Energy Shield and Life

*Overkill*
Can't We forget about ES and get to what really matters? WHAT OF MANA SHIELD!
2.6: adds legacy items back like 250% shavs
3.0: nerfs shavs to 150%

Rich become more rich, poor will waste 10x more time to reach same goals.
Sry, don't see any logic here.

Way to promote mediocrity instead of balance. You want to punish players for having top tier gear.. well there's a reason why you have TOP TIERS of gear.. and while you punish said players.. you make the game disgustingly clunky for all those unable to achieve such tiers of gear themselves.

And you call this balance? You call this game design? I call it raising the white flag and admitting that you've ran out of ideas.

I personally can't wait till you implement these changes.. because when a serious percentage leaves you'll revert them right back and look even sillier than you do for releasing such a poorly thought out "manifesto"

Specifically in response to "you make the game disgustingly clunky for all those unable to achieve such tiers of gear themselves", you clearly missed the fact that the higher flat ES Elreon mods they buffed makes it easier to get mid-to-high ES gear (they only nerfed the very top end), so the game actually became easier for those "unable to achieve such tiers of gear themselves".

The other thing I'm leery of is how much they seem to be sinking more focus into the Body Amour slot. I'd like to see more added to the defensive ability of gloves and boots, not less. Having all your defensive eggs focused in the body armor basket means fun builds that require specific body armours to work can be heavily disadvantaged, esp if the body armour in question is a mid-range level item.

So much this. I was all "yay life is getting buffed i can finally play a build that relies on Razor of the seventh sun" but since i wanted to use a unique chest and shield and an essence crafted helm and gloves, its looking like I'll have to spend way more currency to get close to the max potential (2 life rolls and a strength roll instead of just a good life roll and a strength roll; especially difficult on essence crafted items) and that potential will STILL be utter trash :/ .

Since they just said that a well rolled/crafted character can still reach 15k~ish ES, I'm fine with that. But I'm a bit sad that no buffs/changes were made to Life =( I was expecting some changes to how Life works/sustains itself. But well, I'll have to wait for the beta to see it =)

I think you missed like half the changes:
-New hybrid prefix roll for life (flat life plus either Armour/Evasion). THIS IS A BUFF TO LIFE
-"how Life works/sustains itself"? uhhh leech and VP are still in the game for life
As several have pointed out, 25k ES builds weren't seen often, and if they did, damage wasn't really there unless they abused some double dipping mechanics that will be changed already. Furthermore, life builds could get to like 12k or more (not 9k as they seem to think), though having the same issues as the former ones... Most ES builds, on the contrary, had 10 to 15k ES in order to balance offense and defense (that is what GGG seems to think optimal according to the manifesto). The interaction with VP was the real problem. Otherwise, investment on other defensive mechanisms should be made, affecting either defense or offense.

We'll have to see which other changes are made and how they interact with modified ES and life before we know the real impact. However, on a communication standpoint, I think we can all agree this announcement was poorly made, and shows lack of knowledge of core the game mechanics; which will be exactly what they will need in order to make the game more balanced and enable build diversity.
