Hardly anyone would be buying supporter packs if they were not exclusive. Them being exclusive, makes people want them more, to show other players they have something they will never have. The fact some people are jealous they missed out on some supporter packs, says enough really.

It is also a matter of respect from GGG to their oldest supporters.

Personally, I don't play in public parties, don't play Standard and I only visit towns if I have to. So, I rarely get to see other folks with exclusive MTX. And when I do happen to see one, I ask them about it and then immediately feel disappointed because it's no longer available for purchase. Not out of jealousy, lmao.

In fact, I very much believe GGG shot themselves in the foot with this exclusive BS in the long run. I personally would have re-purchased some of the older packs for this account if I could. (In hindsight, it was stupid of me to use GDPR to have my last one purged, so none of it could be recovered.) Alas, I have barely spent anything on this account by comparison, and I used to buy the very expensive packs, too.

And I'm willing to bet that I'm not alone with this.

It says that you regret not buying them in the past, and because of that you wont make same mistake again and will buy new supporter packs whenever they are available.

While FOMO is a thing, sure, it doesn't get me personally to buy things I don't like "just because". There were times I just couldn't afford some of them. In fact, because of this, I haven't spent any considerable amounts in the last 5 years compared to the 5 years before that. Mind you, I purchased the $1100 Highgate pack in 2015 because I could and I wanted to. That's far more than what I've spent on this entire account so far. Passion's kinda gone.

It's not that I also don't enjoy the new cosmetics, but you're right, most of the time I'm giving a "thank you, please keep the good content coming" buy from a supporter pack.

You are somewhat mistaken. I don't spend money on a game out of kindness/benevolence, I spend money on things I like and when I have fun. I spent money on skins in Rust, too, because I was having fun at the time. I buy MTX for skills when I have fun, as I did with the RAT Nuke character, because I obviously needed that Scourge Arrow MTX for reasons, even though Settlers is definitely not on my list of leagues I liked. Not as a "thank you" to GGG. New content can be fun, but it's definitely not my primary incentive for spending. But, yes, having a good time means I'm far more likely to spend money.

Except you are in minority. Very small minority.

With regards to GGG shooting themselves in the foot with exclusive MTXs, where they really messed up was with special holiday edition items. There were quite a few very nice MTX for Hallowe'en, especially, which could have been nice annual re-releases. Instead, GGG invested the resources to create them (much like the alt-art uniques used as racing prizes) for a very small one-time market.

Since then, more recent holiday-themed MTXs have seen annual re-release, but there were quite a few which are gone forever, more's the pity. ='[.]'=
