The Vision is TRASH.

Indeed, when talking about popular opinion argumentum ad populum is kind of the whole point. Would you prefer a ghost town of a game where there is no one to party with and no one to trade with? or a live and vibrant community with hundreds of thousands of active players?

Argumentum ad populum fits to this case as it doesn't matter what the popular opinion is, it doesn't mean that it is the correct opinion, nor that the devs should take it as a lead for future patches.

Most often than not, as history shows, the popular opinion is the wrong opinion.

Ok so first of all, there is no right or wrong opinions, luckily for you..

Secondly, when talking finance and sustainability in business, numbers matter! specifically player retention in this case. History shows that when daily peak player numbers drop below a certain threshold the servers hosting the game must operate at a loss.

Whilst PoE is a free game(s) it *does* depend on active players to support the company through supporter packs, MTX, stash tabs, etc.

Agumentum ad populum literally means "appeal to the people" and the topic at hand is what the people think about the vision/direction of the game.

So to be clear, your problem here is that appealing to the people to gather their opinions on the direction of the game, is wrong and their opinions don't matter?

No it's about logic. Just because many people might want the game to be a certain way doesn't mean the devs should do it.

One reason why they shouldn't is because most people have no idea how to design games, most of all probably the people you mention, you included. If the devs followed their advice, the game quality might diminish, because of that.

It's like if Beethoven was alive and a large group of people told him to rewrite his music to their liking because he depends on them buying tickets for his concert.

Uhm, no.

IDK what your talking about man. I lived in a house for close to 40 years now so that makes me a complete expert on building a house. I def should be taken serious on how to design, build, and maintain a house because myself and others who have been living in houses know exactly how to do it from our 1,000s of hours of living in houses.

How dare you suggest otherwise.

Back in PoE 1 Chris Wilson was unhappy with the fast and action-packed game that everyone had fallen in love with, it went against his vision for the game, however he was wise enough to know that for the company to succeed he must give the people what they want.

To satisfy both the playerbase and his personal desires he created Ruthless mode, a version of the game that very very few people played.

Now in PoE 2 we see Chris Wilsons wisdom, he foresaw exactly this level of backlash. Daily peak players have dropped from 280k to a mere 50k, take from that what you will.

But to say that people don't know what they enjoy, is incredibly arrogant to say the least.
We aren't talking about music here, Beethoven wasn't out selling records, he didn't have shareholders to answer to, and he certainly didn't need to retain a certain level of active listeners to justify keeping the speakers on!

I feel like your points are mostly just rhethoric.

Yes it is lol Its funny too when he keeps siting the steamchart website as a "gotcha" and doesn't realize he has 0 clue on how to interpret the data he is citing. Hey, at least now he changed it as a gotcha to "take it as you wish" cause multiple people have already called him out on it lol

Not really sure you understand the subject matter nor the words you are using, but hey, all the power to you my friend.
Go log into your perfect game and have fun with it, you're wasting valuable game time here on the forums!
just get a room you two, you both are like "30 people hate the game"

while its just you 2 with a differing opinion farming hate in this thread (probably trolling seeing your not playing) making out with each other as we all vomit on our selfs.

if you want validation go meet in real life. you both really want someone to tell you everything is fine. help each other out. hug each other. do whatever just put up some curtains.

You are talking in extremes. Maybe you are a Sith Lord? As Obi Wan said: "Only the Sith deal in absolutes!"

I think support wants me to use euphemisms now.

I think you might be the most sane person in this.
