Annual reminder that XP loss on death is bad design.
" Wat People are complaining cus its annoying to lose the hours you spent earning exp. Not because exp loss is modern in any way. The only games that had death penalties like this were ancient-ahh MMOs in like the year 2000. Last edited by Toforto#2372 on Nov 18, 2025, 2:01:38 PM

" People are complaining because they want max loot, max level, max gear, and least work. Its not like GGG hasnt built in options to deal with this. You are playing one of the most customizable AARPGs available. 1. Reduce difficulty: scarabs, atlas passives, rolling maps/regex 2. Build tankiness: guard skills, defense layers, flask swap, add a shield, etc 3. Omens: for when you want to die anyway 4. Group play: aura bot friend or xp carries 5. No max level requirement. Level 84 is current level requirement max for top tier bases. No one needs to get past the mid 80's if they dont want to. Your choice to play a glass cannon is a personal choice. GGG has stated countless times across both POE1 and POE2 that central tenant of their design philosophy is for "Choices to be meaningful". Dying having a penalty in all game modes = meaningful decision. “Freedom is what we do with what is done to us.” Last edited by Piousqd#0073 on Nov 18, 2025, 2:13:23 PM

" Losing progress feels bad. If PoE is all about player agency, let me disable exp loss. And people that enjoy it can leave it enabled, everybody wins. Like, there's nothing meaningful about losing hours and hours of my mapping progress. The exp that I already earned, what right does a game have to take that away from me? I hate losing progress in any game for any reason, not just on death. Why do you think I play SC only and never touch HC? Last edited by Toforto#2372 on Nov 18, 2025, 2:26:17 PM

" SC isnt a story mode. Poe rewards risk and reward behavior. Harder maps = more loot. Faster clear = squishy character. People Who rush to maps faster = more money. You can play easier maps to get your lvl 100 if you want. What you cant, is rush minďless trough high juiced maps with no consequences. That would open up tons of exploits. Usually you decide: do i want to lvl? Or is this lvl enough for my build ? ( And then you start doing high juiced maps). Yeah yeah we know, you can buy 5 way runs. That changes nothing. You also buy crafted itens instead of crafting them. Currency = the time you spent to earn that currency. If you buy 5 ways, its the same thing of Wasting time to get to lvl 100. And thats the best thing about this game. You have to make choices and decisions. And they do matter. If you take out decisions and consequences of this game, you will lose what makes poe a better game than d4 or other shitty rpgs |

XP regression disincentivizes trying new things and pushing content, leading to stale gameplay.

" Wrong. You do not lose xp if you have 0% XP. You can test anything in that situation. If XP loss would mean stale gameplay, poe would not have all this build diversity we have now. The thing is, some ppl just want to chill and achieve optimal results, loot, power. They would a mox of poe and mobile games. |
