GhazzyTV - Essence Drain & Contagion (or Bane/Soulrend) Trickster [SC/HC/Uber Elder/Shaper]

I was wondering if there is any real reason to have mana on your items if running MoM+Eldritch battery? I was discussing this build with my friend and we couldn't agree, if anyone has an explanation for why or why not that would be great.

My first thought was that by splitting the damage up evenly, maybe you got more eHP because the ES could recharge more often, but it still doesn't recharge when you take damage. So, it seems like its minimizing the defense provided by an energy shield in the first place, especially in regards to being one-shotted.
I'm still relatively new to PoE, someone wanna explain the benefit there? I def understand why MoM is good, just not why you take EB with it.

Eldritch Battery (EB)
Mind Over Matter (MoM)
Energy Shield (ES)
Low-Life (LL)

When you use auras or make curses behave like auras, your mana gets cut due the fact you need to reserve a part of it to turn araus on.

When you use ES in combination with LL, ES will prevent you from getting one-shot when you have 1 HP. If you move your ES from HP to Mana using EB you could say it prevents you from going out of mana. The EB & MoM combination gets you decent defence while reserving alot of your mana. Your mana is decimated and would not work as a defensive layer, but ES is gonna make up for that and is your new 'mana'.

Essence Drain builds use alot of mana, in early leveling you really are in need of the first ascendancy (Patient Reaper). Get this asap and you won't have Mana issueses anymore. This crave of mana will be consistant in the endgame, so playing with reserved mana is less smooth or you need adjustments in gear/points to make up for it.

When you can recharge your ES fast and use it as 'mana', you never get OOM and still have good defences when you combine EB with MoM.

You could change this a bit if you use totems, perfect form, unique neck that prevents aura's, curses or defences from reserving mana. This (EB & MoM) is just the most cheap and reliable way to fix the problem before you go MIN/MAX the build

Edit: Hybrid ES / Life gear is kinda cheap due the fact most builds choose one ES or Life. This gets you started in your build to do harder content with cheap gear.
10% increased max life + 400 es + 110 life + 90 total elemental resistance chest is available for 35 chaos.

Ok guys after failing annuls 3 times i got T2 chaos multiplier with "can have multiple crafted mods" on my wand.

What exacly is best 4 mods to craft?
Suffix:
13-16% chaos dmg for 3 alchs
16-20% cast speed 2c

Prefix:
Increased dmg over time ? - i can't see this on my bench? How to get it?

Ohhh! I get it now, ok. Thank you for the explanation.

I'd used MoM on my first character, a purifying flame inquis, and didn't have a big deal when running out of mana. BUT, it had really high life and mana regen as part of the defenses and I didn't conserve more then 60-70% with auras.
Anyone tried gemswapping to Soul Rend + GMP vs Red Elder minion phase?

With the weird spawn frequency I can't get ED to properly spread around and I'm left with trying to kill the minion with mostly Blight.

Lost Shaper a second time now. I think Soul Rend will probably work better in this phase? The change between phases should give enough time to swap those two gems.
New to ED Contag.

Question: Is Essence Drain always a life build? Is CI ED just throwing? I assume a big part of ED is to get the life regen correct? Is there a way to put it into ES?
What do you guys think in terms of Boots lab enchantments?


The big one this meta is this following one, but I'm skeptical its in our best interests to aim for it:

"0.6% of Damage Leeched as Life and Mana if you've Killed Recently"



I'm leaning towards these following 2 being the best ones for ED+Contagion:


Regenerate 2% of Life and Mana per second if you were Hit Recently

18% reduced Mana Cost of Skills if you've been Hit Recently


I think they are good because you cannot regen against stuff you're not instantly exploding (bosses and maybe rare monsters). It feels like dying to bosses or rares leftover after everything else pops is our weakness. The life and mana leech would last 4 seconds after the normal mobs die, and this is probably enough time to leech off the remaining rares. Not sure if this makes it better or not. Not even sure ED packs enough of a hit. Opinions on lab enchantments?
