Login screen "frozen"

same here.

got 4 gigs, win7 64 bit, login screen essentially halts any activity on the computer. I press ctrl+alt+del, and it takes a good 5 minutes for that to actually appear at which point game process has annihilated itself. I kept my web browser open in the background and noticed that it had been robbed of all memory allocation and was slowly crawling back to a functional amount of memory. so it does look like a memory leak.

I just had this issue again and I used your suggestion. Nothing happened...resources are still skyrocketed.

Are you using Win7 or something else?

Yeah, should have told my config, especially since i'm running Windows 8.
Asus G53-JW : Core i5 460 + 4Go Ram + Geforce GTX 460M

It really got rid of this whole frozen login screen issue for me, no more problem since i switched to windowed fullscreen mode.

i got 8gb of ram and got the same problem on every second game start. i did not have that issue in the closed beta. and the game is crashing ingame a lot today too.
I wrote this on other thread...hope it helps you and developers to figure out what is the problem.

I found a solution. After applying tons of things to make it start I found by myself what causes the freezing at startup problem.

Quick Solution:

- Go to the folder where you installed the game (for me is the default C:\Program Files (x86)\Grinding Gear Games\Path of Exile)
- Delete ShaderCache folder.
- Enjoy!!!

"I don't know if it will further help" Solution:

AFTER you applied the Quick solution you can try this.

Searching through the forum I found a lot of other solutions that didn't work but I think they might work from now on. One of them was told by a PoE developer (I think) and it sound like this:

- Go to the folder where you installed the game (for me is the default C:\Program Files (x86)\Grinding Gear Games\Path of Exile)
- Create a shortcut to Client.exe
- Right click on the shortcut and select Properties
- At Target put AFTER everything it's written there -gc 2 so it will look something like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Grinding Gear Games\Path of Exile" -gc 2
- Now go to the Compatibility tab and select to be compatible with Windows XP (SP3) and run as administrator. Don't ask me why this is another solution found by someone that didn't work for me.

-gc 2 stands for Garbage Collector. It is a future for programming languages that deletes from RAM any useless thing remained.

I don't know if this solution helps and will prevent bug from ocuring. If not I suppose we will have to delete that god damned folder every time we have this bug :D

Also if it helps for developers, these are my specs:

Got this problem as well. Tried deleting the ShaderCache folder that al3x1393 informed about, and it works for now. Will edit this post if it starts freezing again on login screen.
Cheers!

Another couple of things I forgot to mention.

Game isn't really frozen!!!

Your clicks on the screen are received by the game.

You can test that by entering in windowed mode while you are stuck at the frozen login screen (by pressing Alt + Enter). The surprising thing is that in windowed mode the game isn't frozen at all, even better it is working perfectly, but at 800x600 resolution (previously set at 1920x1080) (maybe this is another clue....maybe game tries to render them at a wrong resolution in full screen, I don't know). Login in windowed mode then enter in fullscreen mode again (again Alt + Enter). Click on the map and enter again in windowed mode. You will see that your charatcer moved because of your click.

I did another couple of tests after that and I found that:

Windowed mode works perfectly;
Fullscreen windowed mode works "perfectly" (I have low fps in this mode so it's not a good choice for me);
Fullscreen mode is the only one that stucks.

It eats tons of RAM while stuck.
windowed fullscreen solved the problem for me as well
I run windowed fullscreen exclusively and still got the freezes. It's not happening that often for me now, just end up using a couple more portal scrolls than I usually would just in case! :D
Здравствуйте! Что делать? играл несколько дней подряд, вчера ночью игра завился и я до сих пор не могу в неё зайти ,только начинает появляться заставка , сразу вылетает и выдает ошибку : queue signal failed
Hello! What to do? I played for several days in a row, the game started up last night and I still can't log in, the screensaver just starts to appear, it crashes immediately and gives an error: queue signal failed
