Popular Opinion: In 3.28 League Challenges Should Require Solo Completion
" theres a lot of hostility to be had when people throw accusations at me but all things considered its more of an annoyance rather than anything. " i understand it. and i've yet to see a suggestion that does so without changing the current practice. actually now that we're talking about it, a new idea i have is an alternate colour mtx for people who cleared all challenges solo. perhaps thats a better suggestion? the truly hardcore players can aim to get both versions of the mtx reward. " i remember back when this was the norm. to me the reason why would i suggest it is because its still something that is not too exclusive. alt art rewards dont necessarily need to be league exclusive and can return in a different league. instead of alt arts, we could also get demigods equipment. theres many ways it could be implemented. as for RMT. i honestly feel its a ship long sailed past. the fact that we can buy challenges itself can lead to RMT. in fact, people "sharing account" is a known fact. its really something beyond our control. i rather not have the game be full of RMT but the only way that could happen is if the game was rebalanced to be solo only. and to be frank i m pretty sure GGG benefits from RMT. the bots they ban typically use preem stashes. " I agree, also it is astonishing how people who don't know much about the discussed matter try to give non-related bad solutions, and don't understand why others don't accept them. I personally don't do challenges for MTX, so I have no idea why more tradeable cosmetics could be any solution to untradeable/actually challenging challenges. I personally wish to see that number in profile - 40 - to be an indicator that this player possess the skill and/or dedication to reach it, not the couple of divine orbs to buy it. As I see it, there are few approach to it (I will sort them by graduating difficulty in my opinion): -remove trivial (non)"challenges" like "do side quest in A1" or "get chisel from the vendor" and replace them with more meaningful - this doesn't prevent them from being bough so not a solution at all, but a great addition. -require the player to be alone in the area when completing the challenge (from the beginning) -this, as was already noticed, still allows to buy gear/setup to more easily complete the challenge. Despite that it is way still better from what we have now. -move challenges to SSF - this is a really nice testimony to skill. Get the build yourself and farm/craft gear yourself, then do the challenges yourself. With current system, that challenge count next to a nickname have zero value, and I really wish for it to be an achievement to genuinely be proud of, instead of a "participation trophy". I would like to know, what is your take? " I'd like to know your opinion too. Biggest compliments for my crafted items - "bs, they must have been RMT'ed" I'm disabled, I have rare case of semperduravera, so I can write things that may look rude, but it is because of disability - I'm forced to tell truth using words you may not like. " I’d say my thoughts are roughly in line with what you’ve already listed, essentially the same points we’ve been circling for the last 20 pages while trying to explain things to the constantly derailing crowd. To summarize, challenges need to become engaging and fun again, rather than relying on decade-old, poorly-aged concepts like sluggish vendor recipes or other low-effort designs. They used to be enjoyable several leagues ago, but looking at the more recent lineup… I don’t know. It really feels like the creativity well is running dry. Challenges also need far more careful design so we end up with 40 well-crafted, enjoyable, and genuinely engaging tasks, and worded in a way that prevents players from simply being carried. Playing in a trade league already gives access to a literal item editor, assuming we have enough currency, and that alone is more than enough of a handicap. There’s no need to let players outsource the entire challenge and then complain about content they never actually engage with. Making players participate again would go a long way toward restoring the meaning behind these challenges and stripping away the cheese. I don’t think locking them behind SSF would be ideal, but something similar to the approach they took with Ruthless could work, perhaps giving SSF its own exclusive rewards as well with the other changes. Challenges are perfect how they are, and they fulfill their purpose perfectly aswell: getting people to play the league for the free shiny mtx.
They aren't ever gonna change to be solo, because you have a solo gamemode: SSF. Go play it to get the bragging rights of doing them all truly solo. Because trading for items doesn't count, you are getting help from other players who picked up/crafted those items in that scenario. So there is no reason for them to ever change them to be solo-only, because that option already exists for people in the game. In fact quite the contrary, challenges have only been getting easier and easier league after league. I have to put less effort and thought into completing them, and I love that. Its a good thing that they are a passive checklist for some free rewards. Its a genius way to get people to play the game, and look at how many years I come back league after league for my fully-deserved 40/40 totem and challenge mtx. They just need to remove aspirational, optional content like t17s and uber bosses from the challenges, and then they will be even better. GGG has no reason to make such a change anyway, because it will hurt their profits and player count. It would make 0 sense to do this. If the game gatekept all these cool rewards then I never would have played it, and never would have spent all my money on stash tabs. So there's your proof. Also why would they make such a change that makes the game unfun for so many people? You have no clue how many would quit over this. You can't just take away people's mtx rewards like that without consequences. It is expected to get free mtx every league you play now, its the norm. And it isn't changing. Its been like this since like Perandus league or something. SC Trade is the casual,easy-mode of the game, asking for such changes is ridiculous. They can give alt-colored mtx or different colored badges for completing them in HC or SSF just like how Ruthless challenges are always red. I wouldn't care, I'd stay in my lane and play SC Trade while collecting my free rewards every league. I only play HC if there is a free mystery box at lvl50, then I logout and delete char immediately. And guess why I play it even though I hate HC? Because free stuff is nice. Its a business strategy, and it works far too well for them to change it now. Can't wait for next league's challenges, they will be even more casual and easier. If you want solo challenges literally go play SSF, you have the option. Or just do them solo on your own? It shouldn't matter how other people play the game, and forcing everyone else to do them solo is absurd and pointless. I get to have fun however I want in this game, that's the point of SC Trade. Its basically a sandbox game. It doesn't affect you if someone buys a carry. That's just them choosing to play the game in a completely valid way. |

Not Toforto arguing against a strawman again. No way you typed all that ignoring the recent writeups...

" If you’re genuinely convinced that the challenges won’t be changed, it does make one wonder why you’re so intent on derailing the discussion, even to the point of dismissing the valid points multiple players have raised since your last post, only to loop back to your original strawman of “go play SSF,” despite this thread never being about which mode anyone should play. The challenge system is not fine, and multiple other users have already agreed on that. So I’ll ask once more, politely, please stop derailing this topic on purpose with remarks like “go play SSF” or by trying to claim the opposite when several users have already outlined the exact flaws in the current system. 3.28 is the perfect time to push better, more engaging challenges and finally remove the long-overdue cheese, which has already been discussed at length and clearly shown why it needs to be removed. Nobody enjoys decade-old vendor recipes or Act 1 side quests that have little value in today’s PoE. Players want fun, engaging content inside their optional challenge system to stay invested, not boring chores that make them quit after week one.
