If republicans cared about border security they would punish the people that hire illegals and use drones not some 25 billion dollar wall we learned how to defeat well over a thousand years ago.

You have a point. Punishing rich guys who are too cheap to pay an american citizen a decent wage would be a good idea. But Trump would probably piss the wrong people off by doing so.

Drones without wall wouldn't help that much. Drones with a wall though? Pretty much perfect. And yes, hiring illegals should be illegal. Let's get all of this done.

First I wanna apologize I keep intervening in your domestic debate, although it occassionally does get the international flavor, but your domestic problems, how can I put it, well they actually ain't all that domestic. Your... demesne, it spans the globe it seems, being the Super-Power (Woa), the almighty All-Seeing Eye, ever watchful, everyone's beloved big brother, and those domestic problems tend Not to remain domestic for too long, they export themselves and pretty soon become everybody's darling, (whether everybody like it or not). Not to mention of course that your great country also happens to be something of a beacon, the modern civilized world's Mecca, don't even know if I'm allowed to use the term, am I?

I'm really genuinely interested in this debate, this conversation between... Native Americans regarding their Supreme Lord Ichimonji... er... I mean Mr President Donald J. Trump, this whole endeavor proves to be very educational, in an amusing way too, it's kinda like watching porn, I mean you don't actually get laid, but it kinda... broadens your horizons, so to speak.

Who was that great philosopher who said that with great power comes great responsibility blah blah, steaming pile of dung, I think it was Roger Waters, what a boring sod!

Anyhow, pay no heed to me, I'm just the King's Fool, me... I'm an entertainer, are you not entertained, ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAiNED?

- Got the gist Lieutenant? (pronounced: Lef-tenant)
- Aye Sir, Paris when it sizzles!

EDIT: Silly me, Native Americans are actually... Indians, and that boring sod didn't say that, he said something about a... mother that takes you under her wing, keeps you safe and warm n all that steaming pile of dung...

nani

Hush now baby, baby, don't you cry
Momma's gonna make all of your nightmares come true
Momma's gonna put all of her fears into you
Momma's gonna keep you right here under her wing
She won't let you fly, but she might let you sing
Momma's will keep Baby cozy and warm
Oooo Babe
Oooo Babe
Ooo Babe, of course Momma's gonna help build the wall

Hush now baby, baby, don't you cry
Momma's gonna check out all your girlfriends for you
Momma won't let anyone dirty get through
Momma's gonna wait up until you get in
Momma will always find out where you've been
Momma's gonna keep Baby healthy and clean
Oooo Babe
Oooo Babe
Ooo Babe, you'll always be Baby to me

Mother, did it need to be so high?

Let's see what this really means.

From CNN article
"
For the 380,000 federal employees on furlough and the other 420,000 working without pay, this means it's time to start making plans for how to pay January bills without the promise of their next paycheck as part of the government remains shutdown.

"
The Coast Guard is the only military branch that isn't paid during the government shutdown; they technically are part of the Department of Homeland Security.

"
While some federal agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency and Smithsonian museums were able to use other funds to remain open for the first week of the shutdown, as the shutdown enters week two, those funds have dried up.

The Federal Judiciary will close down if the shut down extends past 3 weeks.

The IRS and National Parks that could see some pauses or breaks in service.

National Parks will likely be impacted. Check specific parks before planning any trips.

IRS services will be impacted. If extends long enough then tax return processing and refunds could be impacted.

If the outage lasted for months then even those working in essential services would likely quit and find new jobs. So those services would suffer.

Of course the biggest impact would be to the 700,000 families that no longer collect their paychecks. Such an extended outage like Khoranth is hoping for would financially devastate these families. Many would likely be forced to quit and find new jobs which would make it difficult to reconstitute the 25% of the government that had been closed down for so long.

What has happened in the past on shorter outages is the back pay was given to both groups, those on furlough as well as those that were forced to work without pay. These government shutdowns in the past ended up costing us money not saving money.

Nothing good is likely to come from an extended shutdown like what Khoranth is hoping for. It is really Trump like thinking to even say such a thing.

You must be new to the forums, cause weve been saying this stuff for years before Trump was around.

Small government = better government: That sounds good to me!
I guess if your perspective is to constantly grow the government, and shrink the private sector, then this would be considered bad...

Small government is not a reasonably obtainable goal coming out of a government shut-down. Closing down the IRS, Coast Guard, and the Federal Judicial system for 6-12 months would cause many other unforeseen problems as well.

But it sounds like your statement about it being good for 25% of the government to be shut down for a year was said more tongue-in-cheek and not to be taken seriously? You hadn't put anymore thought into your statement than Trump would put into it, hence "It is really Trump like thinking to even say such a thing."

I don't know if it's good or not, but I encourage experimentation. You know how the "free trial" is a salesmanship cliché? Well the inverse, where you try cutting a service for some period of time, is a paid trial, because not spending the money is equivalent to paying yourself. I encourage people to go Lent Mode on various things in their personal lives, do without for a bit, and reevaluate if things are really worth what you pay for them — and that advice goes for both government and personal spending. And, hey, if the paid trial doesn't go so well, it's not the end of the world — just turn that service back on.

I don't think EVERY service effected by the partial shutdown will prove nonessential, but I'm confident MANY will. And we should permanently cut those services.

Things I've gone Lent Mode on:
- cable television: didn't even miss it.
- WiFi/streaming: Mint's unlimited + hotspot is slow but suffices, since the only online multiplayer I need is Hearthstone.
- YouTube Premium: I tried boycotting these guys and going Bitchute but I missed the Download feature too much, especially without WiFi, and went back. $12/mon is still cheaper than a broadband bill. Going without doesn't always work.
