Bex Confirms ExileCon is the Jumping-Off Point for Path of Exile 2's Marketing

It's not some magical goodwill, of which Blizzard doesn't have much, but an extremely strong marketing campaign that worked. It's easy to look at reddit, and not realize that the 600K people following the D4 subreddit are more like 5 % of the game's actual population.

Can't prove it which was my whole point, i'm not saying they are bad at marketing i'm saying there is a case for them being bad at marketing because they have a shocking advantage compared to many similar cases - you can't really tell either way but you shouldn't automatically assume they are great at marketing. If you think Blizzard don't have any goodwill or brand pull anymore you are deluded overwatch II would have been directly unsaleable as a product for a majority of developers, a cancellation for many.

I think a very convincing argument could be made that Blizzard are actually terrible at marketing but have so much brand pull its completely irrelevant.

What a statement. Blizzard marketing so terrible, that their brands, which they have created by marketing, don't need to be marketed. Wait what?

Their brand was created by marketing over time not just marketing now, imagine trying to say that Blizzard right now isn't massively weighted to the work they did in the old days its all anyone ever talks about.

If you think thats created by their recent work then I've got news for you, until D4 there wasn't any they are among the least productive developers in the world chugging along with WoW propping them up but my god their brand still has massive pull its gotten them everywhere they are. This is why they are prime candidates for merger/acquisition which Blizz is going to end up having both of by the looks of it (or maybe not)

Blizzard could release SC3 next year with a 1 month press tour and it would be the #1 selling RTS of all time guaranteed without showing the normies in times square.

Does that make them great at marketing? I'll never be convinced because i'm not convinced they could have a failure for me to judge by but Xyel has provided lots of interesting marketing tie ins I didn't know about so i'll go read and think about it some more. They do better than some that's for sure.

Also forgot to add that the success of a marketing campaign is intrinsically tied to the sales you derive from it compared to its cost, I don't know the number Blizz spent but I imagine it to be enormous - without including that you really can't judge success or failure.

Well that sucks.

So Exilecon 2023 will be more or less the same as Exilecon 2019? "Here, have a look at PoE 2, but you'll have to wait". I think it's a good thing, for them, that the tickets are sold before that post. I just don't get it, but I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed.

yeah its rather disappointing. i guess they will show more gameplay like last time...but after all this time something more would be nice

i dont know why so many ppl thought poe 2 will come later this year. i still say it will come in late 2024 early 2025.

And just like them, you're basing your prediction on nothing. She didn't say anything we didn't know already and was pretty vague with the "beta is still a while out". Beta might happen latter this year or next year, we just don't know.

She was also addressing those delusional people who thought 3.22 could be the 4.0 beta.
My Wishes, my Hopes and my Dreams...

Wishes: Poe2 will come end of 2023

Hopes: Poe2 will at least come in first half of 2024.

Dreams: Exilecon Announcement will be like "oh and just you all will know this, the next coming League will be Poe2 Beta, so we hope you all will have fun" XDDD

Three+ years after the initial Exilecon announcement, and you call it "delusional" to hope that perhaps three years of additional progress might have put a nice surprise like that within reach? =0[.]o=

Plot twist, PoE Mobile will be the focus of Exilecon!

I'm j/k of course because that would be a disaster. Just because the PoE2 launch isn't imminent doesn't mean they can't, or shouldn't, provide everyone with a ton of PoE2 information.

That doesn't seem to be what Bex was alluding too however, or else she would have said something along those lines. If it isn't more than a future PoE2 beta date, and some trailers, that's a pretty big let down.

I for one was hoping for a lot of FAQ discussion type scenarios on PoE2 because there is so much misinformation & confusion amongst the community, and outright silence from GGG in the last few years.

The messaging and expectation setting around 4.0 hasn't been great imo.

Next league will be the current 10 acts with updated PoE2 graphics, heroes, passive skill tree and skill gem rework. Basically the experience we will get when playing the "old game" when Poe2 releases.

I believe Chris Wilson mentioned, that a lot of these updates in PoE2 will be implemented before the game releases. Pretty sure he said that at exilecon 2019. Anyways, that is my prediction :D

As I understood it, the engine upgrades are not universal for PoE1. I'm sure they are in place for the shared endgame, but I wouldn't expect the old PoE1 campaign to be remastered.

I guess you are right, but new heroes / skills etc. Those have to be playable in the old campaign.

If you don't remember this thing that happened with the planet in late 2019 there's nothing I can do. If you do remember, you're the audience she was addressing.
