[0.5 endgame] What about slow builds and meaningful combat?
" Good point. I bought EA because it was pitched as a different game from what it has become. False advertising should make me eligible to a refund. |

Watch them all get bored in two weeks of launch and then complain there's no content again with this route GGG has taken. Especially with the in-game build guide there. Everyone will be even more sheep-like and follow what 3% people choose for them.... instead of doing the only thing that can be fun in the game when combat isn't there .. aka build planning.
Also watch them complain about visual clarity as they spam effects all over the monster-filled screen. Throwing in all the bloat in one patch like that feels like speed-running the death of it all. Not even sure what they're trying to do with that... capture the tiktok audience? Last patch was the last time I felt like giving it another try... this though? Yeah no thanks.. there are other things I can play that don't feel like meaningless slop. Seeing them mention all those bosses names that sound all mighty and godlike... man those sure sound like a challenge... watch them get melted by 2 leaps in the air with golden wings.. lmao. They should have in the names of every boss stuff like "The frail one", "The weakened", "The crippled"... none of that fancy stuff that makes them sound like actual bosses. Previously I watched the trailers and extended stuff with interest and hopes... this though... I was borderline sleeping through it as I was focused on doing other things. Not even interested in hearing anything from the interview either. "Sigh" Last edited by IonSugeRau1#1069 on May 8, 2026, 9:58:01 AM

I am not opposed to slow and meaningful combat...At the start of the game (campaign).
At the end of the campaign, most people expect a power up no? To become strong, to be able to crush waves to kill bosses etc... Not to mention the fact that if you are able to "speedrun" end game content, you get more drops per hour, you can start minmaxing your build quicker, you get stronger faster etc... I mean it is what it is |

While I am really looking forward to the patch, it was sad to see no mention of keeping this style of combat alive in endgame. When Mark had mentioned before giving us the ability to choose more if we want slow vs zoomy.
Endgame feeling like a totally different game still might hold true. Density getting insane and gameplay turning into a single button mash fest. Also the league mechanics still pushing to kill things as fast as possible to keep the content going goes against the whole idea of slower, methodical combat. I really hope the atlas tree has some of those choice nodes that make significant impact on mob density and HP. So if we want less mobs cluttering the screen and the chance to actually make use of the combos, we can. I suppose those nodes will also need to affect the league timers too. Part of the cries around performance issues is ofc the player causing particles effects but also the hordes of mobs and the effects they make too. The game would run better with more moderate sized packs. |

" They advertised the game like an ARPG with slow and meaningful combat. They sold keys because of that. Don't blame the people for asking what they were promised to, ask yourself why GGG lied and scammed people they way it did. |
|
" That’s exactly my point as well. I was fully expecting a breakdown of the different ways to spec your Atlas tree depending on your build. Yet all we saw was literally the same build (clear speed spam) in different flavors. I’m beyond confused and I just don’t know if the game is for me anymore. I want to play my way but I don’t see my playstyle represented in GGGs endgame presentation. |
|
" They also said to expect poe1 type build crazyness at end game, except hundreds of arrows instead of thousands. They said stuff like "our goal[for late endgame farming] is for players to at least see 1 attack before the boss dies". GGG didn't lie, people just cling to the statements that affirm their angry feelings. Please GGG, I need my sparkly crown MTX in PoE2.

" No, that's biased BS and requires context. It was after they were pressed with the question of "zoom zoom" constantly and them dodging to answer it for a long while, then gradually started to soft respond to it very vaguely and then progressively less dodgy. Please, don't try to bend reality, we were all witness. I've seen this kind of thing too many times. Why they dodged to answer it initially? Simple.. they were hoping PoE1 community will get to like more engaging combat and that they will also get to capture new audience with that... two birds with one stone. Little did they know the PoE1 community was hellbent tooth and nail completely against any of that before they even saw anything of it. Every god damn poe1 streamer in every interview: "but we'll still be able to zoom zoom yes?", "but one button builds yes? THINK OF THE DISABLED" - cringiest little streamer alive literally trying to use disabled people as a scapegoat for his insistence, "But become gods, yes?" etc. Poor Jonathan was cringing every time he was being asked that... and eventually he gave up from all the pressure. It was disappointing that they mentioned nothing in this direction. Having slower, more tactical combat supported is really important.
