Zoomers will never be happy in PoE 2.

The problem with meaningful combat is that GGG picked the least compatible genre for that, and the least compatible game in that genre.

I mean take BG3 or Divinity. You can do all kinds of cool situational stuff. Electrocute water, blow up a barrel, throw enemies into each other. There's a selection of spells you can use in different situations. You don't just spam fireball or whatever. This IS cool.

The problem is, they're turn-based games. Or very slow paced games. Or have stealth like Dishonored. Not to mention that oftentimes the fights are CAREFULLY DESIGNED to reward certain interactions. If you see a puddle of water in Divinity, it's placed there by the developer for you to throw some lightning at it.

You won't be electrocuting water and tactically use spells in a fast-paced game like PoE. The closest you can get to "meaningful" combat in PoE is have a *spammable* combo like leap slam -> boneshatter or something. Something you don't need to think about too much, and in essense you're still using one skill - it just involves pressing multiple buttons.

If i try to use a sub-optimal skill composition, say, on a crossbow mercenary, i won't get "meaningful combat". I'll just get lots of backpedaling. If i have a poweful skill in my composition that has a 5 seconds CD, it'll be backpedaling until i can use that skill. This is NOT tactical, NOT meaninfgul, and least of all, fun.

If GGG wants slow-paced, "meaningful" combat, they need to rewrite poe2 into a slow-paced game with a lot less build customization (otherwise players will just find a way to blow up screens regardless) and an active pause. I would play it. But current PoE2 is not that, and it'll never be that. And simply adding some spenders and cooldowns won't change that. People will just avoid these because in a game with that much customization, there will always be better options.

Exactly, they could have made a soulslike/roguelike and did a graphical/mechanical rework of poe1. The mixture created an absolute ton of fighting and animosity in the playerbase.

Slow-meaningful combat doesn't work universally with an economy where being able to play the cool builds requires you to optimize maps/hr and div/hr. It manipulates the majority of people to believe that if they don't go as fast as possible that they're wasting their time. That group of people IS the majority too. Assuming you can derive any accuracy of play rates from poeninja. 2 ascendancies were 46% of the players. Deadeye and blood mage. Then 10% invoker, the only speedy melee.
The irony of this thread title is almost poetic, because it’s obviously the complete opposite of reality.

Slow-paced tourists will never be happy in PoE 2. The game could crawl at the speed of a dial-up modem and they’d still complain it’s not slow enough. For them, every fight should feel like wading through cement which, newsflash, would make it not PoE and definitely not an ARPG.

PoE 2 is a zoom-zoom game, and it should stay that way. Either accept it, or kindly find another hobby.

And when the game is teetering on collapse because a loud minority of human speed bumps managed to sabotage the experience for everyone else, GGG will eventually have to step in and put an end to this slow-motion circus.

People say there is no wrong way to play the game and i disagree completely. Imagine being Fubgun and playing 1500 seasons creating same character who just picks movement speed and crits on a tree and calling it a build. I wish some streamers didn't make "content". When i joined this game people said you can't play without following a build and now i udnerstand that following a build is the worst thing you could do.

Yet he clears all content the game has to offer on a record time.

and before you say "hur dur this is not fun" YES, it is a lot of fun for a lot of people.

Oh yes, Path of Exile 2, a game about beating content in recod time. And fubgun and his fans are having so much fun that everything they talk about is how the game is bad not realising its bad only for them because that is one of the wosrt ways to play games or approach anything in life.

GGG begs to differ.

And who said he is saying the game is bad? He likes POE2, he made a build and will zoom zoom again. And different from you, he, or myself for the record, is not worried how you are playing. If you want to slog throught the campaign and do no maps, its up to you. It is you who wants to force your way of playing on other people, not the other way around.

No it is not. It is just adiction like Mcdonalds, its junky gameplay. We play it because the game is designed to give the best loot for these kind of builds, and we want loot in this type of game. But is it good for the game, no. We flash, dash, explode with 1 button, keep the mini map open all time and dont even see the game behind it. ITs a degenerated gameplay. It all resumes to maps per hour and divs per hour. If GGG releases a really interesting mechanic, but it makes you think for 5s during a map, these kind of ppl will complain all day.

Poe1 state is = you have huge complexity on the preparation side (atlas, build, scarabs etc), but when you get to maps, its all just a ''chore'' that we have to do to get the tinks. If ppl could skip maps and go to the tink, they would do it.

This kind of behavior kills the game complexity, diversity and possibilities. The player isnt really having fun or playing a game, it just got baited to addiction.

Gameplay needs to mean something

I have supported GGG by buying gold, I've just never bought packs.

The slowpacers think they are the majority? Go ahead, make an in game poll, I really really want to see the result on this very topic.

No relevant data? We have 0.2 and steam reviews. When 0.2 was launched, the reviews on steam went from positive to mixed. Almost every new feedback was extremely negative. 0.3 redeemed it.

I know that the slowpacers somehow think they are the majority. This needs to be addressed by GGG by an in game poll so that the delusions can be exposed.
