Dude actually thinks the solution to PoE1s declining player base is for PoE2 to just offer more of the same with marginally better graphics.
surely you are ragebaiting. POE1 declining player base? brother one look at the charts shows constant growth over the years.
Not an intentional rage baiter sorry.
Have not analyzed charts personally to a great degree, but summaries I read of how the game is trending indicate big surges on new season releases, but consistently lower troughs and lower average monthly players suggested as indicative of a slow attrition and a shrinking overall player base.
Happy to be corrected and have my impression changed. Obviously steam numbers etc. don't tell the full story, because player numbers don't tell the full story (who knows maybe average $ spent per player is going up etc etc) and there are plenty of confounds like the direct pull PoE2 could be having on 1 etc, general condition of the economy.
Anyway, from what I've read, and been told by others, overal player numbers are declining, and/or they were anticipated to decline in the future hence the whole idea of making PoE2.
Again happy to be shown otherwise. Not that it would change my mind how I feel about where the game is headed. Have already assumed that the decision has been made to fall back on what they know and scrap the idea of bolder and better, likely for financial reasons, and just make PoE2 = PoE1 with marginally better graphics. They gave it a good effort, or a bit of an effort and just didn't have it in themselves to do something much different.
And that is understandable and ok. I got enough fun out of my 30$ plus whatever I spent on a few extra stash tabs. But there's not much hope for continued fun with the further devolution into slop combat gameplay, inventory management simulation, and slot machine emulation.
LMAO AHAHAHAHA holy fuck u are funny

I don't mind general mapping with a build like they showed, with tornadoes flying everywhere super fast. As long as the boss fights, especially Pinnacles are actually challenging and have mechanics to engage with. Hopefully we don't do AS much damage in 0.5. and hopefully bosses have been buffed.

ah well no point really debating anything then, Cya

You misunderstand friend, I'm not retiring from the forum. There's still value in the public service of calling out the bait and switch, and continuing to give thoughtful feedback on deficiencies in PoE2, and in letting GGG know how they might win customers back or broaden their player base.
I'll continue the debate until a game that looks worth playing comes along. Not much out right now that suits my tastes and Exodus the Traveler and Blood of Dawnwalker look pretty far off still, so you'll likely have the benefit of my company for a bit longer.

Wild isn't it? There seems to be some general dissonance, along with many disingenuous takes on these boards too about who it is that's demanding meaningful or better than PoE1 style combat in PoE2.
It's not just people who like to play soulslikes or exceedingly difficult high intensity games, there are ton of casuals, dad gamers, people who liked some things about PoE1 but left it for whatever reason, etc. who would like to experience something more engaging than one click seizure inducing slop combat in an ARPG. Even more they'd like to see that in a game that effectively stated that as a primary goal.
Even AI knows when you ask it, which makes it extra funny when they start calling others casuals or tourists and the like lmao.

I think GGG balances the endgame around full-time streamers because playing 15 hours a day requires low-effort gameplay. Doing intense, skillful combat for that long causes mental burnout. The zoom zoom meta is just a survival mechanic for content creators so they can zone out and grind all day.
But normal people playing 1 or 2 hours a night want an engaging game, not a second job where they autopilot through maps. Just look at League of Legends. The combat requires constant focus and mechanical skill, which is exactly why it stays engaging and never gets boring.

100% agree. What happened with meaningful combat? I didn't buy supporter packs for Path of Exile 2 to play a Path of Exile 1 slop clone.
At least give us an option to refund supporter packs if this is the direction you're going with, GGG?
Agree

This topic is an example of how to not give feedback.
From speculation about barely shown stuff in reveal, through AI slop mumbling, to literal demanding and threatening with refunds...
Doesn't matter what you stand for, this is not the way of communicating if you want to be taken seriously.

Pray tell my good sir, what is the proper dignified way to communicate feedback on a forum where the developer is unengaged with narry a sign of response to customer concerns for quite some time now? Cheerfully await your enlightened response.

I think there’s quite some valuable feedback throughout the topic. There’s been at least some speculation but we’re taking cues from a 3+ hour presentation.
