All of the best builds just focus on defense and then get all of their damage by cheesing mechanics. The list of objectively obsolete skills is massive, so if a new player happens to be using one they're going to do no damage, so they will invest in damage, so they will die constantly.
Could you name a few of those obsolete skills?

Yeah fireball, freezing pulse, conversion trap, and wild strike are really killing it. Maybe I'll throw bear trap in there to really ramp up the power.
Watch our for my EK of the Massacre! lol. lmao.
But hey, if all else fails, Ill switch to the unstoppable terror that is raging spirits. I definitely didn't forget that skill even existed.

Chain hook, scorching ray, flameblast, flame surge, firestorm, heavy strike and on and on.
If you don't abuse certain techs most of the gems remain unplayable.
In PoE you never play a Gem, you play a tech. Being it attribute stacker, ES/life stacker, crit stacker, warcry stacker, CoC, CWS.
Gem and damage scaling needs to be revamped tbh.

I think most PoE players have just been playing PoE so long that they can't comprehend that its simply not fun to have to have to have 100% spell suppress, 50k evasion and armor, 6k life, 3k es, a leprechaun's blessing, 6 lucky rabbit feet, immunity to half the games mechanics, the oracles eyes, the one piece, and a map to neverland just to actually play the gd game.
If you just shamelessly copy/paste builds, sure, its great. Goodjob.
If you want to actually use abilities and things youre interested in, homebrew, and play it like a normal game – its objectively trash. Its literally a death simulator.

PoE community is just in profound denial about the baseline experience of the game, and its wild. Nominal gameplay has to be completely without value so that we can have 2 builds that are 2,000,000x stronger than any normal build a typical player would actually create, and its the same 2 builds league after league.
Somehow, this is viewed as good.
You know not of what you speak...at all.
Why the hell do you think we play PoE..it's the game that melts snowflakes. Are you a snowflake?

Sorry, what? Why is Scorching Ray on this list? I literally killed Uber Shaper with this.
As for the rest you named, I don't see them being obsolete, either. Obsolete, as in: Serves no purpose or something better already exists.
Skills that I'd personally consider obsolete (off the top of my head):
* Conversion Trap
* Holy Flame Totem
* Cremation
* Shockwave Totem
* Dominating Blow
* Bear Trap
Remember the Bear Trap Bino's Kitchen Knife meta? I remember.

Really? Tell us you don’t know what you’re talking about without telling us you don’t know what you’re talking about.
Firestorm can be played in so many ways—dirt cheap ignite builds, hit-based, stacking setups, you name it.
Scorching Ray? Perfect for RF builds or any setup that wants that extra exposure and damage, and you can even run it as a standalone totem build or self-cast with cwc setup for clear speed.
As for Heavy Strike and Chain Hook, well they just got new gem versions that can make for some crazy builds. Personally, I can’t wait for them to go core.

Your listed skills are far from obsolete. The only one on your list that really has little to no use is Conversion Trap, but aside from that, Holy Flame Totem is still a solid choice for leveling and has kept its purpose over the years.
Cremation? We see amazing Cremation builds every league, definitely not as obsolete as you think.
Shockwave Totems? Pretty sure we've seen great builds with that skill in recent leagues as well.
And then there's Bear Trap... really? Out of all the options you picked, you chose Bear Trap? It's one of the most essential, non-negotiable support skills for almost every trap and mine build.
I’d argue it’s far beyond obsolete, maybe if you're trying to use it as a single damage source, but if you look at the gem itself, it’s pretty clear it was never designed to be a pure damage ability. I think this one just highlights a bit of a knowledge gap.

Dude, you need to play the game and not voicing your opinion solely on twitch streams. You might have an idea about the game then.
I explicitly said that the skills are crap when you don't abuse certain techs like CoC, CWS etc.
Your firestorm won't ever reach ignite cap like EA, Maw or Burning Arrow of Vigor do. So you must be completely bonkers to play that skill ignite based or have no clue about the game at all.
