Is it just me, or the Lore & Story is weak and boring?

I don't think the story has ever been good imo, I don't know how many are playing this for the story but I'm deff not one of them. I'm here for the loot and explosions. They try their best but story is not something they are very good at in POE2.

First of all, the story isn't completed, and I'm not excusing it; you either get it or not. With that said:

1.If you pay a bit of attention in ACT 1, Count Geonor is a tad insane. Manipulated by Oriana, he became paranoid, and under the influence of the beast he started feeding corpses to it. And the corpses came from the persecuted people in his domain; our characters got caught and accused of various crimes, true or otherwise.

2.The whole corruption plot ties in with the POE 1 story; Sin has an important role as he created the beast. Our characters, same as in POE 1, are not shining heroes. They all have their own motives and shady pasts; one does what one must to survive. The Witch being my favorite simply because she wants power, no matter the cost. Hell, in POE 1, by the end we are killing machines in service of Eldrich Gods.

3.The world in POE is brutal, with no happy endings. The closest to good guys you get are the Azmeri (the semi naked tribal people that apparently talk to spirits).

4.No one trusts Doryani in the story....but he's smart and the world is going down the drain. Allies of necessity.

5.Tavakai was corrupted when he did all that.....but, I'll agree with you here; he got off too easy.

Yeah, maybe I'm just weird, and like the setting to much that I pick up every detail and piece of lore I can get; so getting the story feels easier to me.


Yes, it's early access so I will reserve final judgment till they get a chance to finish it off, but it's not looking good so far and you have to assume they have it all mapped out already and it's going to be more of the same. It's hard to see a clear path for them tying everything together in a way that makes sense or doesn't retain many of the massive plot holes and inconsistencies.

Not looking for a good or happy ending, just a story where everyone's motives and actions make sense, particularly the main character's. I think the lack of agency or choice you feel in how the plot unfolds is another issue. It would have been nice to have some optional dialogue choices... sadly games seem to be trending away from that lately, or you're just given alternate dialogue choices that lead to the same outcomes anyway.

Can't demand that, obviously it takes more resources to build that into a game's story, but I will say it's just not as fun or engaging without that. You end up watching, instead of participating. You don't end up feeling as motivated to learn about the lore and world when your choices in it don't matter.

You get my point...the whole thing feels like there were pre determined characters and ideas/concepts that we're awkwardly shoehorned in, and it just kills the story cohesion and immersion.




I do agree with you, I have a feeling that they will make Doryani the final boss and it will feel as bad as The Rock felt when he went against Cody Rhodes

Seen that too many times, got bored of it


But I do like the voice of Doryani and the way he explains things

It's similar to discworld. It's fun but dropped it after the third. This litrpg didn't stay fun for long for me, although I'll try to read one from him that isn't litrpg when I have the time. If ever.
I feel like the game is missing some cinematics that explain the story better. Maybe we will get that once 1.0 drops?

I do not think we will get the cinematics honestly, but it would not hurt to have at least some cartoonish cinematics like LE or GW2

Yeah I find it kinda cringe, it's a cheap way to create a story
What I like in poe1 story is that...
We were trully exiled... because we were an outlaw
And on poe2 we survived an execution... that comdened us because he was mad.
Could be path of survivor...

And... poe1 we kinda start small, get revenge and start messing with gods and outer beings..

On poe2 my POV is all we are trying is to help ppl, stop the beast and kinda of things.

It's just not the same vibe and I dont even can start how to fix the story.


The GOOD part.... is that S stand for Story on ARPG (in case I'm not being clear... S is not on ARPG), we just want to kill monster and get loot.
Old friend, I've been playing this game for over ten years, and all I know about the plot is that we're an ex-convict who survived a shipwreck while being transported to a prison on an island. How and why we become a godslayer — I have no idea. I just enjoy the gameplay.
