

helm enchants were simulacrum drops, and incubator drops, next question.

Not every player in the game runs 4 eternal labs, usually most players run a single eternal lab.

... Heist has an interesting hub system where you could literally see all the players (I'm guessing in your region?) that are currently doing heist content. It was always a low number of players specially when compared to the rest of the population.

So, why did GGG take away the alt quality gems from Heisters? Because it was a small group gate keeping the entire community with absurdly high prices.

Lab on the other hand, as unpopular as it may be is much more accessible to the general population. Further more, you can do normal lab to get what you want (assuming the weight? is low enough).

Win (kill the gatekeepers), win (make it more accessible).

Now, on the lab it self? Yeah, it's outdated. Thankfully, they said there are a ton of changes coming as soon as humanly possible given the constraints they have (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfNrSM9J7HQ).

Overall it's a win (for the community at large) and a lost to heisters.

Hesit still has drop that is gated behind it - replicas. So Hesiters you should be happy, now even less people will run Heist so you can pu replicas for even more money.
Yeah lab sucks. I only do it for the ascendancy points and that's it. Traps are the worst mechanic in the game. All this stuff is too much for me, I was just kinda learning the game after 600 hours or so. I hope POE2 doesn't get this bloated and complicated.

Lab is not complicated, it is quite the opposite. Getting your ascendancy is meant to be a thrill, so traps are usually dangerous at this point in the game for a lot of players. Entering the eternal lab and not being sure if you will make it is supposed to be part of the fun. Just nowadays players tend to get angry if they don't get spoon fed by the devs.
But if you get enough life regen/other defensive layers traps become irrelevant. With some movement speed it is a cakewalk, since the layout also doesn't change for the day.

It's still not fun even the thought of making a build for labs, but now that gems are going to be offered in all labs, should be fine.
I still like doing the labyrinth, it's fun. But then again, I do not spam the same thing over and over, I think that's where the problem lies. People get tired of things they've done too much already.

When you start thinking about "how to have fun" instead of "how to earn currency", the game opens up a lot.

I've always gone with this mindset, and the Lab always ruins the fun for an entire day of play. It's antiquated and unfun, promoting a "get enough health and defenses to ignore traps or die" playstyle.

In the end, always better to just ignore Lab until you can pay someone to run you through them all back to back, just to get it over with.
