90 Dollars? Really? For THAT? In my opinion It's not amazing enough to warrant a 90 dollar price tag. Maybe you guys should buff it a little, to make it a bit more epic to warrant it's insane cost? Maybe like leaving a lightning trail wherever it walks, or possibly stabbing dead bodies causing them to pulse with electricity.

I know I'll get all of the "YEAH BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO BUY IT" posts, but that's okay. What do you guys think? :]

I view the micro-transactions as donations to the company. You are donating 90$ to GGG, helping them support the game and make new content. The pet is a cute little token of appreciation.

Yes, regardless of how you view them, it doesn't change what they are. They aren't donations if you are getting something in return. You are paying for a product that you receive, and I wouldn't consider that a donation.

Like what I have said before about MT, the seller has the right to put prices on their own products, and it is up to the customers to buy it or not. I mean, you don't see everyone owning a ferrari. Cheers.

This is a ridiculous analogy.

A car or any other actual physical object has a base cost to manufacture it.

Digital items, once they are designed, have no cost per item to produce.

Of course they can charge whatever they want, but comparing it to the cost of a Ferrari is meaningless.

But like Ferrari, GGG has a business. The difference is that to use a Ferrari, you have to pay. To use GGG is free, but to keep them in business, they need money. So they give us options to support them. The cost to produce a digital item includes paying a salary too, so I'm pretty sure that they do cost something.

Also, our money pays for the servers too, in which the digital item occupies, which also needs maintenance.

With one particular game in mind pets can range between anywhere from $15 to $1,000.

There's always going to be a line up of people who will buy vanity items. and where there's demand there's lightning scorpion's to shock your taste buds.

The game is F2P which justifies the pricing in my eyes. If you want it then set aside what you might otherwise pay on a P2P games weekly subscription and buy it when you can afford too.
I seriously doubt they'll ever release a pet that I'd prefer to have out that can beat my kiwi.

Certainly not some $90 lightning scorpion.

But yes, I totally bought a heart. Fairly priced limited time items? TAKE MY MONEY!

The word to use is 'support'.

I don't really care for pets but I have the GGGold from my....support, so why not?

The scorpion could be twice as big, fart thunderclouds and randomly sing Thunderstruck by ACDC and it still wouldn't be worth 90 bucks.

Because it would still be a digital item with no tangible value.

It is useless.

Like most symbols, whatever power it has is conferred by what it represents.

https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

Well, I would have used expensive handbags or something as the analogous example myself, because it's easier to imagine they can be produced cheaply.

My point (even if it wasn't Ocylix's, I don't know) is that even with physical goods, the price isn't always just the cost of manufacturing plus some small amount; it's entirely up to the seller. There is no "correct" amount of profit to make on an item, it's a subjective, arbitrary decision, and if some companies can get away with selling pointlessly expensive status symbol items, well...good on them.

Normally I could see you could make some point about teaching people to value status symbols being morally questionable or some such, but when GGG are already providing a game for free I think it's easier to justify them trying to encourage people to spend big on the store.
