Is it just me, or the Lore & Story is weak and boring?

The "lore" about "why things are the way they are" can be kinda interesting in the details but the campaign story itself is cheesy and cliche.
I think they do it on purpose. Lore is there for people who want it and the story is simple enough for illiterate ADHD people to tolerate. Who am I to say anything, I don't respect my time either.

No, it's not your penis |

There is lore?
No but seriously they make you dig for it if you really want to enjoy the story its good. My favorite thing from poe 2 is the Azarin, the Forsaken Son story line. A short version is his mom was a godess who left him to be a mortal and she went a partied and and fun being a godess. Well he eventually died and she kept partying. Then Oriana (This is the big boss thats curropting all the other bosses.) came along and used the corruption to bring him back to life. Then he captured his mother, the Water Goddess Halani(recognize the name?), stripping her of her power and binding her in her own tomb. Azarian actively tortures her, mockingly telling her to "save her breath" for when his King arrives. His ultimate goal is a poetic, horrific inversion of his childhood: he is keeping her captive so he can feed her divine flesh to the Seed of Corruption, letting the Beast feast on her alive. Then we come in, Azarian is completely consumed by madness. He admits that even watching his mother suffer has not filled the empty void in his chest, stating that "there is nothing left for me but hate." And then we kill his mom and see some booba its and guts. Kinda wild. |

Yeah he was like the ungrateful boy angry at his mother, a story line for some gamers to relate to. Bad mommy. It's the same in Diablo 4. Lilith the evil mom. These are the monsters we must fight in these games, all of us.

" Well ARPG's are not known for award winning stories; and before anyone else brings it up, Diablo isn't an exception either. Diablo 2 had a decent story, and flashy cut-scenes for the time, but that's about it. The lore, just like POE, in Diablo is better than the stories presented in the campaigns. D3 and 4 have the worst joke stories ever. Anyway, seeing how 99% of players just want to go straight to brain rot, dopamine dispenser endgame, I don't think GGG bothers too much with creating an epic story; pointless waste of effort for people that do not care. Still, I'm satisfied with what we have; I've played story focused games that had worse than this. |

Campaign story is a bit boring to me now, but thats cause ive played it multiple times. im not coming back for that part anyway.
Think the best PoE lore/story comes from the layers of world building added league after league with new npcs and items. The obscure lore blurbs scattered across items similar to fromsoft games are something I really enjoy and they feel conistant enough to try and piece together deeper meaning. Like pondering; what the dying/dead sun is all about, where/when are harbingers from, why is Chayula so mean to the other breachlords- they just want to be really close friends, what the hell is a solstice rhoa and can i have one... so many mysteries. Please GGG, I need my sparkly crown MTX in PoE2.

" It's not just you friend. It feels directionless and full of inconsistencies. There's no weight behind the characters words or actions, especially not your own, and really no connection that you feel with any person or place in the world. Should we expect amazing writing from a game such as this? Not realistically, but shit it woulda been nice. The blame lies with the customers, the player base anyway. Why should GGG pay for quality writing, or spend any resources on plot construction, narrative consistency, etc...when most of their customers will accept complete and total slop. I mean, just take a look at a few of the comments here, and take a look at 90% of the names people use in global chat...those are your peers. Moreover in todays world why would they take any narrative risk at all when no one's demanding it from them. So yeah, you're gonna get what you get and its probably not gonna be great. You can only cross your fingers that it's not like Monster Hunter Wilds bad. |

" Wasn't even talking about that. |

" Yeah I do like this storyline with Azarian But i feel like the way his mother was tortured should have happened years ago, somehow it feels like we're teleported into thefuture after years of torture by Azarian This should have been played out a bit more , but i do agree that this is a nice part of the story |
