[3.0] NeverSink's ♣ INDEPTH Tornado&Archer Guide ♣ Beginner friendly ♣ Rapid clear ♣ All bosses

Hi all. I'm a newbie, i'm trying to follow this build. What is green CONC gem that support Blasted Rain?
Also, i'm trying Barrage, it feels not bad and with good single target damage (and low mana consumption, so i can use at my low level an aura and an herald) with split arrows as aoe damage.
What is the advantage to shift at Blasted Rain - Tornado Shot? I'm asking for to understand better mechanics and ideas in building characters.
Thanks :)

CONC is a blue Concentration gem.

TS is great for single and aoe, blasted rain (single target) seems like a good pair for lightning arrow (aoe). I think it comes down to preference and what you gear you have that completes the skills you use.

Heh, your a little off.

In a nut shell: Power Charges

"A few on hit abilities" is totally off. We have no other way of gaining power charges unless you wanna run a weird unique, or can get through ascendancy.

Curse on Hit + Curse + Herald is a standard and expected necessity. Anyone will tell you that keeping 3 power charges up is easily achievable.

Actually I wrote it wrong in my previous message: that 44% is not increased projectile damage, it is "enemies take 44% increased damage from projectiles", which is multiplicative (the wiki is clear on that).

So, here is some math, assuming 100 base damage for reference:

With 20/20 proj weakness:

45% crit chance
400% crit multiplier

Non-crit: 0.55*100*1.54 = 84.7
crit: 0.45*100*4.00*1.54 = 277.2

Total damage: 361.9

with 20/20 assassin's mark and 0 power charges:

54% crit chance
460% crit damage (adds 20% of the additional 300%)

Non crit: 0.46*100 = 46
crit: 0.54*100*4.60 = 248.4

Total damage: 294.4

with 20/20 assassin's mark and 3 power charges:

54% crit chance
610% crit damage

Non crit: 0.46*100 = 46
crit: 0.54*100*6.10 = 329.4

Total damage: 375.4

So assassin's mark loses badly if you are at 0 power charges, and wins slightly if you are at full charges. What I don't understand is how you plan to keep up charges when you are in front of a boss, Atziri for instance. The charges from the mobs in her "recharge phase" wear out quickly.

You can easily keep them up outside boss rooms, I agree, but everything dies instantly without curses, so that is not really the thing to focus on.

just like enemies take extra damage from projectiles with proj weakness, they take extra damage from critical hits with assassin's mark

"Cursed enemies take 20% increased extra damage from Critical Strikes"

So your calculation regarding crit multi are probably wrong (I haven't checked the details). You must consider the normal crit multi and a 20% multiplier on the whole crit damage instead.

I think I got it right: if my crit multi is 400%, the part exceeding 100% ("extra damage") is 300%, and 300%*1.2 is 360%.

yeah, buffs and debuffs are seperate.
proj weakness is a MORE multiplier. it does not add into your other "increased damage", unless of course you have other sources of increased damage debuffs.

I too am inclined to think proj weakness is more valuable. its always there, no charge management. no kills required. Like the flask discussion. Proj weakness is giving that 44% more damage right from the first hit, vs say Izaro. you won't have your powercharges vs him, until you tag and kill any minions hes spawns.

For the Raider tree, why choose "chance for Phasing on kill" over "chance for Frenzy on kill". Frenzy duration and the extra attack speed from getting the frenzy talent seem like nice boons too. Without Avatar of Phasing, I'm not seeing the benefit in getting it.

Can anyone please weigh in.

Frenzy and frenzy duration is really easy to come by for any ranger. Frenzy or blood rage, will make chance for frenzy on kill meaningless.

and your build will have +3 charges, and +54% duration in passive tree. giving a bit over 15s duration. an additional 18% duration is near meaningless.

The 10% attack speed is ok. but also just adding into the large amounts you already have. making it less valuable point for point.
While the 6% dodge is pretty rare. adding into the 40% dodge you likely have with phase acro.
Phasing itself, I dont really know the value of. looks cool? not sure any real value of it, without avatar of the veil. especially as a bow ranger. melee ranger. ok. removing body blocking has some value.

Yes it's ok. I was just about to reply to my message that your calculations are alright.

edit: quoting wiki
"Increased Critical Damage: The listed extra critical strike damage is multiplicative with the portion of your critical damage multiplier that is over 100%. For example, if your critical strike multiplier is 150%, any successful critical strike will do 180% of normal damage."
Their example is just plain wrong then. It should be 160%.

Hey guys, I'm sure this has been asked a few times, but I need some help picking my ascendancy class. I rolled a ranger alt with the intention to play a very fast map clear build. I see that Neversink has detailed which one to go based off of price. I'm pretty new to the game (played it in beta didn't get into it until now) so I'm not sure where that sits. I have about 6 ex at my disposal and am comfortable dropping it on the ranger. Would that let me do a speed clear build or? if so which one should i go? Thanks for the help guys!
